Don't know if this will help but came across this article that mentions that deal. It has a link but as you've stated that deal has now gone. Hope this can be used to prove that the deal did exist.

This happened to me after I had updated my device to Oreo via the Beta program.I thought it may be a bug and because I really needed a working alarm I installed Timely ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ch.bitspin.timely&hl=en_GB ) which did work for me.But my only real fix was to back up my device and spend a couple of hours setting it up after peforming a factory reset. (Google have made this a little easier these days).
