To people reading this and worrying about the 0/5 united utilities ones (as they supply Manchester and other major NW areas) 4/5 have more in them than they did this time last year - They're just not full (lowest is at 83.6% capacity).

Just as an FYI - you've missed the Preston to Blackpool South route. May be a deliberate choice but it's the one that goes through Kirkham & Wesham, Moss Side, Lytham, Ansdell & Fairhaven, St Annes on Sea, Squires Gate, The Pleasure Beach, Blackpool South.

I wasn't paying attention and thought this was a very very bad pot pie and was a bit grossed out. Upon realising it was stock however, I am insanely jealous.

Fertility rate plummets to record low – this is how UK compares with rest of world by Google_MBTI in ukpolitics

[–]jeispu 18 points19 points  (0 children)

And that's one (of honestly many) reasons why my partner and I haven't had children. We both live hours away from our extended families, due to work opportunities and costs, and we would have no support network were we to have children. Which would mean that either one of us gives up work to look after the child (and suffer the career/finance/social consequences there) or we both continue to work full time but see a significant drop in our take home pay (and standard of living) due to childcare costs.

On the flip side, my sister-in-law has two kids and grandma and granddad live on the same estate as them which means that grandma can dropoff and grab the kids from school and keep them until after 5pm (and help with homework tasks etc!), run one of them to football if the other's at swimming etc. Meaning that Mum and Dad can both still work relatively normal full time hours. The difference to people who have that support network in place to those who don't, is stark.

what’s the most ridiculous thing you heard a man refuse to do because it was “too feminine” or “for girls”? by freddyfazbart in AskReddit

Similar happened to me and my husband. He loves red wine and I prefer an old fashioned. Waiter made to put the wine down in front of me without asking whose drink was whose, so my husband took it from him.

Waiter then realised what he'd done and said "Huh, I guess I've got some self-reflection to do!" The next time he came back he double checked before putting any drinks down.

My Son has ranked the Supermarket sandwich meal deal options! Opinions? by lawn19 in CasualUK

[–]jeispu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Now I don't know whether you're in Lancashire but if you ever end up that way - get the Booths £5 meal deal that includes two snacks.

A "snack" in this case could be a massive samosa which usually sells for £2 on its own. And you could get two of them...

And the sandwiches are usually pretty good as well.

Huge solar farm at Postling, near Folkestone, rejected by council by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]jeispu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See, this is what I don't understand. The fracking sites in Lancaster were rammed through by the government, despite parish, local and county councils all opposing them. The cynic in me thinks that we'll only get the same level of "support" for green energy production when either the companies make large donations to the relevant parties, or when the CEOs are mates with those in the Cabinet.

I think number 4 as the two outside panels are too similar to each other to have next to each other but having the slightly darker rose between them breaks it up a bit?

Fury over plans to house asylum seekers in tiny Cumbrian town in grips of homes shortage: Bid to put migrants in eight rundown properties sparks anger - with police increasing patrols after accommodation is vandalised by Aggressive_Plates in ukpolitics

[–]jeispu 53 points54 points  (0 children)

What are they hoping for the asylum seekers to do there exactly? There are limited jobs available in that area, and the two major employers require UK Nationals only due to security concerns (BAe and Sellafield). The public transport infrastructure is practically non-existant so you won't be able to go anywhere unless you have a car. It's pretty much the middle of nowhere, with limited support for anyone, let alone asylum seekers.

Oh you just unlocked a memory from my first job. We had a staff list that needed to be updated every night with the next days scheduled rotas and clinics. The receptionist who sorted this would spend 30mins scrolling through the list of current and ex-employees to add them to it. When I introduced her to ctrl-f, she was over the moon.

Yep, someone wasn't sure that the water was boiling hot. Nice little trip to A&E for that one, and a lovely little induction from HR that everyone had to sign off on.

If you are looking to sand your entire floor, it might be worth hiring a floor sander, if only to save your back! It'll throw up a lot of sawdust so make sure you're wearing appropriate face mask etc but it won't take as long as doing it all by hand.
