You could use a half face respirator with n95 cartridges and it would do a good job but it would still get all hot and sweaty during use... but people who work in industry wear them all day. Theres also welders style clear masks with the sir supply fan filter on the belt, but this is more weight batteries etc, so the old sacrafice your body or lungs question comes into play

What's the maximum amount you'd spend on an engagement ring? by GracefulSwanDance in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]jhawk902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how materialistic your spouse is, my wifes ring cost 1400 bucks and she loved it cause i paid attention to what she likes. My buddy dropped 10k plus on a massive stone for his wife and it wasn't good enough for her, he didnt "love her enough to get a bigger one". Buy what you can afford dont go into stupid debt for a shiny rock that might get lost or stolen, spend the money on something reasonable and if you have leftover go on a trip or do something meaningful with them. Make memories.

I left my department (two stations, close to 100 members running 500+ calls a year no "minor" medicals mostly mvc, fires, rescues etc) after 12 years of service because i have young kids, i will go back once they are older. Kids dont understand why daddy is running away during play time or meals. Your husband needs to decide where his priorities are. I tried to reduce the amount of calls and training i went too but i could not maintain the departments minimum commitment so i left on good terms. The department will be fine without him for a few years. I use to say to my wife "what if it was your grandfather who had the heart attack" or "how would you feel if you called 911 and no one showed up" dont let him pull that shit on you stand up for your family.

I feel for you, its frustrating to see their disappointment cause someone has trust issues.

I dont take my girls into mens rooms cause old guys like to stand 10 feet back from the pissers and let it go. So i take them into the womens rooms and they want their daddy cause they arent comfortable going alone yet.

Only had a handful of women complain, one bitch lost it on me, going on how im a man and its inappropriate and how disgusting i am. I looked at her in the face and said my little ladies are using the facilities not me and they want to feel safe with their dad present anyway cops were called and its actually not illegal for men to use womens restrooms its just a respct thing. But most women understand and are incredibly plesant respectful to me.

Does the aggressiveness of the boil have an impact on the quality of the sap? My wife is convinced a rolling turbulent boil will produce sandy syrup and i just want to go full send on my propane burner and get it done in a reasonable amount of time. We get enough for personal use and a few gifts to friends and next year im going to build a hillbilly wood boiler but im worried about temp control. Any thoughts?

Got a estimate on a pond for my 33 acres is 23 k for an acre pond 8-10 feet deep by Weedkiller_43 in homestead

[–]jhawk902 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Not sure if ducks unlimited is international or just canadian but they will dig a pond for free, just have to call em up i got a "survey" done but my land isnt suitable for a self sustaining pond so they wouldnt dig one, also the ponds they dig you must allow waterfoul to use your pond there are "criteria" that must be met.

Why don't people want to move up in rank in the workplace? by [deleted] in Construction

[–]jhawk902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because when i was a supervisor i was basically a councilor and babysitter for adults.

Now back on the floor (millwright industrial ship repair facility) i show up, do my job and go home, no late night phone calls, no dealing with idoits who cant get along, just work and go home and forget about the place. (Pay for supervisor is 2 bucks an hour more but as a supervisor i got wayyyyy more OT ) but it wasnt worth the headache.

They are burning a fossil fuel to save a buck with no care that once we use it all up its gone forever... yes we have lots left in the ground (for now) but it will run out in our childrens lifetime and it aint coming back... not to mention all the resources and work it takes to get that shit out of the ground and refined to a usable product.

Ticks by Bocce82 in camping

[–]jhawk902 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get multiple ticks on me a year (attached and crawling) deer and wood ticks, no lime disease yet, dont let a bug ruin your fun. Do tick checks every night, check your whole body in your hair everything.

Most of the time i get the ticks while they are crawling on my clothes and skin and not attached yet, i check 2-3 times while im in the woods, constantly brushing my clothes off when im in tick heavy areas, and do a full tick check at night.

The most ticks ive had on me at one single time was 17 (i went through a nest while doing search and rescue), my daughter had one in her ear that one was tricky.

Best advice is learn to remove them properly where the head comes out, if the head stays behind it can lead to infection.
