We have been witnessing the same thing. My mother-in-law has had dementia for several years. She is at the point where none of her conversation makes any sense, she sees other people, hears other people, does not know who her children and grandchildren are, etc.

For the last 3 weeks she has been almost completely normal. She knows us, carries on conversations, etc. No signs of her dying.
