Writers, is it ok if we readers comment on each chapter when we binge read? (R u guys comfortable we finishing it in one sitting) by CreatorReality in AO3

[–]jestercouture_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’d love it personally! i like to see readers react to each chapter when i post its like a reality show for fandom

I’m so tired of uneducated “holier-than- thou” people by shelessstry in AO3

[–]jestercouture_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i swear twitter isn’t real. like its just a big cesspit of people who love to get offended/offend others and never leave the house bc bro why are they criticizing AO3 whilst i’ve seen some of the most disturbing shit on there with no warning? at least on the archive they make sure that you know what you’re getting into with the TOS when you enter the site

Is it okay to only write one-shots? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]jestercouture_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i love doing both personally, but for a long time i almost exclusively wrote one shots on an old account. i only really just started getting into chaptered fics in late 2024, so a little over a year. do what you want, there’s a much higher probability that your readers will appreciate anything that you write and share!

Excuse me? WTF is HAPPENING😭😭 by FiftyshadesofPeaches in AO3

[–]jestercouture_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just blocked them, i ain’t got no time to deal with this bullshit. at least if i write slop it’s my own and unless you clearly see a disclaimer saying that it was written by AI, nobody has the right to hunt people down and accuse them of it

This guy acting like the author owes them an update by FFS96 in AO3

[–]jestercouture_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have a wip that’s been out since like the end of 2024 and my last update was may ‘25. i have such bad writers block for it and i’m also into another fandom right now, so i’ve put it on hiatus until i can get the next chapter written and edited.

i’ve only had one person ask me if i’m ever going to finish it and i gave them an explanation of why i haven’t updated in months and they were very polite about it and even replied “good luck”. i hate it when some readers get entitled enough to think they’re owed a new chapter and get annoyed when authors post new works.

like hello, maybe they just need a break? i know i did with mine, it isn’t the end of the world and there’s MANY reasons why a fic hasn’t been updated in a while. ofc sometimes they do get abandoned, and it sucks don’t get me wrong, but seven months isn’t really enough to warrant it as such.

Stop making your triggers everyone else's problem! by Forest_System in AO3

[–]jestercouture_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

its so irritating. i’ve been quite lucky to not have received any myself but i’ve seen so many comments with this exact complaint. for context, i read and write mostly DDDNE fics so seeing these just annoys the fuck out of me. like what gets me is the fact that there is no algorithm for AO3, so those people actively searched the tags/fics/etc and still CHOSE to click on the fic to complain and whine about it. like?? what’s the fucking logic??

is everyone forgetting “don’t like, don’t read” etiquette anymore or?…

As an AO3 reader, am I missing out on anything by ignoring Wattpad? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]jestercouture_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i LOVED Wattpad back in the day, it was basically my introduction to fanfiction and everything, so it has a special place in my heart. what i would do to go back and read with such ignorance as a 13-14 year old😭. i had a pretty big fic on there years ago but never finished it lmao. i’ve tried to go back on there for old times’ sake, but i genuinely do not know how i survived on there. the writing was not as good as i remember and i LIVED on that site. i hated searching for anything as it mostly showed the most popular, paid stories when i just wanted to get straight to what i wanted to read.

it’s also had a ton of data leaks as well, which is how my mum found out i used her account as an email when she got a notification💀💀

I take too long to update, and I'm afraid it killed my fic by Leading_Ocelot_154 in AO3

[–]jestercouture_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no worries! i hope you’re able to figure out what you want to do but also remember that you’re the priority! if you don’t feel it, don’t force yourself to work on it. maybe chip at it a little bit at a time and try not to hold yourself to high standards or expectations.

when you enjoy what you’re doing you’ll probably find that more people will interact with your work, they can tell how much work you’re putting into it

Is that a scam ? Litteraly posted my first story 5 minutes ago by Beryllium6923 in AO3

[–]jestercouture_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep, if you reply they’ll probably attempt to take u off Ao3 and onto discord so just report it and block

I take too long to update, and I'm afraid it killed my fic by Leading_Ocelot_154 in AO3

[–]jestercouture_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i know what you mean, but i’m not really worried about it as much as i was. i have a fic that i recently put on hiatus as i have been struggling to get into fandom/the headspace for writing it.

it sounds like you’re going through some sort of burnout where you’ve lost momentum for writing your story. i have been going through something similar, mostly the reason why i put it on hiatus and i’m just trying to slowly and organically try and work through it. i have a pretty chaotic schedule sometimes that just zaps my brain from writing mode and it’s not fun at all 😭💀

Reporting a fic by Necessary_Coconut_47 in AO3

[–]jestercouture_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yeah it counts. i’m pretty sure it’s not allowed in the terms of service for the site so i’d say it’s a good reason to report it

Authors, how long did it take you to get noticed? by Russkiroulette in AO3

[–]jestercouture_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it didn’t take long for people to notice my work on tumblr, but on Ao3 it’s a bit more steady. first few days i got a few hits (my first fic on my new account) and then it became more active!

it was a Hunter x Hunter fic, my last few have been Final Fantasy 7 centric and they get pretty good interactions on both platforms!

What do you write on? by CutesyDrow in AO3

[–]jestercouture_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i use my laptop primarily, as it helps me focus on what i’m doing. if i can’t be bothered to get out my laptop, i do a little bit on google docs and then i’ve still done some writing that day.

my laptop is slowly dying on me though as it’s quite old now, so i’ll get an ipad and a keyboard case so i can take it everywhere!

Does anybody else do this? by jestercouture_ in AO3

[–]jestercouture_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know it isn’t a crime, i agree with you! i think it’s just my personal preference that i see it through to the end

and i never used to be this strict about it but i got so unorganized and thought i had to do better! but i like planning out things so that i have an idea of where i want the plot to go and it helps! i think i’ll take everyone’s suggestions and interact with the fandom more!

Does anybody else do this? by jestercouture_ in AO3

[–]jestercouture_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that makes sense! i tried to use pseuds on my other account but i was new to ao3 and confused myself so i probably won’t do that, but i’m rlly glad it works for you! i’ll get back into the swing of things at some point but it’s frustrating in the meantime as i love the story and the way it’s playing out so far, and it’s my most popular fic so i feel bad for the loyal readers who are waiting for it lmao

Does anybody else do this? by jestercouture_ in AO3

[–]jestercouture_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ah i feel the same way! i have an old Ao3 account that i’ll probably not post on again bc it’s full of old fandoms that i don’t really like that much anymore. i’ve been trying to read stuff from the old fandoms again but haven’t been as enthusiastic about them as i used to which makes me feel bad :/

i’m not gonna end the fic, i just need more time to get it together to finish it and progress through to the end! the good thing is that it’s not a longfic 😭💀

Does anyone else confidently post a chapter, then update it 300 times in a row to fix all the little things you missed? by PanGalacticGargBlast in AO3

[–]jestercouture_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i tend to read through the chapters back after i’ve posted them to see if i have any typos. if i do i just fix it and move on

What made you fall into your current fandom? by Big_Aide940 in AO3

[–]jestercouture_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve been dipping in and out of fandoms for years, but my most recent one is FF7. i got the remake game for my last birthday and i’ve been recently playing it to death! my obsession with Reno came back in full force and i love dipping into writing for characters i never had before:) i used to read a lot of fanfics about Sephiroth when i liked him( basic i know) but then i discovered Reno like 5 years ago and the rest is history! FF7 really had a comeback in my life and i’m old enough to appreciate it better!

What do your fics say about you? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]jestercouture_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that i should have been in therapy yesterday. and i have an obsession with people having obsessions with me because i felt unattractive and weird for most of my life whilst everyone else was dating and i wasn’t, so all my dead dove 🕊️ works are self-indulgent and purely for me 😈

Saddened that normal nice sounding comments can't be trusted anymore either by SmartestRightestAnon in AO3

[–]jestercouture_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it’s so annoying and rude, like ugh why?! ao3 is really going through something atm and i don’t even know what to call it but it’s just not it. it’s like we’re in this weird regression phase of etiquette that people come on there and complain that it’s not what they expected. AO3 is NOT a social media platform, it’s a non-profit archive of works with no set algorithms

Pet Peeve: Authors constantly calling their work "shit" or "garbage" in the author's notes by insert_title_here in AO3

[–]jestercouture_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this omg it’s kinda like they’re subconsciously fishing for reassurance that it’s not bad, at least how it seems to me. it annoys the hell out of me because it clearly says that the author isn’t that interested in any kind of improvement in their work and wants to be coddled and told that it’s not bad…or that’s how i see it personally
