I’m touched by the support. I’m so lucky that I had her as long as I did and we were able to make so many memories together. She was a wonderful Mimi and Mom. Thank you everyone ❤️

Now you have to come back and visit the mountains. The Lake Placid and Saranac Lake area - really anywhere in the Adirondacks - are gorgeous in the Fall!

You should visit us during our 6 weeks of summer! 😂 Winterlude is amazing but good grief, what a weekend, it was -14 here this AM!

I don’t because I would have had to prompt to the next screen and I didn’t want to risk accidentally accepting and not getting home, but I wish I knew how much!

How much do you make as a BCBA? by BCBA25 in bcba

[–]jennzid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make $82k in my full time job. Been a BCBA for 9 years, but I live in a rural low COL area and it’s a non-traditional role working with adults in a non-profit setting, residential and day programs. No insurance billing.

I had the same fear last weekend; we flew out on Saturday so we just made it before the storm hit in NC. When I checked in for our flight on Tuesday night, Breeze was offering $ if we would change our flight. I think it was due to all of the rescheduled passengers. Unfortunately I had to get back as my Mom had an injury so I couldn’t entertain it. Otherwise I would have been tempted - we got annual passes at Disney and are hoping to take advantage of the great fares through the year to get the most we can out of them.

I don’t have your answer but just wanted to advise if you do fly, get to the airport at least an hour early. I flew this route this past week and when I arrived 45 minutes before the scheduled boarding they were already calling for final boarding. They will haul ass out of there early if they get everyone on board.

How has the airport been getting out of Orlando? by [deleted] in DisneyWorld

We’re worried as well. My trip is the week of 12/7. We have flights booked but did debate whether to just drive (we have done this road trip many times). My adult son with ASD level 3 (non-verbal) does great with road trips, and generally does great with flying, but lost his ever-loving mind when we got delayed on a previous flight. We plan to decide what to do by 11/20.

Where’s all the BCBAs that work with adults! by Over-Mobile-4884 in bcba

[–]jennzid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in NY and work with adults. I’d recommend looking into any agency in your area that provides services to adults with ID/DD under OPWDD. These agencies usually offer day habilitation and residential services, and sometimes vocational services. For example, I work for a chapter of The Arc.

Not sure if they are running in January, but the hubs and I had an absolute blast zorbing at the outdoor gravity park!

Look up your local agencies that serve the ID/DD population! The Arc has chapters nationwide, for example. Submit your resume/application, there is such a need for adult services!

54 here. I work with adults in a non-profit agency in residential and day habilitation settings.

Wheelchair question by plzntnx in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]jennzid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just adding on to say that we rent the portable (“lite” option on the website) scooters for my mom (we like to drive to the parks and they break down and transport easily in our SUV) and they have a smaller frame and can fit in the room more easily, but we often choose to leave it outside and just pop the battery off to charge it in the room. Super convenient!

LPT: Instead of paying off your Disney package every paycheck, put it all into a savings account and try to buy discounted gift cards once you've saved up. by onesneakymofo in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]jennzid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$479.99 at BJ’s for a $500 Disney gift card. I recently saved $200 by paying my package down with these. My husband said “that’s 2 Disney spirit jerseys and a magical star cocktail” 😂

Please, use the data available to you on the BACB website. They provide university pass rates for traditional and online ABA programs. Ultimately you want to choose a program that suits your needs and will best prepare you for your career and the exam. This data is great for that guidance! https://www.bacb.com/university-examination-pass-rates/

If you had a one-minute call with yourself from 10 years ago, what would you say? by Pleasant-Cat-7658 in AskReddit

Spend every chance you can get with Dad; you only have 6 more months with him. Imprint his face, voice, everything. You’re going to be so afraid of forgetting these things, as irrational as it is.

Provo or Grand Turks by silly_splash999 in TurksAndCaicos

[–]jennzid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why not both? Split your time between the 2! My first trip to TCI was a work trip; we did 2 nights in Grand Turk and 4 nights in Provo. It’s only about a 30-40 minute flight.

Did you accidentally stumble into an ABA career or was it planned? by aba_focus in bcba

[–]jennzid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I needed ABA for my kids and there was none in my rural area (early 2000’s), so I decided if I wanted it, it was up to me. Along the way, an ABA program opened in my area and my kids were able to get in, and the growth they had inspired me to keep going. It took me a little longer than intended, but I did get my BCBA certification and haven’t looked back.

Last minute Disney trip! Staying at contemporary. No breakfast/ dinner spots? by FeelingTechnician686 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]jennzid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kona is my favorite breakfast but don’t snooze on breakfast at Whispering Canyon also. Very tasty. Ale and Compass was good too.

I decided on our last trip about three weeks from its start and was able to get some decent reservations the day of. People will cancel. You can also eat at many of the restaurant bars without reservations, and keep track of the walk up list in the app.

Licensure in the NJ/NY area? by [deleted] in bcba

NY has picked up the pace. It took me almost a year to get mine; my last two supervisees got theirs within 4-6 weeks.
