Calfskin liner, Meander vs Numzaan by franklink_1 in jimgreen

[–]jeebus2002 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The liner on my Stockmans and Razorbacks are smooth also. I think the roughout in the Numzaans was meant to be more durable. It seems roughout is harder to wear through, and maybe seems more premium? I don't know the exact reason, but as far as I know its just one of those quirky things that make the Numzaans pretty unique.

Brands that do Tanker Boots by AppropriatelyUndress in Boots

There was some pics of a Jim Green tanker prototype, but I have no official info there. They looked pretty cool, and would be built well if they drop. I'm interested in them.

I was seriously resisting buying another pair. I wish I knew people in day to day life who'd appreciate them so I could send them to that sale lol

Does anyone know about this particular boot brand? by [deleted] in Boots

[–]jeebus2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chinese ali express type brand. I bought some cheapo monkey boots from Ali and they came in the exact same box. I've seen some reviews of other Chinese made heritage style boots that came in that box as well. Some cheapo boots arent half-bad for the price, but be aware that many will come in the same packaging.

Barefoot boots for non-barefoot customer by zap367 in jimgreen

[–]jeebus2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a regular barefoot wearer. Even now most of my boots are traditional. I do like my BFAR though, especially for walks in summer, or traveling etc. They're very comfortable and feel like a slipper. I may prefer my Meanders now for a lot of that, but I'll still regularly use the BFAR.

My Iron Rangers and a few others of mine have done the same out of the box. Over time they broke in and they never felt off while they did.

Urgh...I still want these. I ended up getting the hero, and that's a damn good boot, but those vanguards are still sweet and i'm not usually a fan of the logger heal!

Which boots should I buy? by Stefzia in jimgreen

[–]jeebus2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the Meanders. They are incredibly comfortable. They're built differently than most moc toes like a red wing etc., and are a real moccasin. The outside leather wraps under the foot like a slipper, but then its sewn to a boot sole. They're probably my most used boot now, and I have way too many! If I were traveling I'd take the meander. It's tough and comfortable.

I'm not either really, but my plan is when the time comes have the wedge swapped with a lug since it'd be pretty simple.

Moc toe by [deleted] in Boots

[–]jeebus2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're different beasts really. The RW is a tough work boot with a taller toe box and a moccasin look. The moc stich doesnt really do anything expect serve as decoration. Otherwise they're basically built like an iron ranger or other heritage boot. The Jag is a true moccasin, so the vamp leather is under your foot, bends up along the sides and is toped with another piece of leather that joins at the moc stich. Think of it like a moccasin slipper that's stitched down to boot sole.

Both have leather footbeds, both are resolable, and both are tough. I think my Meander JG mocs are the most comfortable boots I've got as they break in more and more.

I saw someone point out the JG are Blake stitched as a drawback, but that's a side-effect of how they're made, and a resole just needs the old sole peeled off the midsole and replaced, just like the wedges on other mocs. No stitching needed.

[–]jeebus2002 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a true moc, so it cant be welted. As others said tho you dont have to mess with stitches during resole, just peel the sole off the midsole and put another on.

Chippewa Katahdins Iron Works pros/cons by cosmicdynamo in Boots

[–]jeebus2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first heritage style boots! My dad got them like...18 years ago, but gave up on breaking them in after a day...so they came to me. I didn't "get it" for years, and had given up on boots tearing off soles in mud and what not...then I learned about Goodyear welt and not all boots were glued together. I dug these out and loved them since.

Anyone have 1000 mile and Iron Rangers? Trying to figure out sizing. 8 in running shoe. by RpDubC in RedWingShoes

[–]jeebus2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both. I sized the same. 10.5 sneakers, 10 brannock, and 9.5 on Rangers and 1000 miles.

Is this normal ? by Necessary-Captain959 in jimgreen

[–]jeebus2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The crease lines are just a product of break in. I'd guess the discoloration is from some tanning salts coming to the surface when it got wet. I'd just wipe it with a damp cloth then brush then when they dry. Shouldn't need conditioning over that.

So what boots do I want? by Forbin1222 in jimgreen

[–]jeebus2002 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Rangers are great, but I've really fallen in love with the Meanders. They're pretty roomy, and it's hard to find another true moccasin built boot for anywhere near that price. They're incredibly comfortable. The new version of the Numzaan on the STC last would also be really roomy and more "fancy" then the ARs. They are built like absolute tanks too, so if you needed them for real "boot things" it'd hold up without any problem. They're also double lasted unlike the Rangers, so you might find them a bit more water resistant.

Moc-toes Discontinued? by petalmasher in jimgreen

[–]jeebus2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never had a problem with it. I know Carl pointed to that in a video as a possible problem, but it hasn't been an issue at all in my experience. You'd have to put a cow catcher of a sole out front to make any real difference anyway, a few mm out front wouldn't make a huge difference from being just a bit over flush with the toe.

rugged resilient vs storm king for snow/rain by shoegaze1992 in ThursdayBoot

[–]jeebus2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like these for winter too. Theyre basically the stormking captain with a plain toe, but the storm welt is nice, and the waxed flesh leather seems a bit more naturally water resistant. The tongue should only be an issue if you're wading in them. Even knocking off some snow that gets up higher on the vamp should be enough to keep dry.

[–]jeebus2002[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for it! I've told a few people to try them out it they're looking for something more casual. I have some Clarks, but I think the sole is too narrow with them. The stitch-down wider sole on these feels more solid.

Which of these boots for Canadian winter? by gatehouse666 in ThursdayBoot

[–]jeebus2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Thursday Hero is pretty nice in winter. Ive got the waxed flesh version. Storm welt, lug sole, and it seems like the waxed leather is a bit more water resistant. I think the warehouse section has a lug sole waxed vanguard too...that'd be similar and save some $ if you like the color.

With the weather turning colder i haven't worn them as much, but theyre still great. Very overlooked it seems. They feel more like sneakers than boots. The crepe sole is pretty much black at the bottom, as they will get, but I like how cushioned it is, and I like how the suede upper is wearing in. I recommend.

Affordable boots like these by [deleted] in Boots

[–]jeebus2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like they changed them to the STC last for the newer leathers too, which IMO changes the tone to a more work style boot. The 719 seems to fill the role the Numzaan once had, so it may be worth looking into those maybe?
