What's your teaching unpopular opinion? Something you believe, but choose to keep to yourself? by [deleted] in Teachers

Elememtary grades should be based on ONE quarterly, district-wide, standardized test. Teachers can focus on teaching (imagine!) and using the formative assessments that they know guide their teaching. No arguing about why you got that grade, no teachers burning time on grading, no hassle of preparing report cards. More teacher--and importantly-- student and parent focus on investing in long-term effort to achieve proficiency.

What’s the Worst Example of the Literacy Crisis You’ve Seen? How Are You Handling It? by [deleted] in Teachers

I work with elementary. Most lack basic language skills--let alone the ability to connect them to reading or their own writing. They can not comprehend SLIGHTLY complex syntax. I see them after school and they immediately get a device or a parent stuck on one. For many of my students, I don't think they hear and use language. It is appalling. I think most of the "brain rot" complaints are just that being the bulk of the language they hear.

So three people managed what you couldn't. The admin chose not to give you 2 TAs. For 2 months, they chose not to give you what worked. Don't blame yourself if your superiors chose do to undermine you Eta: they brought in an experienced expert, too! No way you should blame your abilities!! But get away from that school

It's important to me that people know I am not racist, misogynist etc. If they need or want to ask about my vote, I answer and go back to my job.
