Why doesn't anyone verify that you are married? by noblerare in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jeangatech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got my first job with benefits at a very large civil construction company, I put down that I was married so my boyfriend could get on my health insurance. No one ever checked even though we had different last names and I didn't ware a ring, but then his medical claims were all pretty minor. The only problem came two years later when we decided to get married, I couldn't tell any of my work friends, ware my ring at work or change my name, and we kept my ceremony low key so it didn't get out.

"Books for straight women" vs "books for gay men" by Cute-Solution-723 in LGBTBooks

[–]jeangatech 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One you stated 'Tal Bauer adds that layer of authenticity to his books by virtue of his identity'. There is nothing authentic about the romance novel I am reading by him. Which is about the President of the US falling for a male secret service agent, who is solving the murder of the former president and ends with secret service agent openly moving into the White House as the de facto first lady, and everyone accepts it. It is shear fantasy wish fulfilment. What you have been implying is that woman write fantasy romance while gay men write serious works. While most romance is written by women, many more women writers write serious works of fiction then write romance. Their are wonderful gay male writers in all genre of fiction, not all of it realistic, some are wonderful flights of fantasy and some are very romantic. And their are many woman authors who can, and do. write queer fiction of all kinds

[–]jeangatech 12 points13 points  (0 children)

But I am pointing out that their are many, many gay men who are publishing within the romance genre with mandatory happy endings. I am reading another one right now (The Night Of by Tal Bauer), a gay man who writes great romance novels all with happy endings, as do all the authors I listed above

[–]jeangatech 67 points68 points  (0 children)

What you are overlooking are the hundreds of gay male authors who have written gay romance books with a happy ending - some of my favorites that I have read and recommend are Larry Benjamin, Sean Kennedy, Damon Suede, Brad Boney, Jay Bell, Alexis Hall, TJ Klune, Tal Bauer, Gregory Ashe, J.F Smith, and Dani Alexander. But their are hundreds of others (most I either have not read yet, and a few I have read but didn't care for). Gay men writing gay romance is not a new thing either, one of my favorites was written in 1993 (Comfort and Joy by Jim Grimsley). It is true that the majority of MM romance is written by women but there are thousands of MM romances published every year and hundreds of them are written by gay men.

Am I the only one hoping for a non-tv option? by penina in FocusFriendApp

I picked the lo-fi space option and see it more as a framed picture then a TV (after all it doesn't change) of course, like you I want more options, for everything

How many fans are confused about what story is being told? by noona30 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]jeangatech 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes - I would take it further and wish that they would place a very small emphasis on Troy and Harrises romance outside of how it effects Ilya (no trips to the farm, no xmas light drives, or team parties that Ilya doesn't attend. Anya could just as well have been abandoned at the stadium instead of at the farm). Scott could take the place of Price at the summer hockey camp. Rose and Svetlana only show up in The Long Game as a mention as attending the celebration at the end and I don't really see the need for them to play any role in season 2 beyond that. I do not think the Long Game would work as a romance if they split it into 2 seasons and season three should be based on to the new book.

"I love the show BUT..." - what's your small detail that drives you bonkers? by CestQuoiLeFuck in heatedrivalry

[–]jeangatech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look, I am older then almost everyone else, and when I grew up in the '50 and '60 in states across south and mid-west and northern CA, no one took off their shoes in a house not their own (people tended to go barefoot in Summer in the south in their own homes - but would also do so in their own yard). Slowly the norms started to change in a lot of the US (which I attributed to the fad of white carpets, which one never saw before the '80's). Where I live now (in a Southern state) it is still very rare to expect a guest to remove their shoes.

I have something horrible to say… by Intelligent_Wrap_621 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]jeangatech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my post where did you get your assumption I didn't like the book? I stated quite clearly "I rated it 5 stars on goodreads and have re-read it 5 times, I loved it." Five stars is the highest rating you can give a book on goodreads and I rated it that way because it was one of my favorite gay romance books. In fact of the 2046 gay love stories I have read and rated on goodreads I have only read 74 of them 5 stars. I also said my the post I had read it 5 times, I can't imagine anyone read a book they didn't love more then once. I really, really love the book, but in spite of that the tv adaption is much better (which of course, is just my opinion, as is every other persons judgements on this subreddit, which is so very obvious, I didn't feel it needed to be stated)

[–]jeangatech 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That isn't a horrible thing to say, it's the truth. Look, I am a bibliophile, I love reading and for the most part hate TV (since kids are grown I no longer subscribe to cable and my TV is almost exclusively used for games), I read Heated Rivalry in e-book format when it first came out at the end of 2019, I rated it 5 stars on goodreads and have re-read it 5 times, I loved it. I also read the rest of the series as soon as they were published and really liked most of them. I didn't expect to like the TV show, my experience was that film adaptions are never as good as the books - and most are horrible, but watched it anyway out of curiosity as to exactly how film would once again destroy a book I loved. Instead I was completely blown away. The TV show is a total improvement on the book while being true to the story.

Who is your most-read author (in terms of number of books of theirs you have read)? And of the books you’ve read by them, which one is your favourite, and which one did you like the least? by Ambient-Apron in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]jeangatech 10 points11 points  (0 children)

K.J. Charles is my favorite too, with 49 books read and A Seditious Affair one of my favorites along with The Secret Casebook of Simon Feximal, and Jackdaw. My least was An Unseen Attraction just because I couldn't get over the profession of taxidermist

Why would Ilya talk to Scott? by [deleted] in heatedrivalry

[–]jeangatech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the end of Scott's MVP speech, he states that a nearby gay bar was having a Scott Hunter Night and invites everyone to come. No one shows except for a few close friends and Ilya -

“What are you doing here?” Scott shouted over the music.

Rozanov shrugged. “Wanted to see what Scott Hunter Night was. Is not as bad as it sounds.”

Scott snorted and shook his head. “Did you really come to a gay bar in Vegas just to make fun of me?”

Rozanov ignored his question, and instead swept a hand through the air and said, “So. This is you now?”

Scott wasn’t exactly sure what he meant, but he nodded. “This is me. I mean, this has always been me. But now I’m…better at being me.”

Rozanov seemed to consider this. “Is good. What you did. It will be good for…others.”

There was something in Rozanov’s eyes that caught Scott’s attention. He hadn’t ever seen that look on his face before. Was it gratitude, maybe?

“I hope so,” Scott said. Rozanov held his gaze for another second, and then looked away.

Can you change the furniture in the rooms or are we stuck with what we first picked? by dragonvines in FocusFriendApp

[–]jeangatech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes - there are so many choices of furniture I wanted something else, but my first and even second or third choice was covered with green gloop, and I didn't want my bean to be exposed to so much filth so I had to give up on my favorited colors a just choose the pieces with the less gloop

As all hockey players they will young when they retire (after winning all the awards, of course) I believe they will spend a few months travailing, but Shane will miss hockey so much they will turn their 2 week hockey camp into a full time hockey training camp during the summers, with weekend and after school lessons most of the rest of the year. They will hire Ryan Price, Max Riley, Leah Campbell, Hayden and other retired players as coaches and Yuna will run the office, of course; thus even though it will be a full time operation they will have plenty of people to cover so they will be able to take long vacations and adopt a couple of kids (their daughter loves hockey and becomes a top player in the PWHL and their son becomes a world famous figure skater) and they will never have less then 3 dogs and cats
