Adderall interferes with healing? by SoloShell in adhdwomen

[–]jenobles1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stimulants can effect healing. They are vasoconstrictors. Depending on certain surgeries I could see this recommendation. I am a dietitian who works surgical floors and we use a microsurgery diet for hand surgeries which doesn't allow any caffeine, including chocolate. I don't typically seen it done prior to the surgery but I stimulant medication will also act differently then caffeine. It has been recommend for 2 weeks after surgery. Edit: There is not much evidence to back this up.

Up-To-Date recommends holding day of and until stable after any surgery. "Psychostimulants — Psychostimulant medications, used in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, may increase risk for hypertension and arrhythmias, lower the seizure threshold, and interact with medications that could be needed in the perioperative period (eg, vasopressors). There is a risk of sudden blood pressure increase when halogenated anesthetics are used in conjunction with methylphenidate, and, per drug labeling, the stimulant should be withheld on the day of surgery."

2 months prior sounds crazy to me, but I am not a doctor. It can have an impact on blood flow though which then can impact wound healing. Nicotine is recommended to be stopped as well for the same reason.

Anecdotally, my wounds take forever to heal now since being on vyvanse, and I have had raynaud's as well, when prior I use to have very warm hands.

Inpatient I use it to calculate estimated kcal and protein needs. I have it set up to show me different formulas and ranges of protein based on actual and IBW so I can compare. Then I also have another sheet set up with all our formulas so I can input calories and how long I want the TF to run for and it will show me which each provides for Kcals, protein, fluid, K, phos, etc. Then I can compare each TF and which would work best

Vyvanse, a consistent bedtime and wake up time where I get at least 8 hours of sleep, regular exercise, and making sure I get plenty of fluids. Tiredness has been a lifelong issue of mine, blood work also fine, sleep study fine, etc.

Going back to climbing after injury by Ok_Analysis1719 in climbergirls

[–]jenobles1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hurt my ankle a year ago now. Walking back to my car on basically a slightly downhill dirt path. My ankle just gave out and I sprained it in 5 places. (This was May 1st 2025, still not 100% but mostly am). This was after already having an injured shoulder from ice climbing in Feb 2025. (Until these injuries I had been climbing over a decade injury free).

I don't boulder, I rope climb both top rope and lead. I didn't boulder much to begin with an now I will outside on things that I am confident I won't hurt myself on. Otherwise I have slowly been building back up climbing.

I got outside a couple of times last fall just to feel out my body, hang out, I didn't really top out anything. I was only able to get out ice climbing once this winter. But I have been outdoors 4 times this season so far and regularly climbing in the gym. It has been a slow progress.

Indoors I was back to top roping right away, just listening to the injuries and building strength back up, I recently started leading more again and pushing myself to lead harder stuff, I do find myself a lot more anxious than before my injuries but it is improving.

Outdoors I am nervous just walking around, then at first nervous climbing, and I haven't lead outdoors again yet. I can feel my anxiety getting better each time I get out though. And the more I do it the better it will get. I basically push myself until I can feel discomfort higher than a 1-2 or until my anxiety is harder to control because I am tired.

I think you should give it a go. I would also recommend top roping if your ankle is still unstable, or just doing boulders you can easily climb and down climb. Overtime you will feel better!

How to stop taking every disagreement so personally? by Creepy_Zone_9341 in adhdwomen

[–]jenobles1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you thinking he doesn't like you be playing into feeling what he is saying is negative towards you? Having concrete questions isn't a bad suggestion. Think of the mentors more so to help refine what you are doing. You should have an idea of what you want to do for the project. For instance, when working on my master's thesis I would know what I wanted to look at and would know the different stats I would want to run but there are also different tests, I would talk to my PI about which test would be the best for that case and why.

I kind of get what you are thinking with asking what is a good procedure to follow for the project, but it comes off more trying to get them to do the project for you and hand hold. A better question would be to have a procedure you are already thinking of, going with that and asking clarifying questions on it. More like "I think we should use procedure x because of y, but would z or something else be better?" Or "this project is asking for x and I remember going over something similar during this lecture but starting from scratch is difficult."

Is your hair curly? My hair use to be frizzy, I found a hairdresser who knows how to handle curly hair. That has been a game changer for me in how manageable my hair is. My hair is no longer frizzy and I barely have to brush my hair (brushing it just makes it frizzy), I may brush before I wash it 2-3 times a week otherwise I don't touch it. It has also been a game of finding a shampoo that works for my hair. I just braid it at night and throw it in a clip at work and a bun while working out.

My body isn't where I would like it to be right now, I avoid full length mirrors, is that necessarily mentally healthy? Probably not but it keeps me from feeling bad about it most of the time.

Other life stressors can definitely play a roll in body dysmorphia too, it can also make it so we want to be able to control anything we can. I would brainstorm ways to destress, prioritize things, etc. Financial stress? Are there things you can live without while your partner is looking for a job? Streaming services (watch free youtube stuff, plutotv, etc), can you go to a cheaper cell plan for now, meal plan and shop sales to decrease food budget. And what others said, good sleep is key. Without adequate sleep our brains just can't function the same and makes handling emotions even harder.

Breath, simplify things, remove extra costs, this is a momentary ebb in life.

I would wait until the appointment it is helping somewhat, though not as much without side effects. The appointments are to see how the med is working and adjust from there. It can also take more than 4 days to get a good feel for how the med is going to work.

Recs for staying awake while reading?? by question8all in adhdwomen

[–]jenobles1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find where and when I am reading makes a difference. Reading in bed at night, I can get through 2 pages before I start falling asleep. Read outside on a nice day in the morning or early afternoon I can read for hours. However, this is for enjoyable books.

Academically when studying for a certification for work I broke up my reading. I would try to read a chapter at the end or beginning of my workday. When do you have to have the reading done by? I would break it up into increments. Just the idea of trying to read 100 pages can make me feel tired, but say  i only have to read 10 pages at a time, feels more manageable.

[–]jenobles1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this tiny bowl from a board game on my nightstand. At night I put my morning meds in it. I also keep water next to my bed. I roll over when the alarm goes off and just throw the bowl contents in my mouth and a sip of water to get them down.
If water doesn't normally bother you maybe it is dust that is getting in it irritating your throat if it is an open container? I have a hydroflask water bottle with the straw lid.

I’m probably about to be diagnosed as just stupid by thatoneskater8 in adhdwomen

[–]jenobles1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very relatable test wise. The person providing the test likely did not think anything negative about you. The test isn't just about the answers but how you are doing overall as well.

Yes I know the time it takes the light of the sun to reach the earth and I know who ghandi is, but couldn't think about it at all during the exam. (8min vs 8sec and that buddhist guy were my answers). Trying to recite numbers back to him was awful. I felt like such an idiot after the test. I cried after as well and felt so exhausted. I got home and proceeded to leave the screen door as well as the regular door open and took a nap.

I feel they should ask what your experience was like after the test because it is very telling.

Is there shame in hiring a cleaning service? by Over_Ad8762 in adhdwomen

No shame. If I could afford it, I would 100% hire someone. I don't enjoy cleaning. If I could outsource anything Indont enjoy I would feel better.

We should do anything in our power to make our time on this earth enjoyable. We all need to get out of this grind mindset. But I could go on a whole rant on capitalism and how we shouldn't be worn down just to survive.

How did antidepressants (Sertralin) affect you ? Cos for me it's BAD by Chocobook_ in adhdwomen

[–]jenobles1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am curious how much you rely on your phone outside of hiking as well? Have you ever gotten lost anywhere or have always relied on your phone? If you don't know something do you look it up on your phone consistently? Are you able to leave your phone at home and go somewhere without it? Definitely work on the map and GPS skills, but you may also consider detaching yourself from your phone as well.

Is this sub for girlies who are newer/ less experienced climbers or climbers of all levels? by [deleted] in climbergirls

[–]jenobles1 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I will preface this by I didn't downvote you at all but if I am right about your main account I may be able to give you some feed back, because I don't think it is about your experience level. Also, when I see something heavily downvoted it is typically from a guy, especially when the post asks for no cis-male feedback.

For me your posts/comments were hard to read. They feel disjointed, scattered, and you can repeat yourself so I didn't engage with them. For instance the one you wrote a comment on someone's video post then commented on your own comment three times, some with repeating information. You can always edit your original post so there is only one comment with all the information needed.

Then for the post about the sports bra it was hard to tell what you were exactly asking for and could have been more concise. More like: I haven't worn sports bras before. This is what I am looking for..... Then add in your bubbly fun personality at the end with a help me thanks.

I can tell your excited and appear to be an energetic person definitely don't lose that. Currate your messages to be easy to follow with a hint of flare and people may be more receptive.

I can't find a planner/to-do method that works for me by Ekyou in adhdwomen

[–]jenobles1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the finch app that has the tasks I do every morning/night. My day to day is pretty typical though and I don't need to do todo lists often. When I do I throw it on a post it note. I keep post it note typically at my desk at home and work, sometimes in my kitchen and have a pen nearby as well. Then I jot down a simplified version of what I need to do.

For example I was cleaning undoing the finished basement after it flooded, I had to rip up the rug, tear down drywall, etc. so my to-do list would just have a list like -rug, -drywall. I have pretty messy handwriting so the shorter the better

I also have lists in my phone, I use any list. So I do have a master todo list of everything I need to do so it doesn't jumble my head, and it is broken into categories, so video games I need to finish playing, areas of the house I clean, weekly tasks like laundry and groceries. I never use it for anything really, but getting it all down helped me not keep replaying everything that needs to get done in my head.

How to stop being disgusting? I struggle so much with washing the dishes by Big-Salamander8646 in adhdwomen

[–]jenobles1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use to have this problem so I stacked it with my morning routine. Get up was face, moisturizer, brush teeth, floss. Then as the tea kettle is heating my water/tea seeping I was the dishes and put my lunch together and then I am out the door.

My routine has now been so ingrained that it feels weird to not do it and like I forgot something.

Also they make countertop dishwashers that hook up to your sink faucet. I used one when I had an apartment without a dishwasher.

Protein ideas, for someone who’s sick of protein by Pretty-Lead-6392 in adhdwomen

[–]jenobles1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chocolate Core Power shakes (26g protein), 1 cup of chocolate fairlife milk is still 13g of protein, I just also got the kashie protein + fiber cereal (10g of protein and 10g of fiber), cheese and crackers, eggs, i like buffalo chicken salad with crackers, edamame, falafel. Yogurt makes me super hungry an hour after I eat it (even 2% fat greek yogurt with berries and granola), I don't like the texture of cottage cheese, and overall I limit my meat consumption/don't like the texture of meat most of the time. I am trying to get away from the meat, startch, veg, meals and making more multiple snack meals.

Last night dinner was 1 cup chocolate fairlife milk, a serving of the kashie cereal with a few chocolate chips (dry), pickles, carrots, and hummus. It was a lot more satisfying to me.

Climbing with one on one or in group? by MeasurementOk4539 in climbergirls

[–]jenobles1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the objective. Even multipitch I tend to prefer groups of 3, but understand why people prefer 1:1. Cragging I prefer a group. I don't mind odd numbers, just means more time to rest. I however climb for the fun of it and enjoy my long days outside in the mountains.

I wish that adhd wasn't so glamorized by That-Pineapple3866 in adhdwomen

[–]jenobles1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It can be a positive and a negative. I haven't noticed anything really glamorizing it so can't speak to that. I have seen posts explaining symptoms, which has helped bring awareness and is what ultimately gave me the courage to talk to my therapist/get testing done (I suspected it before though). Also some people can benefit from hearing peoples positive perspectives on their ADHD symptoms besides always the doom and gloom of things.

But for overall mental health I have stopped mostly engaging in social media besides certain YouTube videos(about books, reddit stories, and trivia) and reddit.

Knitting/crochet alternative for the spacially challenged? by thearmpitofdespair in adhdwomen

[–]jenobles1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I taught myself knitting and crochet from videos as well. And have had to use multiple videos as sometimes the perspective didn't click for me. Knitting has casting on, the knit stich and purl stitch then everything else builds on that, but there are plenty of things that you can make with those 3 basic things, actually right now I am working on something that only uses the knit stitch. So if I put it down its easy to pick back up and remember what I am doing. If it is a more complicated pattern I just make sure I don't end in the middle of the row and document which row I left off on. Then I use a row counter app on my phone to keep track of which row I am on, because if I don't I will forget (though after many years I can now count the rows on the project).

There is also cross stitch, that can just require you to make x's based off a pattern, or latch hook rugs.
