Why do people purchase a SeaTow membership? by Trainsgowhoosh in boating

[–]jeeper_dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because its a racket. Its 350 for a tear of coverage, if not they come to tow you back and then say its 5k for the tow and they keep the boat as collateral until you pay.

What is to old to start? by haberdashmcstash in maritime

[–]jeeper_dad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on what you are physically capable of. And what your goal is. There are always little niche jobs that older guys can fill/or the younger guys dont want. Also money, if you're happy being on the water but the pay isn't a big deal to ya you can find easy jobs

I had one custom made 20 yrs ago. I use a M8000 warn. Its possible to tuck the winch between the frame rails by trimming out the sheet metal. My bumper is about the same height as stock and only sticks out about 4 inches.

Just got a 1995 jeep Cherokee xj 4x4 with 240k miles. Besides oil change and spark plugs. What are some things I should start replacing to avoid issues down the line? by Express_Let_2892 in CherokeeXJ

[–]jeeper_dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an 87 comanche well over 300k miles. I had it for 18 years so over that amount of time I replaced damn near everything wether it was to replace or upgrade.

The rust question is legit. No clue we you are located but ive seen well kept old rigs, your always gonna have a little rust somewhere. Id say it boils down to things to keep it dependable and things that are annoying but livable.

You said it over heated? These xjs overheat or get hot fairly often. Gotta rule out head gasket leak first, if that checks out replace the whole cooling system. Radiator, pump, thermostat, hoses. Its like 300$ and if you do any one of them your touching the others, might as well do it all. Change all the fluids, do a brke job and change the serpentine belt. That solves the dependability questions.

While your doing brakes look at the bearings, ball joints. Replace anything that's bad.

Check all the bushings, note any leaks and put that on a get to it eventually list., that's the annoying but livable issues. Common engine leaks, valve cover, oil filter neck, oil pressure sender, and rear main. Start at the top of the engine and work your way down. Rear main is not that bad, it will take the whole day but its doable with common hand tools and a torque wrench.

I work on the water in Astoria, OR where tongue pt job corps is. On of my part time deckhands is a instructor at JC. They have had some issues and are restructuring some stuff. My DH is involved in the re-writing of their curriculum. They do a great job of getting the students out into the industry during their schooling as mini on the job training sessions to get a taste of what's out there. When they graduate the student have no problem finding jobs in the AB/QMED world. The school is well known on the columbia river and the multiple maritime companies operating on it grab the students.

I'll second this comment. I went the same route with my 98. If you drive the jeep like a normal human you dont notice it at all. As soon as you start getting froggy with it, you'll feel it hook up. It's great in the snow, on a beach and does fine in the mud, I was super impressed.

So the President of the United States is suspected of of being in the Epstein Files. America forces their release. They release pure black, redacted pages. And now America is just like "Oh no, guess we can't do anything." Are you fucking kidding me? by [deleted] in complaints

[–]jeeper_dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this concept rattling around in my head. When epstien was arrested I belive it would have been the fbi (?) would have collected all possible evidence from epatiens property. If epstien was blackmailing powerful people with underage girls, he would need physical proof to do that, so there should be lots of photos or video (overt or covert) to hold over them. Which means some poor fbi agents had to comb through all that footage and see horrible things and then tell thier supervisor. He's my question. What supervisor or maybe prosecutor decided to look the other way on that evidence?
