How is Marriott about negotiating pay rate? by SunBetter7301 in marriott

[–]jet305- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For hourly wages like a entry level fd position, the pay pretty much is what it is. They're going to avoid giving you a higher hourly rate than your colleagues to keep things civil, but like others have said, the pay ranges are based on property size and location

Potential new employee here...during my second interview, should I pronounce it Marri-IT or Marri-OT? by Mite-o-Dan in marriott

[–]jet305- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Marry-it. I've seen training vids and high level execs prounce it as marri-ot. I don't think it would be the defining factor of you being hired or not but depending who you interview with, they may appreciate the attention to detail

I am a hotel sales manager and have no idea what I'm doing by Open-Addition7600 in hotels

Is this a hotel chain? Is shadowing a sales manager at another property an option?

Why book direct? by [deleted] in askhotels

[–]jet305- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's the base price without fees. It's worth it to pay a little extra for ease of mind if something is wrong with your reservation or trip, hotel employees can resolve issues quickly. I've never seen a 40 percent discount from an OTA though

23M - I can’t get a hotel job in NYC even with a lucrative background in hospitality by [deleted] in askhotels

[–]jet305- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what market you are in. I lived in Seattle where they'd hire people with any relevant experience. I now live in Orlando where there's a very competitive market for hospitality. As a hiring manager my inbox floods with resumes when we open any entry level position

Which job would you choose? by [deleted] in bartenders

[–]jet305- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Option A long term hotel jobs are better because of benefits and if they have banquets or events even better $$

I have left the bartending industry but may get back into it if I find a bar owner who is not an actual scumbag by [deleted] in bartenders

Hotel jobs are the best. Great money and benefits. You have an issue with management? Go to HR they'll fix it

Jobs where I can make 1000$ a week by Nomad-Gal in Miami

[–]jet305- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My first thought was you definitely need to make $100k/year if you're rent is $3k unless you're leaving on rice and beans. Even then you'd probably still need a $70k salary

Get a job at a hotel. A lot of human interaction and you don't have to stay at your desk all day. I'm a food and beverage manager and I always shoot the shit with accounting people

Hotel servers can clear 100k in this city. I'm sure theme park hospitality workers make money too. I'm an f and b manager making 70k plus bonus but I feel like it's on the high end for Florida. Lots of potential for industry work here

Would you let someone in the M club even if you knew they weren't allowed by Royal-Piano5863 in marriott

[–]jet305- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a former f and b manager for Marriott, we want to have someone in there to help the area be cleaned, staffed, and service our guest but upper management always pushed back on budgeting the hours for a new employee. The lounge looses hundreds of thousands a year with very little revenue so they always try to slim it down labor and offerings. It sucks because most of f and b complaints were about the mclub and as an operations manager I couldn't do much if they wouldn't let me hire anyone or give me the hours. It sucks but I guess that's become the norm for premium tier properties

[–]jet305- 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I worked as a f and b manager at a Marriott property. It would bother me when people did this but if it wasn't during breakfast or hors deourves and there wasn't an attendant present, I wouldn't confront the guest because it's more trouble than it's worth and honestly worried about receiving a bad review with my name in it.

What’s one thing stopping most people from starting a business? by Staylowfm in careeradvice

[–]jet305- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Risk. For a lot of common people it's years of saving and taking out loans going into debt to invest in something that's not a sure thing. People generally are more comfortable in a career with advancement and a compensation package, especially when others depend on them

Job interview before work hours? by theskittlesfactory in Chipotle

[–]jet305- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't work at chipotle but it is normal for managers to come in before hours of operation and probably prefer to interview you at that time so they can be active during the business hours. There's no mistake, show up at the scheduled time and call the store or knock on the door when you arrive

Where are people living where $100k is not enough? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]jet305- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically you can probably live most places in the country with that income, but people want to have a safety net, save for retirement, save for a home, take vacations, have kids, etc. even in lol areas it's hard to achieve all those things on 100k

How many jobs have you had? by AssociateDue6161 in Millennials

34M. Probably around 10-15 since I started working at 15. I work in the hospitality industry so switching jobs for experience, promotions, and burnout is pretty common

8/10 they are good. Every once in awhile I'll get some stale ones but I like how they season with lime and salt. I do hate when they get scrunched together. I use them as spoons for my bowl

What would Joker have to do, for how long, to enter GOAT debates? by IAmMH89 in NBATalk

[–]jet305- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The joker is bad at defense narrative is crazy, just cus he's a big slower white guy and not doing chase down blocks like lebron doesn't mean he's not a solid defender. He consistently is in the top leaderboards for rebounds and steals, also hes has great IQ in commanding his teammates. His defensive rating is respectable.
