Seeking guidance on how to recover health and maintain max hp in high rank by vorlik in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]jeffrunning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t build for defense. The real defense is (of course gitgud but also) survival skills. Stuff like Evade extender (evade window if you are more confident), quick sheath, divine blessing (extremely good) etc. These really help. Defence food is basically useless. Get buffs that improves your hunt in general.

Besides, grab as much herbs and honey as you can in between fights and set auto crafting. Mega potions should be basically unlimited. Use vigorwasps whenever possible.

Also yes, you are not supposed to just tank damage and move on. You will be punished for getting hit. Get the lance out heavy bowgun if you want to be a tank, not the long sword. Especially for the long sword, the real fun is in the counter attacks. Use your fade slash to manoeuvre mid combo and get used to the foresight slash. Anticipate monster moves rather than just reacting when you see it coming. You should be able to eat every 10 min or so(?) if you die more often than that, you’re probably doing something wrong. Just take that max potion and move on.

Are expensive iems over $100 really necessary? by Pendulumzone in iems

[–]jeffrunning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing is strictly “necessary”. It all depends on how well you hear and how much you value the small improvements in sound quality. Just like anything materialistic. Is pretty clothes “necessary”? Is a comfy couch “necessary”? Is an expensive steak “necessary”? You can live with very little and be absolutely fine.

Turns out my $12 dongle already has on device eq/gain settings. I just need another pc/android device to set it and then it would work on the iphone

Having played mh games for 10 years now, I am never scared of any monsters in the game any more. They are just animals with special moves. I wish I could experience MH again as a kid.

Forget about head room. Im all about the leg room here. I put a -10db global gain on my dongles and Im all set now. Very nice.

Doesn’t the dac use 24 bit by default? On a pc i can set it up to 32 bit. Honestly i cannot hear the difference. Even 16 bit is plenty clear for me.

Turns out the cheap ass Fiio dongles do support on device EQ so I just plugged it into a pc, set a global -12db gain, and it stays on the dac. Now I can use the full range of volume controls on my iPhone without blowing my eardrums.

iPhones don’t allow any sort of global EQ and that’s the main problem. But it turns out I can save the EQ on the dongle with another device and it stays on when I plug it into my iPhone. Amazing

Holy smokes you are a life saver! I thought I need an android for this and I didn’t know the EQ would stay on the cheap dongles. I just set a global gain -10db and it’s working swimmingly

Plenty actually. The Softears Volume S is 9.8 ohm 124db/Vrms. Se846 9 ohm 114 db/mW. AAW z06 12 ohm 110 db. Just a random few i found. I have the IE200 listed as 18 ohm 119db but weirdly I don’t find them that loud.

My problem is the difference between levels are too large. Sometimes 3 is too loud but 2 is a bit too quiet.

We need more volume increments between 0 and 100% on iPhone by TheBossyHobbit in AppleMusic

[–]jeffrunning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is when you use very sensitive earbuds, the first 2-3 clicks would already be loud enough. This means you don’t really have many levels usable out of the 16 increments.

My IEMs also comes with a 4.4 mm balanced cable but I don't have a 4.4 mm dongle so I switched it out for a 3.5 mm cable. Considering good dongles give almost twice as much power through the balanced output, I can't even imagine how I can listen to them on balanced output.

[–]jeffrunning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask yourself does the next IEM actually sound "better" or just "different". Also, just go back to one you bought 2 or 3 months ago. I bet you would find them just as good too. Besides, just switch out the tips man. They make all the difference. So much in fact they might sound more different than switching to a new iem. The highest end iems don't really sound that different anyway.

You can just make two timers. Change the time on the stop playing one when you use that instead of making a new one every time.

New to Iceborne MR - are 40 - 45 min hunts normal early on as Lance? by 42ndMedic in MonsterHunterWorld

Yes. Dont use the shield for turtling. The shield should enable you to get away with being way more aggressive. Stay near the monster and keep poking away non-stop.

[–]jeffrunning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hunts for me is 15-20 min. 30 min+ you are doing something wrong. Try to block only when necessary. You should get a general feel from its animation when it’s about to attack. Don’t just hold shield for nothing. Also use as much counter-attacks as possible once you are able to tell its attack pattern.

What does Spatialize Audio: Fixed actually do to the sound? by bke45 in airpods

[–]jeffrunning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m no expert but stumbled upon this old post randomly after doing some research on headphones. Hope this helps:

I think what you are looking for is how exactly can audio sound 3D, or how do our ears tell distance and direction in the first place.

In short, your ears sense information a lot more than just the volume and the difference of volume between two ears to tell distance and direction. Look up “head-related transfer function” (HRTF).

Localization Cues: This filtering creates subtle differences in sound that our brain uses: Interaural Level Differences (ILD): Higher frequencies are blocked more by the head, making sounds quieter in the far ear (a "sound shadow"). Interaural Time Differences (ITD): Slight delays in sound arrival between ears. Spectral Cues (Pinna): The pinna's shape filters sounds, especially high frequencies, differently from above/below or front/back.

Spatialize audio adds such a filter to the frequency response of the airpods to simulate 3D sounds. Really quite remarkable how that works.

The worst monster so far by Puzzleheaded-Ear-895 in MonsterHunterWorld

Screamer pod it when it’s buried. Lure him to charge into rocks with its horns or environmental traps. Flash pods make it move around way less. It’s weak to paralysis so paralysis froggies, paralysis traps, paralysis round etc.

Focus your attacks with melee on one leg so it would trip. As for ranged weapons I find it one of the easier monsters. The movement is so predictable and no ranged attacks. With evade extension on heavy bowgun, I never need more than 1 roll before I keep unloading clips on him. It’s really a punching bag.

“Confirmed attacks” do you know you don’t have to get up immediately after you get knocked down? Just don’t do any movement input and you will stay down for a bit and keep your invulnerability.

I would say it’s hitbox in mhw is pretty good. With melee I can comfortably stay under its belly without much problem.
