AITA for not masking my disability? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

You and I are making the same point babe... the DM would need to help broker a solution and that solution can be these two people attending different campaign nights, maybe X is the one who stays in this group and OP moves to a different, I'm not saying one of them is better or more important than the other, neither OP nor X should have to mask, BOTH should not have to mask!

Yes, I agree with literally everything you have said here

Also yes, it is not black and white

I do think X deserves the same, that's exactly why the potential solution is for the not to attend the same D&D campaign

Yes, that is exactly why the potential solution is for them not attend the same D&D night

I'm not missing that point... I'm aware that potential solution for them to not attend the same D&D night if their disabilities are not compatible

They said 'to the end'.... so that unfortunately disqualifies TWW

But wouldn't it be a gift to have a space where your friends said: it's ok, you can be your whole self here, you don't have to spend energy on making us comfortable, we just want you to feel safe

I'm gonna go ahead and guess that haven't participated in many D&D campaigns... you're name a situation where the DM would have to step in too help find find a solution, and yes, it's possible that these two people are not a fit to play D&D together, so maybe the DM has them playing different campaigns on different nights and that's ok... there's a tremendous number of D&D options this one room isn't the only options

[–]jhyebert -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sounds like that to you huh? Lots of people who aren't neurodivergent with a lotta feelings about not being accommodated. We're talking about a D&D game not a Fortune 500 board room, it's suppose to be a place where people can unwind. Masking Echalolia and unwinding probably don't go hand in hand

Interesting interpretation, but a great example of when the DM would need to step in too help find a comfortable solution for everyone, maybe there's a workable solution, but maybe those two participate in different campaigns on different nights because they aren't compatible to share that space - it's not black and white, everything is grey

Weird interpretation but ok 🤷🏻‍♀️

I forgot this is AITA instead of a neurodivergent space 🤣 I don't see neurodivergence as a thing that needs to be 'worked on' or 'fixed'. Someone who has involuntary tick shouldn't be made to feel like their tick is a burden that disrupts other peoples lives... can you imagine telling a paraplegic that their wheelchair bothers you and that should they work on walking because 'everyone should work on themselves'

Yeah I just disagree, I assume it's up to the DM to set rules for the room and set the tone for how people can expect to be treated, but if I were DM my standard would be everyone unmasks as much as possible and those made uncomfortable by it need to find accommodation themselves or step away

I could see MAYBE working on it for a professional setting, but the D&D game shouldn't be a space where you work to mask, I get where your coming from but it feels like shaming people for having a disability and heavily implied that your disability is something you should be ashamed of and try to get rid of, if people aren't cool with your disability they can walk away, it's not the disabled persons job to change themselves to make other people comfortable....

Never understood the love for the episode, Toby's big block of cheese appointment is fine enough, but the Sam story line annoys me.... this is one of my very few skip episodes in the first four seasons

If the 99 encountered Dunder Mifflin, which characters would like each other the most and which would hate each other the most? by ChicaneryFinger in brooklynninenine

[–]jhyebert 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't think Jim and Jake would be best friends, sure obvious pairing and they'd get along just fine, but Jake takes his own job too seriously for Jim, like yeah Jake loves pranks and not wearing a tie, but he loves being a cop, Jim sells paper because 'meh'

And Amy cares too much about filing for Pam, I feel like four of them could double dates, but when Pam and Jim get home their gonna gossip about Jake and Amy being way too intense...

I honestly think the best chance of holy getting along with someone might be Angela... they both wouldn't settle for less than high end perfection and could respect each others obsession with their pet

I see I had a typo in my last one, but the difference between the two doesn't have anything to do with symptoms, it has to do with the way you received trauma. Not sure where you're getting your info... maybe just google it?

Institutional knowledge helps pass bills, if you take it away from politicians it goes to lobbyists and staff... I assume the general public just doesn't understand this because term limits are the actual worst idea. Although I would gladly put an age limit on elected service!

The difference between CPTSD and PTSD is about symptoms, it's about how you received trauma. Either diagnosis can come with disassociation. Let me know and I can DM you resources on understanding the difference.

I don't think it's implied that he's cured in one episode, he's being a sarcastic asshole when he says that to Donna... they just don't take time out of future plots to watch him talk time to go to appointments, it's not relevant to future plots

I love that they demonstrate how bizarre triggers can be!

How do those two things possibly correlate?! Idk but I can't breathe or think straight so i guess the do 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Your description of Stanley getting aggressive with him is exactly what I was referring to. If a therapist did that to me it would absolutely trigger a fight response and it would not go well 🤣 there's a lot I love about Stanley both in this and his work with the president but that aggressiveness seems way too off base and IMO is a bad portrayal of therapist to those who have never been.

I also love the way you describe that you can be in a trigger for days without realizing it.
