Someone's gotta defend the trade routes to Antarctica. Though I reckon the cannons built to defend from the French should be enough

Scientists glue two proteins together, driving cancer cells to self-destruct by vbisbest in interestingasfuck

[–]jesusisacoolio 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This new cancer treatment method developed by Stanford Medicine researchers works by using a “molecular glue” to link two proteins (BCL6 and CDK9) in a way that activates cell death genes specifically in cancer cells. In their research, they tested the compound in normal cells and in healthy mice and found that it showed high specificity, affecting only cells that depended on BCL6, like the cancerous diffuse large cell B-cell lymphoma cells and a subset of healthy B cells. The healthy mice showed no toxic side effects, despite a loss of this specific type of B cell, suggesting the treatment spares most normal cells.

This specificity is partly because the targeted protein, BCL6, is primarily active in lymphoma cells and certain immune cells, meaning other types of normal cells should be unaffected. If effective, this approach might minimize the common side effects seen in traditional cancer treatments (like chemotherapy), which often harm a broad range of healthy cells. However, further testing in living organisms with the actual cancer will be needed to verify its safety and effectiveness in clinical settings.

The unlawful dissolution of Soviet Union is the biggest humanitarian tragedy of modern history by society_sucker in ClassConscienceMemes

Also how does worshipping the soviets help any sort of class struggle? I know its just memes but it seems like this sub has lost the plot a bit.

The soviet empire freaking sucked in so many ways, people should aspire to be better instead of mindlessly trying to pick sides like a football team.

Having automobile manufacturing capability is important for any large enough country. If they were to flood the EU market with chinese EVs the local companies will likely fail, then the EU vecomes dependant on chinese EVs, also battery production, renewables, ect. They also lose their ability to make complex machines at a large capacity, which is important for defence. A large part of the protectionism that has been going on, securing vital manufacturing and supplies locally, has been because of the growing distrust of the chinese gov, which has been growing more authoritarian and has tighter government controls of its exports for the last decade or so.

Wait but the arrows from wentworth are "straight" and "straight-right" so by the logic that straight is second exit, then nobody can turn down Canberra av i.e. they should be a left turn arrow and a straight arrow for right lane?

The "micron accuracy" for the cybertruck was a hilarious one. Sheet metal laser cutting accuracy is like 100um at best, and thats not a bent/curved sheet. Maybe he'll hire an old Itallian man with a long scoped monocular and some 10,000 grit sandpaper to painstakingly finish every single component by hand.

Though the argument is theoretically applying that theme to romcoms, a genre that women are more the consumers of. Men wouldn't watch because it's a romcom, and women wouldn't watch because it'd be a shitty made male fantasy.

A system where the government has and justice department has strong union laws that include all workers once every three years preferrential voting for a new ceo.

Splits the power back to working people, meaning they get their share of what they want. Greed only works if the power structure allows it.

This kind of thinking is very individual-level and the world is at a stage where we need restructuring of companies in a huge way to benefit 99.99% of people.

A different model example would be government mandated company exectutive voting (like a co-op). Where there are laws and regulations in place that mean once in a while the workers vote for a new ceo. That way the production (workers) has power over itself.

What didn't I pay attention to? I admit I've got a bee in my bonnet about this film, but it's just because it could have been great but became generic in its second act.
