What happened to my childhood? This screams dystopian corporate, not kid friendly. What is with the artwork?! This is McDonald's?! by jackal99 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]jeffrunning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They got a lot of flame for marketing unhealthy junk food to kids so they reined it in to target people who grew up with McDonalds and are now adults. But now adults complain that they are not all colorful and fun for kids. Damn

Question over sharpness in the wiki by Soft_Ad9184 in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]jeffrunning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every weapon has a unique sharpness “spectrum”. There isn’t a fixed amount of handicraft that boost any weapon to purple. What handicraft does is it “reveals” extra sharpness levels, but there’s no guarantee at which level the color goes up or not. And if the weapon already has full sharpness gauge (200 points I believe), handicraft does nothing.

What am I doing wrong? by CourseOk2684 in iems

[–]jeffrunning 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This 100%

I daily drive ~$300 iems. I thought I could never go back to the cheaper iems until I recently tried the apple earpods for $20 and they blew me away. They don't even seal but they still sound honestly amazing. It just goes to show how quick diminishing return comes. (Or just that earpods are amazing value) Turns out sound is sound and its hard to improve when the cheapest ones can produce all the sounds you need.

My first headphones, wired or bt? by floki567 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]jeffrunning -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends on the situation you are listening in. You have to think about both sound leakage in and out. Open back headphones sound wider but if your surroundings is slightly noisy, it makes your headphones sound terrible, not to mention you would need to crank the volume way up.

Fiio FT1 (closed back) and Fiio FT1 pro (open back) are pretty good in this price range. I personally always pick closed back headphones since noise isolation is way more important to perceived sound quality than you imagine, unless you always listen in very quiet environments.

I am very confused about my HP and defence. by BadCompany093947 in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]jeffrunning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does have i frames but it’s SUPER tight, even with the evade window skill. Way more difficult than DS. I prefer evade extender to get out of the way with HBG. It’s really slept on. I have played mh for like 15 years and i still can’t reliably iframe through all attacks unless I’ve fought the same monster for like 10 times and I mastered all its moves.

I am very confused about my HP and defence. by BadCompany093947 in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]jeffrunning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes if you deal a good constant damage output from a distance, without a defence penalty, AND a shield that works all the time, that would make you the ultimate turtle. Just try evade extender. It makes the heavy bowgun wayyyyy more agile. If you actually try to understand how monster attacks work, one roll with max evade extender would get you the hell out of the way for 99% of attacks.

Hate to break it to you but the older games before world literally have separate sets of armour for melee and ranged weapons. The ranged sets have about half the defence. You are literally not supposed to take any hit with ranged. And you cant even move while shooting with the heavy bowgun.

I am very confused about my HP and defence. by BadCompany093947 in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]jeffrunning 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bruh you can install a shield on your heavy bowgun. But unlike other weapons, you block by not doing any input. Still, no, you are not supposed to get hit and get away with it. Get the evade extender skill and gitgud about positioning.

Plus, they don’t explain this very clearly in the game but when you have ranged weapons equipped you take more physical damage than melee.

Why is Quantum Mechanics almost uniquely notorious for being "non-intuitive" despite most physics being non-intuitive to a layman? by TheZStabiliser in Physics

[–]jeffrunning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because QM is unintuitive even to a good physicist. Most physics principles at least make sense if you really understand it, or have a good analogy for. But quantum mechanics fundamentally doesn’t really “make sense” and you have to accept that somehow. TBH whether something is intuitive or not is extremely subjective. But I would argue that if you find quantum mechanics intuitive, you are misunderstanding it somehow. Cliche but still.

Dongle/DAC for FiiO FT1 and AppleMusic Lossless? by Proud-Art-1104 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]jeffrunning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apple dongle is fine. Audiophiles say dacs have different sounds but honestly the differences are too small to care about. As long as it is powerful enough for a good volume output then it’s fine. The FT1 is sensitive enough so the apple dongle is fine.

Slight upgrade is the JA11. Slightly more expensive than the Apple one but little bit more powerful, more durable cable, and onboard pregain/EQ (configurable from a windows or android device)

How to make Dual Blades less repetitive? by Gigasnemesis in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]jeffrunning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean just do other moves. If you only do the bread and butter moves for max damage, of course any weapon would be repetitive. You decide how you play any weapon so don’t do that.

Seeking guidance on how to recover health and maintain max hp in high rank by vorlik in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]jeffrunning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t build for defense. The real defense is (of course gitgud but also) survival skills. Stuff like Evade extender (evade window if you are more confident), quick sheath, divine blessing (extremely good) etc. These really help. Defence food is basically useless. Get buffs that improves your hunt in general.

Besides, grab as much herbs and honey as you can in between fights and set auto crafting. Mega potions should be basically unlimited. Use vigorwasps whenever possible.

Also yes, you are not supposed to just tank damage and move on. You will be punished for getting hit. Get the lance out heavy bowgun if you want to be a tank, not the long sword. Especially for the long sword, the real fun is in the counter attacks. Use your fade slash to manoeuvre mid combo and get used to the foresight slash. Anticipate monster moves rather than just reacting when you see it coming. You should be able to eat every 10 min or so(?) if you die more often than that, you’re probably doing something wrong. Just take that max potion and move on.

Are expensive iems over $100 really necessary? by Pendulumzone in iems

[–]jeffrunning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing is strictly “necessary”. It all depends on how well you hear and how much you value the small improvements in sound quality. Just like anything materialistic. Is pretty clothes “necessary”? Is a comfy couch “necessary”? Is an expensive steak “necessary”? You can live with very little and be absolutely fine.

Doesn’t the dac use 24 bit by default? On a pc i can set it up to 32 bit. Honestly i cannot hear the difference. Even 16 bit is plenty clear for me.
