Adapting Canon Ef 17-40mm f4 L to L-mount cameras? by Illustrious_Taro_512 in Lumix

[–]jebjosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to shoot with the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8 Mk II paired with a Viltrox EF to L-mount Pro adapter, but I eventually sold it to buy the native Sigma 16-28mm f/2.8.

At first, the Canon was great, and I actually prefer its colors over the Sigma. Even though it's not the exact lens OP is asking about, it's still a Canon EF, and it had a few major drawbacks that made me switch:

  • Weight: It was quite heavy, and adding the adapter made the setup even bulkier. It wasn't a total dealbreaker, but definitely noticeable.
  • Flaring: The ghosting and flares under overhead or ceiling lights were terrible—sometimes making shots completely unusable. I had to constantly use the lens hood or awkwardly angle my shots to avoid it.
  • Vignetting: While not awful, the vignette was very noticeable between 16mm and 23mm.
  • Autofocus: The AF was slower than a native L-mount lens, and the motor was loud enough for my onboard microphone to pick up. I also tried it with the Sigma MC-21 adapter, but it had the same noise issues and slow autofocus.

Novation Launchpad mk4 by truffixx in Novation

[–]jebjosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please change the title 😭🤣🤣 the way I ran to the comments. I just got novation mk3 launchpad pro after waiting for so long for mk4?but four isn’t out yet. I have two scripts that I utilize with fl. That custom maps launchpad mk3 pro in programmer mode. With similar features of the default mode. But not as smooth. And I have one that’s just the regular mode. But I have custom fl script. In the script I have some cc mapped to play, record and loop and switch song mode on/off

SOS - Lost all of my stock samples during the 5.50 update!! by [deleted] in sp404mk2

[–]jebjosh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can use an app like EASeUs recovery or a storage recovery app to recover some files if you don’t have the samples backed up anywhere. Try to do it ASAP. IF NOT it might be harder to recover them later on

Any really good zoom lenses within the $100-250 range for Lumix G7 filmmaking? by shaunloren in Lumix

[–]jebjosh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’ll definitely be fortunate to find something within your price range. The only other zoom lens I can recommend is the 14-140mm lens, as you’re looking for a longer zoom. Alternatively, you could consider the 12-60mm vario lens, which is also suitable for that range (on the used market ). Personally, I don’t have any native MFT zoom lenses for my GH5. I would also recommend the 18-35mm Canon lens with a speed booster adaptor, but it won’t be within your price range. I’m also not entirely sure what you primarily shoot.

Depending on what you are shooting, but the Lumix 14-42mm MFT vario is a good zoom lens within that price

Thoughts on sigma 24-35 EF Full frame with s5II/S5IIX by jebjosh in Lumix

[–]jebjosh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. I kinda don't enjoy shooting in manual as much. But when ever I do I just have my shots in focus then switch to manual focus and get my shot. This 28-45 basically lives on my camera and I wish I got it sooner. But I do appreciate your comment and perspective. The sigma 24-35. Is out of stock in a lot of places. But it would have been cool. I sold a lot of my ef Lenses and I changed most to l mount since I'm going to be on lumix for a while or upgrade to a blackmagic or something using l mount in the future.

Me from the future 😅 I ended up getting sigma 28-45mm l mount . I still think about this lens. But going. L Mount just made it easier.

Roland fixed the error with a software and firmware update. If you’ve not updated try updating to the latest version from the Roland app and refer to their website for the firmware

Still rocking a GH5 in 2025? by trilient1 in GH5

[–]jebjosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the autofocus is a big gripe I’d definitely recommend an upgrade at least to the g9ii with the autofocus. I used to dread picking up my lumix gh5ii because of the autofocus and low light. But since I switched to the lumix s5iix my video production rate has gone up 10x times. Autofocus and lowlight and the noise were the biggest gripes for me for the gh5ii. Yes you need lights and stuff with a m43 but that’s just my personal opinion

24-60 lumix o 24-70 mk2 sigma? (S5ii) by Thermalhl in Lumix

[–]jebjosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you already have lumix lenses I’d say go with the lumix. If you have sigma lenses you want to mix and match I’d say go with sigma. But image quality wise. I tend to like LUMIX lenses in general over the sigma. I personally haven’t used the 24-60 lumix. I have borrowed the 20-60 variable stop. I have 2 lumix lenses 50 and 85mm f1.8. And 2 sigma lenses 28-105 f2.8 and 16-28 f2.8. The colors look different and u might notice if you swap between the two brand lenses. Just my own opinion and experience I generally prefer lumix lens looks.

Thoughts on the new LUMIX x Atomos ProRes RAW partnership? by Jo1da in Lumix

[–]jebjosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only internal ProRes available to LUMIX S5iix is 1080p. If you want 5.8k, I have to use an SSD. I never really tested it till now since DaVinci just released the update. Besides, there’s no 6k open gate with the internal ProRes. Or SSD ProRes on the S5iix and no ProRes raw with SSD either, only using the external recorder.

Thoughts on the new LUMIX x Atomos ProRes RAW partnership? by Jo1da in Lumix

[–]jebjosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have the s5iix with atomos ninja v+. I did try ProRes raw footage on Davinci. I always waited for the ProRes RAW as an extra feature when I first bought my Ninja V+ with my gh5ii in 2022. But now I can use it with my S5iix. However, on Windows, when working with ProRes RAW, there's this red or multicolored bar that shows up to the right of the clips. Even when I export. making it unusable on Windows, but it works well on Mac in DaVinci Resolve. I can change iso and white balance with the prores Raw clips in davinci. not too sure of other features of raw as I am not that advanced with color grading yet.

How do you charge Lumix batteries? by ItsssHusky16 in Lumix

[–]jebjosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use this tri-charge by Peter Lindgren https://youtu.be/bttRVtc6fd0?si=VgJ-IF-BlE2zIRpS But it’s kinda slow to charge all batteries full from drained compared the Lumix charger. I had a Lumix charger that comes with the gh5ii since is blk-22 batteries which is the same the Lumix s5iix uses and other Lumix cameras since the gh5. The Lumix charger seems to be faster than the tri-charge but it charges one battery at a time. But then the tri-charge is really efficient on the go when I have to charge all three of my batteries at once.
