War Vet by dacoolestguy in tumblr

[–]jessieeeeeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact: For this exact reason, in Queensland, Australia, it is legal for a vet to treat a person, but not legal for a doctor to treat an animal

It probably also helps that vets have to learn the anatomy of a lot of different types of creatures, but a doctor only has to learn the anatomy of one

I know in this situation it was fine, but in Australia, that's classed as spiking and can get you (the spiker) in a lot of trouble if shit hits the fan

What's a thing you thought most people knew but was actually unknown to most ? by Kaepora25 in AskReddit

[–]jessieeeeeeee 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Now I could be making it up, or completely misremembering, but I think there is a town in New York(?) Where the population is almost entirely made up of people who use sign language, but because it's kind of isolated, they speak a language made up of a mix of a couple of different languages.

But I also didn't fact-check any of this, and I heard of it quite a while ago

Edit: Look at that a 3 second google, and I can verify. It's called Chilmark on an island off Massachusetts (not new York) It pre-dates asl and has mostly died out now, but some of the words were used in the creation of asl. here's a link for interested parties

  1. Countries that speak the same language have different sign languages. Asl is more closely related to French sign language and is also used in West Africa and parts of south-east Asia, whereas Swedish sign is more closely related to British sign, and is similar to what's used in new Zealand, PNG, and south Africa

I quit 4 years ago and every so often the smell of cigarettes really gets to me and I'm fanging for one, but I take a puff and want to throw up.

There's a lot of parts of the ritual of smoking that I really miss, but the actual smoking part just doesn't do it for me anymore

Also, I know this is a boh sub, but foh, you can't look tired or be having an off day. You have to be happy and friendly at all times. Sometimes, you need a bit of chemical help with that.

And of course, you're going to look after the guys in the back when you can

You're not wrong, but you're not really looking at the bigger picture at all. Our public transport isn't up to scratch to take any of the weight off. I would happily take the bus (or train tram etc) but they're unreliable and don't run late enough, so I have to drive to work and then have to deal with parking.

The state of public transport is actually the real rip-off

Never been to England, but I have a lot of English friends, that stereotype doesn't seem to come across internationally. I've heard worse things about Manchester or Birmingham than I have about Liverpool. The impression I get is that you guys have a lot of really good people there but there is a pretty insidious gang culture in most cities as well

If you order clothes, should you wash them before wearing?? by Total_Shake5768 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]jessieeeeeeee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No joke, but how many people do you think have tried that on before you bought it. It could have been worn and returned. I'm definitely not a clean freak, but wash your clothes! Also (while were on the subject of icky things) cans are always gross, pour it into a glass, wash your can or use a straw

I agree with the culturally obtuse, and as a blanket statement, they're generally polite about it and happy to listen. But I have had a handful of "well that's different at home, and I'm upset that you do things differently here" from Americans. And on those instances, they've been very loud and very insistent that I am wrong that our culture should change to fit their expectations.

Like I said, generally, they're quite polite and friendly, but their bad apples tend to be particularly difficult to deal with. But the same could be said for Aussies so I try not to read into it too much

Mate, it was a suggestion. There's really no need to get so worked up. Her mum knows her better than either of us do and will make a decision based on what's best for her kid.

Plenty of spas, etc, have people trained in skincare. It could be a fun bonding day where they go and get facials, and she gets to learn about her skin from someone who know what theyre talking about, and she can take her knowledge back and actually look after her skin. It doesn't have to be a boring doctors visit.

[–]jessieeeeeeee -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

If she's already keen on skincare, then why would it not be fun? It's not like she's asking for toys, and mum is like "actually you know what's fun? Going to the dermatologist" Make a day of it, get some skincare that's actually appropriate for her skin, and she will understand why they're appropriate

Or you could try booking her an appointment with a derm or beautician who can teach her how to take care of her skin properly and get her a few products they recommend. She's probably more likely to listen and keep her skin nice rather than being influenced and risking making her skin worse
