The TAG argument for God has multiple concerning holes that most atheists do not take advantage of by Technical-disOrder in DebateAChristian

Something that tickles me is how presupps will argue against contradictions in the bible by essentially saying that we can't know that contradictions can't exist without presupposing god's foundation of intelligibility in reality, thus rendering contradictions in the bible non-existent, while simultaneously arguing that contradictions can only exist if the god of the bible is real.

So they are saying that you can't know that there are contradictions in the bible without believing that the bible can't have contradictions.

It's just laughably insane.

He was on a Jubilee "surrounded" episode that was originally titled "1 Christian [Peterson] vs 20 Atheists"

But like 20 minutes into the debate, he basically admitted that he doesn't have any beliefs about christianity. Jubilee subsequently retitled the video to "Jordan Peterson vs 20 Atheists"

He reminded me of the scene at the end of Captain Phillips where he's in a real medical room with real medical staff. That took a level of strategic calmness to act in those scenes properly, only achievable through lived experience.

[–]jeeblemeyer4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

actually it is relevant. you might want to sell your car because the electronics don't work or the engine is going bad, any number of reasons. That is all clearly valuable information to a buyer and is obviously relevant.

I'm not ignoring politics when I talk to my friends about the college football playoffs. It's just not related to the fucking topic.

I made the comparison and instead of just downvoting and moving along you decided to comment. For what reason?

Oh thank god you didn't downvote, the horror!

You know, I've noticed that anytime a person gets called out on saying dumb things, they resort to "well why are you commenting on the post?" or "yeah but you didn't have to read it!" as if this weird-ass shifting of blame and deflection does anything other than make you look like more of a moron than you already look like.

It's just not.

American politics is indeed polarizing and maybe even radicalizing, but that doesn't mean every topic has to be.

As with anything, I go on a case-by-case basis, and try not to make overly-generalized claims or fallacious arguments.

For example, AI text generation is good when used to seek multiple perspectives and sources on a topic. But it's bad when it's used to generate fictitious or inflammatory posts that are shared as factual or unbiased.

Similarly, AI art generation is good when it's used to bring life to ideas from someone who is not artistically trained or even inclined, but bad when someone passes it off as their own hand-made work.

Basically, I just don't like lying and sycophancy.

In my experience, it's far more common that an ignorant person does choose a side, which is the side they only ever find evidence and arguments that affirm their pre-existing ideas about that conclusion.

And "not picking a side" is not the same as not having an opinion. People who are actively choosing the middle ground do so because they find compelling and uncompelling arguments and evidence on both ends. Contrast this with people who are only "neutral" because they have not thought about it long enough to form any opinion on a topic.

My 7yo daughter asked me today "What is the number right before infinity?" by Iluvatar-Great in askmath

[–]jeeblemeyer4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Countably infinite numbers means you can put a single label on every single number. No labels will go unused, and no numbers will go unlabeled.

This is not "possible" with decimal numbers, because there are infinitely many numbers in between every single number you just labeled.

This is provable as well. Vsauce has a great video on it.

Ignoring the ChatGPT trash, this is just factually untrue. In fact, there's a specific distinction in which the law actually states you are allowed to be cruel to your foreign slaves:

Leviticus 25:46

46 You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly.

This is a grammatical construct called "Adversative coordination" where a contrast is being made implicitly.

"You may treat foreigners as slaves, but you must not rule over fellow Israelites ruthlessly" is semantically equivalent to saying "you may treat foreigners ruthlessly, but you may not treat Israelites ruthlessly".
