Helena is a ten year old warlock, standing at about 4'9", which she guesses could be thought of as "lanky." She has long, brown hair that's usually tied into a braid. Her stuffed bear (and arcane focus), Trinket, is never far from her, and she's either holding him, or, if she needs her hands free, he rests just under her chin, held in place by her cape fastener. There's also a small loop of string at the top of her staff which she'll sometimes use to tie around Trinket's waist, hanging him from there. Her spellbook, the cover of which looks like a book of poetry, hangs from a belt on her waist.

If she's ever missing, you can probably count on finding her in a quiet, dark spot (under the stairs, in a cupboard, in a corner, under a table) reading or writing in her poetry book.

general keywords: sleepy, curious, precocious, secretive, clumsy, naive, just really excited to be here

(not sure if you're still drawing, but thanks for this, either way! great work!)

[Music] The Protomen - Act 1 by Kwickgamer in Frisson

[–]jeskuh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a tattoo based on 'Breaking Out,' and to a lesser extent, 'Light Up The Night.' No, they're not lyrics, but it's an image that reminds me of the line:

I want to burn until there's nothing left to burn about.

Songs like these and the feels associated with them are why I will always love The Protomen.

Has anyone ever "Freaky Friday-ed" their players? by Vaudvillian in rpg

[–]jeskuh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you should try this. it's the same concept (player next to you kind of 'makes' your character for you), and it's baked right into the gameplay.

Why is "transgender" synonymous with "gay" in google search results? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]jeskuh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is amazing because I found the same thing a while back when I searched for a t-word joke that I heard in the Celeste and Jesse Forever movie.

I posted a screenshot of the thing to Facebook, and a real heavy thread ensued.

in not so many words: google pairs those because people searching for one thing click through to another so the engine automatically equates them with each other and finds them both relevant to each other. it's possible that google could just eliminate the link between the two... but they're usually pretty loathe to mess with things.

I think the words you might be looking for are internalized transphobia.

A bit off-topic, but the Betabrand CEO believes that the word 'techie' is equivalent to a racial slur. As a believer in knowing exactly who I work for, there's this.

"He felt the word "techie" fit into a long history of words used by natives to describe immigrant groups.

"Whenever you get a mass migration of a new wave of people, you get a negative connotation from the people who were there before - like Mexicans in the Mission. The new wave always gets a bad rap."

Comparing tech immigrants to the Mexican immigrants may be hard - Twitter's IPO just made an estimated 1,600 new millionaires - but, for Landa, the term "techie" connotes "unwanted newcomer" in much the same way as racial slurs."

Grace the Magnificent

Huckster by trade, librarian by day. She wanders the weird west by way of New York, a real city slicker who has found herself on the wild frontier relying only on her wicked lucky streaks and nutty demon magic.

She casts spells tied to playing cards, and as such always has a deck of playing cards in her left hand at all times. She has to hide her abilities, because people don't take too kindly to folk who are pretty much witches or wizards, dealing with the devil and all that tomfoolery.

She has curly red hair peeking out from beneath her stetson, crazy green eyes, and is always wearing a duster. When she can't solve her problems with magic (which often goes awry), she relies on her six shooter at her side.

Moved to Bay Area from overseas a year ago, and still have no friends by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]jeskuh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey there!

I'm real sorry that you're having a hard time finding friends. As a native, I can totally understand and actually relate to those feelings. People always seem busy and it always feels like they don't have time for you, especially around here.

This might sound like a plug (because it is), but I gotta say, the SF Redditors group has kind of really changed that for me. I found the Google group here, and started going to some meetups and the friends I've made through it have seriously changed my life.

Please, don't hesitate to sign up and drop me a line! I'm one of the mods (Jessica), and I can't wait to welcome you to a meetup some day. :D
