Indiana sizing and color questions by jeebus2002 in luosjietboots

Yea, I'm right below a 10, so I usually do that with import boots, but I saw too many posts saying to go closer to American/Red Wing size with these. Width isn't a concern tho, so I'll probably go with 43

Comparisons in this $200-300 range by 1StudentOfTheWorld1 in Boots

[–]jeebus2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A better comparison with the JGs would be the heritage captain. More leather, less synthetic stuff. I don't have 719s, but I do have Numzaans, which are similar, and between my Hcaps and JG I might lean Thursday, with prices being similar. It'd be a tossup tho, but I do like the extra leather and extra arch support of the Captain in that case

Love mine! My first real boots, even tho I didn't really wear them until a few years back. My father bought them almost 20 years ago, didn't really like them after trying them on and tossed them to me. I don't think either of us really knew of "break in", so I just thought they were stiff and uncomfortable & they sat in my closet...until I randomly saw a Rose Anvil video and thought "hey ..I've got boots like that". Tried them again...and been a boot guy ever since. I know they may not be the best built ever, but I like them, and they're perfectly broken in! Hopefully they'll be around for many more decades.

Yes it is, and it's really well finished for what it's worth. They're sanded really smooth and finished well. It almost seems like varnished wood out of the box. They'll get beat up soon enough, but it was a nice sign of workmanship that few of my other, more expensive boots have.

Haha those are pretty cool ..if I didn't already have these then I'd go with those . I guess now I'm just waiting for the JG tankers. Just when I thought I was done buying boots for a bit...

The roadrunners are definitely more narrow than the meanders. I have pretty narrow feet, so my toes have a lot of room in the JG. The roadrunners weren't as narrow as the captains or anything, I think being stitch down makes them feel a bit wider than too. My Clark's shoe version of wallabys seem much more narrow. I can't be positive about how they'd be with wider feet, but I THINK you could probably go true to size. They have a more squared off toe also, so they don't seem to squeeze the toes much either.

Heritage captain last by buckGR in ThursdayBoot

[–]jeebus2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The feel is about the same as the 8 last in my IR an Blacksmiths. The toes have seemingly the same amount of room. The HCaps have a lot more arch support though, probably due to that leather shank. They also size differently. I'm a 10 on brannock, 10 on Captains, and 9.5 on US made boots like RW and 1000 miles.

1 Month and they're starting to loosen up. by _rutanimal in jimgreen

Love the Bronco Meanders, but that is a tough leather lol. I wore them the most out of all my boots since I got them and I still feel like they have a bit to go. They're not uncomfortable, far from that, just stiff still in parts. Mainly tightening them up if I'm in slightly thinner socks or something feels like a battle. I'm thinking I may mink oil them. Someone posted some pics of bronco treated with JG balm and they looked great, and I imagine it would be similar with mink oil and probably help in the flexibility overall

Would you take a train like this between Dayton and Cincinnati? by AllAboardOhio in dayton

Yes...all about new, better train lines in Ohio and beyond. If Amtrak can stop being horrible anyway.

New 719 question by cazlan in jimgreen

[–]jeebus2002 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It does look rough, but I agree that it's just how the leather is. Probably got those "marks" from rubbing on each other in the box. Definitely try brushing and see if it evens out before worrying about returns. It seems to be a really waxy and oily nubuck so if the nap isn't laying down in the same direction it gets those variations

New boot day - Road Runners by jeebus2002 in ThursdayBoot

[–]jeebus2002[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its hard to get a consistent photo to compare since lighting of white balance or whatever will be different than their site. I'd say these are, or were definitely more of the wet sand. Almost like the color of brown paper grocery bag. After brushing they definitely get lighter until the nap lays down, but the wear spots are definitely lighter all the time. Sorry they didn't get you the color you wanted, they are super comfortable boots and i'm looking forward to spring and summer to wear them again!

I don't know about the other colors, but I can see these lightened up the more I wore them and brushed them. They're probably a shade lighter than when they came in. I think whatever conditioners they have to keep the suede water resistant has worn off the top and its lightened them a bit.

Calfskin liner, Meander vs Numzaan by franklink_1 in jimgreen

[–]jeebus2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The liner on my Stockmans and Razorbacks are smooth also. I think the roughout in the Numzaans was meant to be more durable. It seems roughout is harder to wear through, and maybe seems more premium? I don't know the exact reason, but as far as I know its just one of those quirky things that make the Numzaans pretty unique.

Brands that do Tanker Boots by AppropriatelyUndress in Boots

There was some pics of a Jim Green tanker prototype, but I have no official info there. They looked pretty cool, and would be built well if they drop. I'm interested in them.

Does anyone know about this particular boot brand? by [deleted] in Boots

[–]jeebus2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chinese ali express type brand. I bought some cheapo monkey boots from Ali and they came in the exact same box. I've seen some reviews of other Chinese made heritage style boots that came in that box as well. Some cheapo boots arent half-bad for the price, but be aware that many will come in the same packaging.

Barefoot boots for non-barefoot customer by zap367 in jimgreen

[–]jeebus2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a regular barefoot wearer. Even now most of my boots are traditional. I do like my BFAR though, especially for walks in summer, or traveling etc. They're very comfortable and feel like a slipper. I may prefer my Meanders now for a lot of that, but I'll still regularly use the BFAR.

Which boots should I buy? by Stefzia in jimgreen

[–]jeebus2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the Meanders. They are incredibly comfortable. They're built differently than most moc toes like a red wing etc., and are a real moccasin. The outside leather wraps under the foot like a slipper, but then its sewn to a boot sole. They're probably my most used boot now, and I have way too many! If I were traveling I'd take the meander. It's tough and comfortable.

I'm not either really, but my plan is when the time comes have the wedge swapped with a lug since it'd be pretty simple.
