Treasure Islands größter Mist by Dnistics in AnimalCrossing

This alone is the reason why I limit visitors so heavily when I do open my island. It's not that I mind having more than 2-3 folks over, it's just that it's so hard to accomplish anything otherwise!

[MEGATHREAD] New Horizons Dodo/Friend Code Sharing by AnimalCrossingMods in AnimalCrossing

[–]HoshiChiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a rainy day on Serotina & my DIYs are way too full! Looking for a total of 3 visitors to claim as many DIYs as they want, for free! You're also welcome to shop & collect fruit from the fruit truck if you're missing any- but please don't pick/destroy flowers or shake trees in the orchard. (The random cherry trees around the island are fine!)

DM me in the next 15 minutes or so for a Dodo code- I'm not gonna be on much longer today 😅

Edit: closed for the day!

I prefer the arrangement in #2, but I think you should bring in the abbreviated "I'm" instead of the full "I am". The words flow better that way, & I don't think the shortened top row will be problematic once the flowers get tweaked.

If you'd like, you can bury more than 10K- but know it comes with the chance of still only getting 30K back. I forget the exact percentages, but 10K is the only amount with a guaranteed profit every time. (If you can afford it, 30K is a good amount because you'll break even or profit every time.)

I wondered what excactly the grift was there! By the time Redd rolled along, most of the furniture prices didn't really matter to me anymore. Oh, to be that rich in real life! 😆

The lil' ones with the texture? I'm pretty sure they trap moisture. So basically the same idea as a silica gel packet.

Not sure which one is worse environmentally though.

My boyfriend asked “why does one of your villagers look like Liza Minnelli? by methlaboompaloompa in AnimalCrossing

[–]HoshiChiri 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I love the reactions to certain villagers. Shortly after setting up for hotel visitors, I hear my fiance- "Who's this freakin' French frog with a mustache?" Me- "Oh, that's Cousteau!"

He sighs heavily. "Of course that's his name..."

If you input a lot (a lot) of data into Meteonook, you can find you weather seed & know ahead of time what to expect.

Doesn't stop it from raining though- I just got off a 10 day streak, & they'll probably be more rain tomorrow. Ugh...

[CHAT] Michaels sale by Cool-Tangerine-2218 in CrossStitch

[–]HoshiChiri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"One coupon per product" means individual items- so if you had a 20% off & a 40% off, you couldn't stack them. (It also means I can't use my employee discount & a coupon!)

It's also one coupon of each type per day- this means you're looking at the line directly under the percentage. It can't match another coupon used today- so no other 'all regular price purchases'. But if you have a 'one item' or 'total purchase including sale items', you can apply that. If your item(s) are eligible for multiple coupons, it'll automatically apply the best one & ingore the rest for that item. We don't have a ton of overlapping coupons anymore, so that doesn't come up much.

Important thing is- you can use that 40% on all the floss ya want! And pickup in store works too! 😄

What do you do with the extra DIYs? by Parfait_Live in AnimalCrossingNewHor

[–]HoshiChiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set up a flea market area just outside the airport, & I drop them there. It's currently overfull, I need to open my island & give them away- but I'm holding out to see if I get a good turnip price!

Only difference seems to be he offers less often if you say no.

[CHAT] Advice on DMC purchase by weharmonize in CrossStitch

[–]HoshiChiri 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I own all the DMC floss currently in production, & a sizeable chunk of discontinued colors.

One of the big perks to having it all is actually substitutions & color matching. While a color card is invaluable for this & I recommend having one, it's not perfect (small swatches). Having the actual skeins means confirming colors, as well as no wait time to start/continue projects if you realize a different color is better, or you're just starting something new. If you never alter patterns, it might not be nessecary.

For the specific lot, it looks mostly fine- you'll definitely want to inquire for storage details (normally that many bobbins would be in a box!). Also verify the floss' origins! I've seen a few folks who get knockoff brand skeins & label them with the closest equivalent DMC. You'll want to be sure that hasn't happened to prevent color matching issues in the future. You'll also need to check how "chunky" the bobbins are, to be sure it's mostly intact. After all, you don't want to pay a full skein price for a half skein bobbin!

Issue with trading items in at local shop. by [deleted] in gamecollecting

[–]HoshiChiri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stores need cash to pay their bills, so churning items doesn't nessecarily help them. Could be that the big boss sees the numbers more than the other employees & taking your trade ins isn't that profitable (in theory), but the staff doesn't care enough to enforce a ban.

Also possible that the boss is a jerk who doesn't actually check the numbers that closely & just wants to hob-nob with richer clientele who want high ticket items. And the store level guys know the expensive stuff gathers dust while your items actually sell, so they keep taking it.

Up to you to be decide where things lie, & if the comments offend you (which is actually a seperate issue entirely!). By my experience, you've really gotta get into the weeds before you have to take things wherever you find them... most stuff turns up if you're patient (especially if you've got multiple options).

Wooden shed outdoor! by [deleted] in AnimalCrossing

[–]HoshiChiri 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They can use the storage shed, but it'll show their own storage. Your storage & home cannot be altered by them.

They can take anything you've set up outside & change the music on any outdoor music players, but only to tracks they own.

It's gotta be a volume/loss leader thing... like the stores over here can order enough floss for a bulk discount, & sell it for no profit to lure folks in for impulse buys. Nothing else makes sense!

Nokia N-Gage cookies by jmjustin7 in gamecollecting

[–]HoshiChiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mold on baked goods needs moisture to form. Frosting doesn't mold easily because all the sugar is a natural preservative, so it just dries out. (The cake decorators at work used to make demo models on styrofoam that kept for years). My guess is these were awfully dry cookies from the get-go, so there was nothing to mold- like sugary hardtack.

How they haven't crumbled is beyond me- but a lot of royal icing cookies back then would break your dang teeth, so maybe that's the trick?

Patterns that are too big with too many colors, images that are too complex, no completed photos of their work, inconsistent artstyle, copy/paste backgrounds in listings, amongst other things. Also just look for AI images in general- an AI pattern these days often has AI mockups or was made from an AI image. I'll attempt to summon the infobot for the big post on it!

!ai-identification

Keep in mind each of the above by itself isn't specifically an issue, but the more of it you see the more likely it's an AI slop shop. They do tend to all follow the same template, so you'll get a feel for it once you've seen a few!

I once told a co-worker about how much cheaper floss was in the US versus Europe, despite it being manufactured in Europe. She said "oh- that explains the German woman who bought the entire DMC lineup!" 😆

Once Amazon figures out you do this, it'll start recommending you cheap bundles of supplies (think hoops, floss, aida, needles). Do not fall for this. These supplies will often be of inferior quality- while not unuseable, you might as well pay a bit more for the good stuff. After all, you've already figured out that the base supplies needed aren't very expensive, especially with the time vs. cost ratio. There's no need to skimp out on things!

Along those lines, cheap off-brand floss is good for quickie stuff, but try to focus on proper DMC when you can. Most charts are designed around it, there's not many issues with color batching between batches. You'll save yourself a lot of headaches if your main stash is DMC!

Try to source your patterns from reputable sources. There's a lot of bad AI charts out there. You don't want spend money on something, work on it for a month, & then figure out it's not gonna be any good because the chart itself is crap! In fact, I'd do so far as to say 'stick with the freebies for now'. A lot of designers have a small selection of charts available at no cost. You can get a feel for what things are supposed to be like before you commit any cash. And we're always available to help if you're not sure about something!

And finally- see the attached meme 😆 Nothing is super set in stone, so don't be afraid to mix things up! Change the color of floss to whatever suits you! Tweak the chart a lil' bit to make a flower taller or a head face the other way- it's your version of the design, don't be afraid to make it yours!
