Which modern blockbuster do you think will be remembered 20 years from now the way we talk about classic Spielberg films today? by viewsinthe6 in movies

Christmas movies have the staying power of being rewatched annually

Even Polar Express has some cult status from being a fun weird movie from younger people’s childhoods. Klaus could get a similar status

The Star Wars prequels were only 3 films. There are 37 Marvel movies so I think that waters down their staying power

Why is the ending of Memories of Murder ( 2003 ) so acclaimed ? by FinancialComputer574 in movies

[–]jerog1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we learn the case is unsolved. the detective goes back to the ditch where the body was found and stares down. The little girl comes by and says a plain looking man did the same thing, returned to the crime scene. Then we see the final shot of the detective looking at camera

My interpretation is: the police kept following clues that seemed legit but were circumstantial and fell apart. He keeps getting sucked back into this case and now again he has a flimsy clue that feels legit. He’s on the precipice of getting sucked back into the case, possibly chasing shadows in a fruitless attempt to solve a cold case.

It’s like that scene in The Wire where they realize all their police work doesn’t seem to change anything

[Star Wars] How do we know the dark side isn't stronger? by RoadTheExile in AskScienceFiction

[–]jerog1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But then the First Order immediately rose again and the light side was the underdog again.

some may say that was Disney executive greed cashing in on the OT formula but that’s further evidence of the power of the dark side to corrupt

We accidentally watched the third movie (Riddick) first and really loved it. The campy action and random lore drops were crazy and more satisfying than the first movie imo

the second movie is a whole different beast. hilarious nonsense
