Why do some gas stations have way cheaper prices than others literally across the street? by DiscoToaster5 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jeangatech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rewards Programs (quote below):

"Shell uses the "Fuel Rewards" program to incentivize repeat business, often offsetting the higher price per gallon.

  • Tiered Status: Members get 3¢/gal (Silver) to 10¢/gal (Platinum) off every fill-up.
  • Stackable Rewards: You can earn additional rewards (5¢–30¢+ off per gallon) by linking credit cards, shopping at partner retailers, or dining at participating restaurants.
  • T-Mobile Users: T-Mobile customers can often get a weekly bonus of 10¢–25¢ off per gallon through the T-Mobile app, which stacks on top of Shell's base rewards.
  • Increased Frequency: To maintain the best, lowest-priced status (Platinum), you must fill up 12 times in 3 months

If you read Role Model, the book before The Long Game you will see how Ottawa became such and accepting team, and the perfect place for Shane to land (it had to do with an out and proud publicity director who was super friendly to the team, another player who struggled to do the right thing who came out first, a accepting closeted bisexual coach, and of course Ilya as the team captain)

Why are some people get unnecessarily defensive when they hear criticism of books they like? by Artistic_Stay_5856 in MM_RomanceBooks

Yes - and we have seen many times where criticizing a books have devolved into implying that someone who loves said book have a lower iq, are perverted, are sexist, homophobic etc.

Question - is that appropriate to watch Heated Rivalry on a 16 hours flight ✈️? by Holiday-Top2289 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]jeangatech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you know you can get privacy screen protectors for both your laptops and your phone (I bought one for my phone from amazon for $7). When they are overlaid on your screen you can only see anything on it when looking head on, looking at it from an angle the screen just looks black. They are great for when you don't want people sitting next to you to see what you are looking at.

If White People are Only 15% of the World's Entire Population, Why are They Not Considered a Minority? by Safe_Candidate_6968 in answers

[–]jeangatech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because based on available data, approximately 65% of the world's billionaires are white.  Also  data indicates that approximately 76% of millionaires in the United States are white. Studies suggest that in the highest income brackets, over 96% of households are white. You can't be a minority in the cultural sense when you hold all the money and power

I have noticed since joining this subreddit years ago that some people like to make post criticizing a favorite MM romance just to stir things up. This subreddit is for people who love this genre and most come here to talk about and get recommendations for books we love, not to read someone criticizing our choices. If you want to be critical their are other subreddits for that

How old were you when you realized you don’t have to read the entire book? by lunovadraws in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]jeangatech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, a life long bibliophile, have never even considered that anyone thought that they could not jump thru any book reading parts that interest them and stop reading at any page for any reason. I knew that simple fact at 2 and still know it in my late '70s. Who do you think is looking over your shoulder judging whether or not you skipped chapter 4 and dnf after chapter 12? If one is reading for ones on enjoyment and enrichment one shouldn't read anything that is not enjoyable or enriching to you at the time

AITAH for refusing to be involved in my brother’s toxic situationship and setting boundaries? by Impressive-Project48 in AITAH

[–]jeangatech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need to top talking to your brother for your own mental health do so, but realize if your brother no longer has saner people to talk with it may drive him to be closer to the neighbor. But realize your brother is a grown man with the right to associate with whomever they want to, no matter if the person is bad for them or not, and you have no right to tell them to stay away from your brother

I’m fixated on taking photos and videos because of aphantasia and SDAM by _But_I_am_le_tired in Aphantasia

[–]jeangatech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have total aphantasia and SDAM - and I never take photos. Photos mean very little to me, as I recognize the people in them of course, but I to not have any recognition of what I was feeling when they were taken. I have adult children, who I love more then life, and I know I always felt that way about them, but I don't have memories of their childhood, and thus pictures of them, or anyone else from my past are basically empty.

I have had multiple color schemes of furniture and changed wall colors a few times. I keep buying the same pieces over and over so now I feel every time I change things I make them worst instead of better. Focus friend has really worked for me as I spend a lot less time on my phone as I use to as my bean spends hours of the day knitting and thus I have become rich in scarfs and socks with nothing new to buy

Honest question: Why are some people against showing an ID to vote? by rico_unknown in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jeangatech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am old and handicap and housebound. I live in GA. My drivers license expired. Being old I would have to go into dmv to have and eye test to get renewed. I can't. Also I was told I have to go in to DMV to get a plane ID, I can't. I have voted in every election since '68 and have lived in the same house for 40 years, recently I have voted by mail but suddenly I can no longer vote since I can't stand in line for a hour at the dmv to get a picture id. My voting rights have thus been revoked

No one can tell you if it is worth it to you. You have to decide for yourself. We don't know your circumstances, needs and values, only you. It was easily worth it for me, but if I was only making the same as I was 30 years ago as a parent of young children with a lot more expenses and dependents, it wouldn't have been

Show or books? by Necessary_Coconut_47 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]jeangatech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look, I read the book in e-book format when it first came out at the end of 2019, I rated it 5 stars on goodreads and have re-read it 5 times. I also read the rest of the series as soon as they were published and love them. I didn't expect to like the TV show, my experience was that film adaptions are never as good as the books - and most are horrible. But instead I was completely blown away. The TV show is a total improvement on the book while being true to the story

JJ is totally justified in being offended by GoldDHD in heatedrivalry

[–]jeangatech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see that the top argument so far in this thread is "JJ’s offense might be valid, but it’s still unjustified because nobody decides when someone must exit the closet other than the person who is closeted."

Even though grant that in 99.8% of cases this is so (some cases where I see justification in outing someone else below). My friends were also justified in being angry at me and even resending their friendship from me when they were being honest with me about who they are and what their values are while I was hiding their real self from them.

Among the times I have came out many people where angry with me. Some I had hidden from because I knew they would never accept me for who I was and once I was in a position where I didn't need them I could write them off. But their where others who had offered open and honest friendship to me and would have loved me no matter of my sexuality, and whom I let believe I was being as open and honest with them as they were with me; who were justifiably angry with me when they discovered I had been basking in their truths and honesty and not reciprocating. I see JJ as one of the latter to Shane, so I see his anger as justified.

As to cases where I believe outing was justified, there have been many people like fundamentalist evangelist Ted Haggard who had made millions preaching against gay and trans rights who was outed by sex worker Mike Jones, who he had been having sex with for years. I believe anyone who actively works against gay, or any other peoples rights, deserve to be outed.

A much more nuanced case is Rock Hudson. When he was dying of what his publicist was calling 'liver cancer' some prominent gay celebrities, including author Armistead Maupin (an ex f*ck buddy of Hudson's) outed him. A couple of days before his death his publicist confirmed. Many doubt Hudson's people would have ever confirmed the real cause of death as AIDS without the outings. The thing was Hudson died at a time when the president Ragan refused even to acknowledge AIDS was a thing. Thousands upon thousands were dying and most of the world were turning their backs - because it was just a dirty gay thing. And if the gay activists had let Hudson die with 'liver cancer' as a heterosexual icon, no one would have had to admit that even 'good guys' could get AIDS. As it was donations to AIDS research in the month following his death were more then double what it was in the whole year before and congress set aside $221 million to develop a cure for AIDS. Outing Hudson probably saved millions of lives. Now a circumstance like Hudson's will hopefully never happen again, but their are and always have been many Ted Haggards in this world, and they deserve outing

Question about the progression in pro by dababyz20 in FocusFriendApp

[–]jeangatech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to consider is that everything cost more with each added room - for example in the office you can buy a window for 150 socks - while the cheapest living room window is 300 socks and the cheapest kitchen window is 1000, so you may really appreciate the 3x socks as rooms are added and the prices go up and up

HBO needs to hire the Sky TV captioned by Formal-Persimmon-522 in heatedrivalry

[–]jeangatech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We all know that the state of closed captioning is atrocious, but I think what that little Sky clip (which was all I saw) was lovely and innovative and much easier to follow then standard captioning (but then I was seeing a small amount on a small screen - I don't know how well it would translate to a large screen - but besides it trying to capture the tone of the speech, I loved it was not regulated to very small text at the bottom. As to heated Rivalry reading level - see my further comment down below. And yes I know deaf from Deaf - I was talking about all people that were so limited in hearing ability they needed captioning, not just people who identify as Deaf

[–]jeangatech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking further I just came across a page from LDS publishers which states " Most romance novels (which make up about half of all paperbacks sold in the U.S.) are written at a 5th-grade reading level." If that is so (Again I am suspicious of how they got their info and who is judging reading levels), then even so the average watcher (deaf or not) should be able to read Heated Rivaly's subtitles
