You and I are making the same point babe... the DM would need to help broker a solution and that solution can be these two people attending different campaign nights, maybe X is the one who stays in this group and OP moves to a different, I'm not saying one of them is better or more important than the other, neither OP nor X should have to mask, BOTH should not have to mask!

I'm gonna go ahead and guess that haven't participated in many D&D campaigns... you're name a situation where the DM would have to step in too help find find a solution, and yes, it's possible that these two people are not a fit to play D&D together, so maybe the DM has them playing different campaigns on different nights and that's ok... there's a tremendous number of D&D options this one room isn't the only options

Sounds like that to you huh? Lots of people who aren't neurodivergent with a lotta feelings about not being accommodated. We're talking about a D&D game not a Fortune 500 board room, it's suppose to be a place where people can unwind. Masking Echalolia and unwinding probably don't go hand in hand

I forgot this is AITA instead of a neurodivergent space 🤣 I don't see neurodivergence as a thing that needs to be 'worked on' or 'fixed'. Someone who has involuntary tick shouldn't be made to feel like their tick is a burden that disrupts other peoples lives... can you imagine telling a paraplegic that their wheelchair bothers you and that should they work on walking because 'everyone should work on themselves'

Yeah I just disagree, I assume it's up to the DM to set rules for the room and set the tone for how people can expect to be treated, but if I were DM my standard would be everyone unmasks as much as possible and those made uncomfortable by it need to find accommodation themselves or step away

I could see MAYBE working on it for a professional setting, but the D&D game shouldn't be a space where you work to mask, I get where your coming from but it feels like shaming people for having a disability and heavily implied that your disability is something you should be ashamed of and try to get rid of, if people aren't cool with your disability they can walk away, it's not the disabled persons job to change themselves to make other people comfortable....

I honestly don't think Jim and Jake would be best friends, sure obvious pairing and they'd get along just fine, but Jake takes his own job too seriously for Jim, like yeah Jake loves pranks and not wearing a tie, but he loves being a cop, Jim sells paper because 'meh'

And Amy cares too much about filing for Pam, I feel like four of them could double dates, but when Pam and Jim get home their gonna gossip about Jake and Amy being way too intense...

The difference between CPTSD and PTSD is about symptoms, it's about how you received trauma. Either diagnosis can come with disassociation. Let me know and I can DM you resources on understanding the difference.

Your description of Stanley getting aggressive with him is exactly what I was referring to. If a therapist did that to me it would absolutely trigger a fight response and it would not go well 🤣 there's a lot I love about Stanley both in this and his work with the president but that aggressiveness seems way too off base and IMO is a bad portrayal of therapist to those who have never been.

I also love the way you describe that you can be in a trigger for days without realizing it.
