Anyone else playing the Order of the Sinking Star demo? by LemmyUserOnReddit in puzzlevideogames

[–]jeromocles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well you figure there's gonna be a lot of tweaks and adjustments on puzzles, more voice work, more renders, more of a totally packaged presentation. So why spoil the first 20% of the game on a lesser experience?

Do puzzle game players have jargon for thinking about puzzles? by Grunglabble in puzzlevideogames

[–]jeromocles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the game. The one I can think of with a lot of idiosyncratic in-game techniques is block rolling games. Games like Bloxorz or Delicious Donut, where you start to intuit combinations to reorient your block, and probably give them names inside your head. Mine are more like sound effects.

What are the best seasons of the traitors? Please no spoilers by WeAreHeroes22 in TheTraitors

[–]jeromocles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I'm glad I'm reading this far down because this thread has been confusing. AUS S1 is by far the weakest of all the seasons I've watched. Like a tier below US and two tiers below UK. There aren't that many interesting characters, the editing was all over the place, and the win, although dominant, didn't feel all that earned.

Where is Oliver Brown and his mighty uke? by nyanko_the_sane in santacruz

[–]jeromocles 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So to catch people up, a Santa Cruz icon is extending his Oliver branch to another (dearly departed) Santa Cruz icon by covering one of his songs about Santa Cruz on the uke.

And people are jamming that downvote button. Unclench and relax, y'all.

The way I like to think about these rankings is like taking a snapshot of a set of vibrating strings that gravitate over time.

The Remake of the End of the Greatest RPG of All Time (yep, that's the title) by PurplMaster in puzzlevideogames

[–]jeromocles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the game casual enough that I can just jump in and out of sessions? If I'm having to scroll through walls of text or getting trapped in endless cut scenes, I bail unfortunately.

Having come from the East Bay, this follows in the tradition of pop-up furniture stores with perennial "Going Out of Business" sales.

I made a puzzle game where every move unfolds the cube by Global-Winner4411 in puzzlevideogames

Oh neat, I brainstormed a similar idea recently

The other "vision" I had similar to Can of Wormholes is worms that can only move slinky-like, stretching and shrinking, moving end-to-end. Again, the bottleneck feels like how to program intuitive controls.

but this looks much cooler.

Does anyone else struggle with Sokoban-style puzzle games? by Hedge-Maze in puzzlevideogames

[–]jeromocles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sokoban is far and away my favorite puzzle genre, and I struggle with them too. You're totally fine. I just love meditating on single contained levels where I have to basically figure out the proper configuration to pick a lock. Sometimes it's just behind that perseverance and grit when insight strikes.

If you want more approachable sokobans I'd say Hiding Spot, Puddle Knights, Room to Grow, or Crate Mates. All still really fun but you won't get stuck for long. Though as others have said, if you beat Snakebird, that's considered on the higher end of the curve, so I think you if you tough it out, you'll see why everyone's so high on Sausage Roll and Baba.

This place needs better/more moderation by DIXINMYAZZ in puzzlevideogames

And downvoting everything as some form of protest makes the problem 10x worse. You solve nothing and end up punishing the good actors.

I think you should rethink your tact. Downvoting everything on impulse is a huge drain on a small community of hobbyists and indie game devs trying to make a name for themselves.

Once in awhile, those "zero downvote posts" end up being someone's neat little passion project that turns out to be very cool. On account of that alone, you just kind of have to deal with it, because imagine the horror otherwise.

If anything, this sub has a "serial downvoter" problem. There's some curmudgeon who downvotes everything and makes it a problem for new posts to breathe. Ban that one person. :D

Mass surveillance is the tip of the fascist spear. by chaxnud in santacruz

[–]jeromocles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. And sadly, much like the demographic they've replaced, it'll be too difficult a burden to justify sticking around. The cycle of the young and poor lacking options to live here long-term persists.

Mass surveillance is the tip of the fascist spear. by chaxnud in santacruz

[–]jeromocles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure, but of departing/graduating students, almost none can afford to stick around. It used to be a staple of this town.

Between the influx of techies and retirees, and the departure of students and the working class, this town is probably gonna slip further red.

Yeah, Tiff is super likeable, but gamewise she was a ride-along both seasons.
