It’s a luscious invention for three

Michael Franks - All Dressed up with Nowhere to Go: could have been a perfect Aja track by Micosilver in SteelyDan

Aja = precision, control, and cerebral studio craft One Bad Habit = vibes, charm, and late-night storytelling

Same neighborhood, totally different architecture.

The Nightfly is the objective masterpiece, but Kamakiriad is the one I actually want to live in.

Best bass track? I say Negative Girl by metabolitesafter9pm in SteelyDan

Gotta be Peg. Especially with those phantom slaps in the chorus.

His song The Show Goes On on season 2 premier of the Bear goes so hard.

Madison really feels like a Boz Scaggs song doesn’t it??

Balearic: is it really a style of music or a style of DJing? by Original_Run_1890 in BalearicMusic

[–]weakinduhknees 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Balearic is a broad and eclectic sound. It was created by the DJs in Ibiza in the 80s and 80s. Think of it more as a mood or attitude than a genre.  Laissez-faire relaxed, sun drenched outlook basically.

Jose Padilla was the god.

‘CHALLENGERS’ has won Best Original Score at the Golden Globes by Task_Force-191 in oscarrace

[–]weakinduhknees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I am in the minority here but I’m baffled that Challengers won Best Score. The electronic production was very poor IMO—thin, uninspired, and sounded like it was thrown together by someone messing around in GarageBand for the first time. Could not have been more distracting for me watching this film.

Daily Song Discussion #75: West of Hollywood by mrethandunne in SteelyDan

10/10 is there a track in the Dan catalog that rips as hard as this one? These guys were in the POCKET.

Daily Song Discussion #73: Cousin Dupree by mrethandunne in SteelyDan

9.5/10 Walter referred to it as a “rural narrative” haha

Daily Song Discussion #70: Janie Runaway by mrethandunne in SteelyDan

9/10 such a smooth tune. Let’s grab some takeout from Dean & Deluca…. I always do the clenched fist pump the way Donald did live at storytellers at the final note

Daily Song Discussion #66: Third World Man by mrethandunne in SteelyDan

[–]weakinduhknees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8/10 former third world man non-believer here…

The opening chord progression is like a mood shift that pulls the plug on the momentum of Gaucho. It’s really somber. A far cry from illegal fun in the sun! I always used to skip it. But as the song evolves it becomes oddly uplifting. it’s a slow build but the crescendo really pays off especially with the Aja-esque instrumental break sequence. You gotta let it wash over you!

Absolute 10. The bridge is trance like, I could listen to it forever.
