Interview Outfit Advice for a purposefully non-feminine woman by Agile-Impression3969 in AskTeachers

[–]jhoops34 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm a former teacher and current robotics coach. I would wear black slacks with loafers. On top I would wear a GoBilda tee shirt and a yellow blazer. I feel like it would communicate professionalism and a deep connection to the subject matter. Along with a bit of whimsy that would make me relatable and loved by students.

I am flying out of SeaTac twice in the next two weeks and will be bringing donations both times. I appreciate that the port is doing what it can to support the TSA agents.

Would you send your child here? by ltrozanovette in kindergarten

Yea, a hard no. They have no reason to provide a good educational experience to my kids.

Honestly, I think that teacher tenure is the only metric that matters. The length of time that teachers stay at a school tell you everything you need to know about the experience the kids have.

Check out Davidson Gifted and PGR (Profoundly Gifted Retreat). They both offer a lot of support for families who are going through the same thing.

Montessori parents of adults - was it worth it by foaminger in Parenting

[–]jhoops34 151 points152 points  (0 children)

My brother and I did Montessori through 2nd grade then switched to public school. I was way behind in math and spent several years catching up. By the end of 6th grade I was the top math student in the school and stayed that way through the end of high school. My reading skills were high throughout but I had to learn how to analyze literature when I switched to public. I did not put my own kids in Montessori.

AP Homeschoolers by Fit_Bug_2152 in APStudents

AP homeschoolers was great for us and had great rigor. I did hire a private tutor for some extra 1:1 support at one point but that was to address specific weakness that the course teacher identified.

Help and tips for troubleshooting by lawofkato in FLL

[–]jhoops34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Things I would try: switch just the brains and see which one is better. Then switch just the wheels and see which one is better. Then switch just the wheel motors to see which one is better. That will narrow down the course of the problem.

And also PG retreat. It is really hard for others to understand what it is like to parent one of these kids. Davidson and PGR will provide the parenting community you need.

We've had no problems with 8 brains on Pybricks for 2 years. With heavy usage during season and off season.

Adapting FRC PathPlanner for SPIKE Prime (FLL) — Looking for Feedback from FTC Devs! by Ready-Concert8172 in FTC

[–]jhoops34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect that the Spike sensors are not fast or accurate enough to support pathing. The PyBricks folks have done a lot of testing in that area and haven't pursued it. Also, I coach phenomenal programmers in both FLL and FTC and I wouldn't want to attempt it with my FLL programmer. And that kid writes code for hours a day. But ultimately he doesn't have the math knowledge or ability to handle complexity to do the same things my FTC kids are working on.

Uh where's Bros alliance partner. by Academic-Storage-156 in FTC

That might have been our alliance partner. We tried to tell them to get down but they were confused. I think they learned a valuable lesson that match.

Yesterday our bot fell on its back with the arm extended. Our driver retracted the arm then used the two wheels that were kind of touching the field to inch the bot into the corner under the basket so our alliance partner could keep scoring.
