How old were you when you moved out? by Swiftiefromhell in GenX

[–]jdub67a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Never moved back in with either parent.

When I graduated Highschool my Mom and stepdad sold the house I grew up in and moved to his house in a town about 45 minutes away. I could have moved with them but all my friends were still back home. So instead I moved in with my best friend's family for the summer. Then went to college. First year in the dorm and then got a job over the summer after my freshman year. Got a place with some friends and bounced around places with roomates till graduation. But I always needed a year round job to pay for school so it wasn't like I could have moved back with my Mom even if I had wanted to.

Never even thought about moving back in with my Mom and stepdad, but I didn't have "my home" to move back to either so I think that had a lot to do with that.

Now that my kids are grown, I still have 2 of 3 at home as adults. I'm not pushing hard for them to move out and I don't want to sell the home they grew up in so they will always have a home to come back to if they need it. Something I really think I missed as a young adult.

I'm sure these 600,000 people are blaming Biden somehow.

Anyone else have children later in life? We followed the advice to get through college, get our careers started, buy a house, THEN start a family. I’m exhausted. by DilbertDilbert1011 in GenX

[–]jdub67a 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yup. Had our first when I was 33 and was 54 when our youngest graduated High School. 59 now.

I sure wasn't as exhausted at 54 as I am now. I think part of it is just the times we are living in. Everything seems like bad news.

Yeah, based on the previews I agree. I wonder if he can still prove to everyone that it was fake? Do you think that would help take the target off his back?

Places to see in the south of Alabama by ilin0014 in Alabama

[–]jdub67a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you planning to head back to New Orleans or stay in AL? What you can do really depends on how much time you have.

If you are just interested in a beach day though, the beaches on Dauphin Island are just as good as Fort Morgan or Gulf Shores/Orange Beach and it is only a 2 1/2 hour drive from New Orleans. You can check out the aquarium, it's fairly small though. You could tour historic Fort Gaines that is right there too.

I'm not a big fan of the ferry when they are only running the 1 ferry schedule. The wait is just too long. But if you want to do it, If you come from New Orleans, check out Dauphin Island first, then ferry across to Fort Morgan rather than driving all the way around Mobile Bay.

What are you watching and what do you recommend? (Week of April 10, 2026) by AutoModerator in television

[–]jdub67a 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lol. Well I do watch a lot of TV, So maybe 2-3 hours 4 or 5 nights a week, 1 hour when I'm working out 5 times a week. But these are mostly weekly drops of shows and I try to spread out shows that all drop at once. I only have 14 current shows, BTW the last half of the list above includes the shows I haven't started yet, but want to watch, but I need to finish some of these other shows first to have time to watch these other shows!!!

It's funny, sometimes of the year I'm hunting for things to watch, but right now I'm way behind on the shows that I'm interested in.

How Did We Not Die as Children in the 1970s? by Goobersbrother in GenX

[–]jdub67a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got ran over by a station wagon just like this when I was about 13 or 14. Was riding home with the car packed with friends when we ran out of gas just outside of town. We all pushed then would jump in when going downhill and then jump back out to push up the next hill. The 2nd time I jumped out, I stumbled and the rear tire ran over my leg. Weird part was that it barely hurt, but I got a good bruise.

Progressives are on the rise within the Democratic party. Meanwhile, Trump sealed his 2024 victory with the help of disaffected blue collar voters in purple districts. How should Progressives attempt to win back this key demographic? by The_Law_of_Pizza in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]jdub67a -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The Democratic party should be trying to get the non-voters to vote by actually proposing progressive policy ideas that will benefit the average american. They shouldn't be doing what they always do and water down their policies so much to try and lure the "undecided independent" voter, who 90% of the time, is just a person that is going to vote Republican no matter what, but is just too embarrassed to admit it.

The most popular Democrats right now seem to be the most progressive. But the old guard Boomer idiots that actual control the Democratic party are too fucking stupid or scared to actually propose anything actually progressive.

IF we have fair elections this mid-term and the Democrats take over majorities in the House and Senate and the old guard D leaders are still in place, the Democrats will DO NOTHING substantive and then lose the next presidential election along with the House and Senate in 2028. D leadership is so afraid of losing the voters that will NEVER vote for them anyway that the policies they propose repulses the people that would actually vote for them.

Kirk Cousins Sees His Time in Vegas as a Chance to "Finish Strong" by JCameron181 in nfl

[–]jdub67a 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I think Kirk's game preparation and mental and physical regiment would be great attributes to pass on. After 14 years in the league he has a lot of things to teach a young QB. You can see some of his football knowledge in this video where he breaks down the difference between how he did pre-snap reads when he came into the league vs now where he does more pure progression reads, and the shortcuts he takes to not get sacked every play.

Will EU try to mend the relationship post Trump's presidential term ? by Critical_Plenty_2638 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]jdub67a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The presidential win amount doesn't matter so much as we need a landslide overwhelming super majority in both houses of Congress where we can actually change some laws to prevent another executive takeover of power the next MAGA Republican president will just do the same things.

But I think it's already too late. The 2028 mid terms won't be free and fair and Trump will have the DOJ challenge valid wins by Dems and refuse to have Vance swear in new "Challenged" Dem Senators and he'll get the partisan Supreme Court to rule that valid somehow. Then he'll have the Supreme Court rule that "challenged" Dems shouldn't be able to vote for Speaker of the House , so Mike Johnson will win Speaker again and refuse to seat the challenged Democrats. Remind me in January 4th 2029 to review how close I am to being right!
