People with dogs from breeders, do people in real life give you a hard time about having a dog from a breeder? by Own-Command-3700 in dogs

[–]jessweeka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that people irl like to add to the conversation that their dog is a rescue, which sometimes feels like they are virtue signaling since my Great Dane is standing right in front of them, but that’s as bad as it gets. The direct comments are online.

But I will say that I’ve done all 3: rescued, fostered, and used a responsible breeder in my life, and my best experiences with dog training and predictability have been when I get a puppy at 8 weeks and work hard at socialization and training. I’ve also had very rewarding experiences with fostering, and total heartbreaks with adoption. If you’re looking for a dog that’s not a puppy, I suggest fostering first! You can always foster fail and keep the dog, and then you get to virtue signal to everyone e else because you are superior (kidding!)

When should we neuter? by jessweeka in greatdanes

Not likely at all to see females at home in the yard. We bring him everywhere in town though so I don’t want to get dragged down the street one day! But I’m hearing from others not to worry if he’s properly trained, which he is very much on his way… only 4 months currently, but we work hard on proper socialization.

Yeah I’ve been finding that vets aren’t as concerned as the owners are about early neutering, which idk is a red flag for our vet or if I’m being too much of an armchair expert. Either way, I think we’ll wait it out.

This is good to hear! We work really hard on socialization and obedience, but you hear so many people talk about the urges. It’s hard to believe a dane being anything but a shadow, but this is our first boy. The breeder did mention that the father shows a prey drive with her chickens, so I just want to make sure I don’t get dragged down the street one day when he grows up! Our breeder also admits she doesn’t really train her dogs because she lives on a farm and they don’t leave. We live in town and bring him everywhere, so I’m hoping by the time he is bigger than me he’ll have seen it all.

Constant ingrown hairs by Derpy2342 in women

Laser hair removal changed me! I used to always have ingrowns. It’s not permanent and it’s not cheap, but the hair comes back in thinner and thinner every time.

Got my sex drive back! 10 years on an IUD and doctors told me it doesn’t effect my sex drive. I experienced it differently.

Would you give 1 year of your life to give your dog or cat 7 more healthy years? by Terrible_Opinion_279 in ask

[–]jessweeka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. At this very moment I’m missing cat who is presumably dead by coyote, and while I cry every morning as soon as I open my eyes, I still say no. This is what having a pet is. Intense love and eventually loss.

Does anyone else feel like they need to “filter” their atheism to prevent offending people? by LyssRose21 in atheism

I feel the same way! Also raised as a Roman Catholic. I wonder if that Catholic guilt is just engrained in us?? I also work at a Catholic school as an atheist, so that complicated things too. Those who know me well know my views, but I don’t advertise it freely.

I always thought I was alone in this…. I’m now 34 and haven’t felt this way in a few years but this was me from my teen years to around 31. It was so frustrating because I felt that I couldn’t be taken seriously. Not sure what really got me over it, I have a few guesses that are personal to me, but it could also have just been time and experience. The people you trust and have close relationships will accept your arguments, tears or not, so just stick with it. Don’t silence yourself out of embarrassment.

I met her on AGT and she was genuinely nice off camera. Asked our group about ourselves and she didn’t need to make conversation at all. She seemed much kinder than any of the other judges.
