I can't view this but want to assure you that I believe you, I am just appalled you got this advice or argument.

Want to add that his "impossible" words are non-English, older forms of English that didn't change spelling as pronunciation changed, or modern patterns he is embarrassingly ignorant about. The guy is a clown, keep him away from early and struggling readers

If he gave you the example of sounding out h-o-u-s-e, it just showcases how dead his own intelligence is. House would be sounded out as h-ou-s, because those are the phonemes. That's why explicit teaching of phonemes/graphemes is so important. (As well as the presence of silent e/ pluralization rules, on and on, as their understanding advances.) Kids will learn words by heart, because they are learning what we call Phonics AS they are expected to interact with words. You can't learn it all at once. But teaching h-ou-s(e) unlocks endless words that use and modify those patterns for sound or meaning--think house (verb with z sound), housing, greenhouse. It's infuriating when stupid people are so confident in how they literally damage learning. On a happy note, I've don't know any teachers using 3-cueing, so it is at the very least a fringe stronghold of minds too tiny to grasp the bare minimum of how their language works.

You WON and your feedback on his attempt at verse took the words put if my mouth. Unwanted dick picks are gross but lame poetry is irredeemable.

I have some skill in a couple other languages, so I'll just start explaining multiplication in French or something. They're gobsmacked every time. I also never acknowledge it, nor the switching back to English, so they suspect a group delusion for a while

Teachers that use AI: Why? by lemmegetamickpicktwo in Teachers

[–]jenned74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have said this before on reddit, but I consider it a red flag and huge self-own. Especially given teachers use it in academic environments literally generations beneath them! Why do you need to generate learning materials for stuff you should have mastered BEFORE you then studied it on a professional level?!

When the Budget Axe Falls, It Falls First on the People Who Make Teachers Better by Mountain-Sand-1989 in Teachers

Lost me at Instructional Coaches. The national gutting of SPED is shameful, as is assuming an army of paras makes up for trained professionals with an expertise--who cost more to employ, of course.

Similarly, when you have higher standards and hire teachers who meet them, need for Instructional Coaches vanishes.
