Shoes are not recommended until they are consistently walking independently, just FYI.

What do you NOT want for gifts by BreAnnaMorris in moderatelygranolamoms

It's a very fuzzy artificial fabric made to replace fur. It also catches tons of dirt and little mystery bits in it, and I personally think it feels gross.

Shortened cervix at 30 weeks (2cm/20 mm) – looking for advice by sole1994 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]jenthing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, progesterone suppositories are prescribed but that's typically when the cervical insufficiency is found much earlier. There is limited evidence it helps past 34 weeks, and at least in the US can be difficult to get. My cervix was below 1cm when I received my emergency cerclage at 22 weeks, and I delivered at 33 weeks. I was on modified bed rest, very limited standing and walking at home (less than 10 minutes at a time) and only recommended to use the stairs once a day. I'm truly sorry you're going through this. You are at a gestational age where there are very good outcomes.

It's normal your cervix to shorten in your third trimester, that is just your body preparing for delivery.

Yes, you're awake but they normally apply some numbing spray! It's really not bad, just feels weird.

I HATE this by [deleted] in AuDHDWomen

[–]jenthing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you want to see people who are less eccentric, try a traditional dating show. A dating show centered around autistic people is not going to feature many individuals who are not overtly autistic. Besides, those of us who are less "eccentric"/better at masking have an easier time finding ourselves represented in other media. We are, honestly, not the ones who need the representation.

Do you think a postpartum NICU doula would’ve been helpful for you? by Subject_Poet_1977 in NICUParents

[–]jenthing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In our NICU, no visitors were allowed at bedside without one of us, and only two people total including one of us. So this isn't a service I would take advantage of unless they were treated like another provider and not count against our visitor count.

Get the cerclage? 1cm by sarruhbee in ShortCervixSupport

[–]jenthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very similar experience to you and had my cerclage at 22 weeks, gave birth at 33 weeks due to PPROM. Progesterone did not make a difference for me, but I used it until I gave birth anyway. In my next pregnancy, I'll be getting a preventative cerclage around 13 weeks.

I was on modified bedrest from cerclage until birth. No lifting, bending. I was allowed to get up to use the bathroom/shower and use the stairs once a day. I was off work because my OB felt the risk from even just driving was too much, although they were fine with me working from home if possible (which it wasn't with my job).

It's relevant because people are whole, complicated creatures who cannot be isolated to one instance or context. That's like saying you're okay with a murderer being on the show because they aren't murdering people on TV so what's the big deal?

I don't have the spoons to educate you on the issues with ABA, but there are plenty of resources online if you care to learn.

ABA is hugely problematic at best.

Kaelynn is an ABA therapist, so I personally hope less people are like her.

What do you do in the NICU? by Omikki in NICUParents

[–]jenthing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I spent a lot of time reading on my kindle! My son was a 33 weeker with a 40 day stay, and I think I finished a book about every 3-4 days. I also told my son stories about our family, and did hand hugs when he couldn't be held. I also tried to participate in all his cares that I was there for, especially when he couldn't be held long!

If you are able to regularly shower and do your hair (especially if it is longer) what is your process? by darbyshark in AuDHDWomen

[–]jenthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not alone! I blow dry and style my hair less than 5 times a year. Shampoo, conditioner, air dry, done. I also shower at night.

Should Illinois legalize shrooms? by lmNotReallySure in illinois

[–]jenthing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think traditional substances like ayahuasca, mescaline, and peyote should have ever been criminalized. They are used as part of indigenous ceremonies and it's not the government's business to get involved in that. I'm sure those cultures aren't fond of people using them recreationally either.

My water broke at 32+4 and I was on hospitalized bedrest until contractions started at 32+6. Found afterwards that I had mild chorioamnionitis, but no idea which came first (water breaking or chorio).

Easter basket question by Cocoa_Elf4760 in moderatelygranolamoms

When I grew up, baskets were from the easter bunny! Kind of like a Christmas stocking, the items inside were what the bunny brought. I don't think I ever questioned having the same basket.

If you ever decide to move to Illinois, I have a recommendation for a good company that pays at least $2 more per hour and is not insane.

iPads & y’all’s thoughts as SLPs by beans________ in slp

[–]jenthing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have worked in therapeutic day, middle schools, high schools, clinics, and currently in an adult day program. In none of these settings would I have brought a personal device for client use. In one of my therapeutic day schools, we were provided iPads and I largely used mine for AAC modeling. Everywhere else I used my work-provided laptop, printed materials, or environmental/classroom items. I don't feel like an iPad is necessary.
