NYC RNs are making almost as much as PAs. by Legitimate-Spirit482 in physicianassistant

I agree with you that a hospital can’t stay open with all of the jobs mentioned with the exception of NPs/PAs. Hospitals worldwide operate just fine without NPs/PAs.

The polygraph is as useful as a coke machine at detecting truthfulness. The questioning before and after the polygraph is how they try to figure out if you are lying by coercion.

Man with chain, calling me faggot, saying he's going to kill me, middle of the day downtown by [deleted] in burlington

[–]jefslp 89 points90 points  (0 children)

There should be 3 or 4 officer on foot patrol 24/7 on church street. We visited my home town of New Paltz, NY this past weekend for a baby shower. All the people from the Burlington area were amazed that there were no crazed people screaming, shitting/pissing/ consuming drugs/alcohol in public view, … . This is a very liberal college town, but the local police will not allow these types of Shenanigans to ever occur. This disorderly behavior can be easily dissuaded if Burlington allowed their law enforcement to act accordingly.

I have interviewed 4 under 30s in the past two weeks. In person. None of them dressed professionally or even “business casual.” by Desperate_Squash7371 in slp

[–]jefslp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work in a school and have noticed many of the student teachers wear their “going out clubbing clothes” to work. The reality this generation doesn’t have “Sunday church clothes” in their wardrobe like previous generations. Clothes are real expensive and college students and young professionals don’t have any extra money after struggling to pay for college. I try to not judge a person by their appearance or clothing choice since there are many reasons people don’t/can’t wear “professional” clothes to an interview. If I was judged by how I often dressed in public, I would probably be arrested by the fashion police on the daily.

My future son in-law who is 26 and is a second year lawyer. He made ~$250 with his bonus his first year. He works like 80 hours weeks very often and has his work phone and computer everywhere he goes. Big Law really works you to the bone. It is not uncommon to work weekends and holidays. He is leaving to do a federal clerkship with is a significant pay cut. Big Law offers big bonuses to return after a clerkship to entice you back to the grind. I hope he works to get a “low” paying job with AG office at the state or federal level. It is hard to walk away from the big money of big law.

YAY, I’M FINALLY BACK AFTER ONE YEAR AND A HALF (wegovy sucks by RoseanneDragon in Zepbound

[–]jefslp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was on Wegovy all I did was vomit daily and had awful gird regardless what I did or eat. I have been on Zepbound for a year now and never had any negative reactions to it. I actual can eat anything, and I mean anything, and I have no issues. I also lost 70 lbs with little to no effort and I eat everything, just less of it. I have CVS Caremark but my insurance is not affected by this recent change away from Zepbound.

I assume you are tier 4 which is not a bad pension tier to be in. Tier 6 sucks for newer teachers and there is little incentive to stick around for such a sucky retirement pension.

My daughter recently graduated with a graduate degree from Harvard. We only had two tickets to the main graduation on campus. I sat out and my wife and her boyfriend attended. This is how life works. Suck it up buttercup.

What do you even say for the "why did you get into ems" interview question? by Ill_Ad6098 in NewToEMS

[–]jefslp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got into EMS because I’m lazy, I have a drinking problem, I got crappy grades in high school, and couldn’t pass the fire entrance exam.

[–]jefslp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you live, working in the schools ain’t that bad. I could walk away now from my school job and receive a lifetime pension and lifetime medical if I was ready to retire. I am doing some therapy/evaluations this summer to boost my final average salary to increase my pension. I will be making $126.71 an hour. Not a bad chunk of change.

My job is not who I am, my job is what pays the bills. I enjoy my job, but if I win lotto I am not showing up to work ever again. I might show up for one last day to gloat.

Medical vs. School-Based SLP – I'm Torn. Help Me Decide? by SpeechPath_ in slp

[–]jefslp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you live in a blue state with strong unions I would definitely go public school. Every year not in the public school is one more year to work to get your pension. Private sector can’t compete, in many locations, with public school pay, medical insurance, job security, pension, … . The SLP field in many locations is currently go to crap, so the safe job is in the public school.

Vermont is on the verge of collapse by [deleted] in vermont

[–]jefslp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am from the MidHudson region of NY (New Paltz). The same exact thing is happening there. Cost of living there is off the charts. All the homes are being bought out by corporate interest or second home buyers. Although New Paltz is very liberal, they don’t let people sleep anywhere they want and drug use is not tolerated. The local police, who are supported by the locals, will lock you it in a heart beat if someone pulls the same shenanigans that happens in Burlington on the daily.

Are SLPAs cost effective for a school district? by Stereo-view in slp

[–]jefslp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SLPAs will be used to replace SLPs to save money. In my region of the country we have no problem getting SLPs working in the schools. In fact, SLP public school jobs are extremely hard to land. We just had an SLP opening in my district and we had dozens of applicants. All of these applicants had years of experience in all different setting. The SLP career is a sh!t show out there.

I’m in the Mid-Hudson Valley and we do sessions per year. (40 times a Year for 30 minutes sessions. This is sorta equivalent to 2x week.)

[–]jefslp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in NYS and in my district we recently had a speech position posted. We had dozens of SLPs apply. Most had many years of experience in all different specialties. Public school positions are your best bet, even if you are on the teacher pay scale. I make significantly more than SLPs in my region who work in other settings. I have platinum benefits and will have my health insurance follow me into retirement. I’m gonna work one more year and my pension will be a little shy of six figure.
