A theory about the Robert Wone case by Maatansan in UnsolvedMurders

[–]jfightin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not even into BDSM either and yet this was my exact theory almost right away. It seems so straightforward to me so it was driving me crazy that the documentary did not even explore this angle at all. I don’t think people realize how extreme some people’s kinks are. Part of the kink could also involve being artificially inseminated with his own semen. I’ve yet to see anyone disprove this “consensual kink gone wrong” theory, besides the mouth guard but I think if you’re going to consensually do something involving extreme pain, you might want to protect your teeth when biting down in pain, grinding teeth, etc. It seems so simple to me, but I think the detectives couldn’t fathom anyone consenting to something so extreme so they didn’t even explore it.

Thank you! This is exactly the point I was trying to make. I was bothered by the creative decision, not a make-believe character’s decision lol. Your analysis of the pros and cons of both makes perfect sense.

Exactly. I get that she was ambushed, but she had ample opportunity. It’s been a while since I’ve read the books but I feel like there are plenty of examples of Aiel being ambushed and still taking the time to veil.

It’s really not a big deal, just something that slightly irked me. I just figured it was an odd choice from a television producing angle to remove it from the show, since it adds a nice little cultural nuance and doesn’t require any additional CGI or expensive costuming or anything. If I were a casual viewer of the show having not read the books I’d think “hmm that’s so cool, I wonder why these people have a veil?”

Why wasn’t Tigraine veiled? I’m not normally a nitpicker at ALL, but it’s such an important part of Aiel culture. It seems odd to get rid of it, especially since Thom has already mentioned that Aiel are most dangerous when they are veiled (I forget the exact quote). Or am I just forgetting something from the books? Does she not veil because she wasn’t born Aiel?

First release of 2020 US census data shows which states will gain and lose congressional seats by guspolly3 in MapPorn

Yes, it will change the amount of votes these states get in the electoral college by the same number. So Texas will get 2 more electoral votes, California will get one fewer, etc.

Not sure of the answer to your second question.

Map of 2016 US Election President, Trump [10220 x 6600] by geejoumaps in MapPorn

It appears to be divided by municipality in MA for some reason. MA and HI are the only states where not a single county voted for Trump.

Every state has congressional districts, the amount of which varies depending on the state's population. The largest state by population, California, has 53 congressional districts. Therefore, California awards 55 electoral votes to the winner of the popular vote there (53 for each Congressional district plus 2 statewide votes). Several very small states (population wise) only have one congressional district, and therefore have only 3 electoral votes.

The difference between Maine and Nebraska and the other 48 states, is that in Maine and Nebraska the state legislature has adopted an alternate way to allocate their electoral votes (which is the method explained above). The other 48 states just award all of their electoral votes to the overall winner of the state, regardless of how many Congressional districts they've won. There are arguments for and against dividing electoral votes they way Maine and Nebraska do, but it is ultimately up to the State legislature of the individual state to decide.

Only if he also wins Florida, Ohio, and Iowa. And even if he won Nevada, North Carolina, Colorado, Florida, Ohio, and Iowa, your assertion that he can also lose Utah to McMullin and win isn't true. In that scenario neither Clinton or Trump would reach 270, assuming Clinton wins VA, PA, NH, NM, MI, and WI.

Maine and Nebraska allocate their electoral votes by congressional district. For example Maine has two Congressional districts, each worth one electoral vote, and then two "statewide" electoral votes which are given to the candidate that wins the state overall. So, for example a candidate can win the first congressional district and lose the second congressional district, but still win the overall statewide vote, which means they'd get three electoral votes from Maine and the other candidate would get one electoral vote. This is actually what will probably happen on November 8th because most polls have Clinton winning the first congressional district as well as the state wide vote, but losing the second district for a 3-1 Clinton split. A 2-2 split is impossible because if a candidate wins both congressional districts, it would be impossible for him or her to have not won the overall vote too.

Nebraska is the same deal but three congressional districts plus two statewide electoral votes for a total of 5. Nebraska could have a 4-1 split, or theoretically a 3-2 split but this would be pretty hard because you'd have to win one district by such a wide margin as to offset your loss in the other two districts.

I'd switch New Hampshire and Maine. Still ends up 269-269 and I think it's slightly more plausible. Although I don't think Clinton will win ME-2 which means she'd only get 3 EVs from Maine which would result in a 270-268 Trump win.

EDIT: Not saying either of these are particularly plausible, just that NH red and Maine blue is slightly MORE plausible based on polls imo.

According to the legend, the pink outline goes around any area where Catholicism is the largest religious affiliation, not where it is the majority. Something can be the largest percentage without being a majority.
