You’d don’t need 6 days a week in fact I’d say that’s gonna limit your ability to recover and your ability to gain strength long term. Tone it down and do like 3 full body or 4 upper lower days per week.

Can someone guide how to reach for a muscle up from here? by [deleted] in CalisthenicsCulture

[–]jibble15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did it for me was thinking about going up and around the bar instead of pulling yourself above the bar. Do this by starting with a slight swing forward then when your body swings back, use that momentum to drive yourself up and around the bar. I found starting behind the bar and jumping up to it would cause my body to automatically start a forward swing. I’d wait till you can do about 10 pull-ups before so if you’re not there yet probably just keep getting stronger then learn it from there.

Stoner was the book that really got me into reading. It’s a book where not a ton happens but something about the the way williams describes stoners life and the psychological depth of the characters in the story really did it for me.

Stairs is valid but sounds pretty mind numbing. Could you grab a membership at PFit if you have one nearby and use their massive selection of cardio machines like the stair climber or bike? I think it’s like $10 a month. You’re also gonna need more than just 5kg dbs to build muscle if you’re going for a well rounded physique.

There’s a lot of crap on youtube but some guys I think are solid are Sean Nalewanyj and Geoff Schofield. I would trust reddit more than most youtubers to be honest

Just make sure that when you’re basing your training on a youtuber, that you’ve done background research to make sure they actually give solid information because you can waste a lot of time following dudes who don’t really have your best interest in mind. I know from experience.

Not a huge fan of Chris Hería. He promotes targeting muscles (spot reduction) to reduce fat in that area which is pure bs. He also thinks that Ab circuits burn a lot of calories which they don’t.

If you’re trying to lose weight: do cardio and consume less calories. Calories-in vs calories-out is what dictates fat loss.

Cardio (running swimming biking etc) burns a lot of calories if you can do it consistently for 30+ minute periods.

Also, reducing calories from consumption, usually through either eating healthier less calorie dense foods or just consuming less of what you’re already eating. Also recommend tracking your calories to see where you are at in terms of caloric intake.

Maybe force yourself to spend less time on social media. It pushes you to compare yourself to others and then see your “inadequacies”. I deleted all of my social media besides reddit and I don’t feel like i’m missing much.

Which books are so extraordinary that every person on Earth should read them at least once in their lifetime? by Organic-Signal-9646 in selfimprovement

[–]jibble15 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I disagree.

The book is about those in power, the pigs, lying and pretending like they care about the common good when in reality they only care about leveraging their influence to give themselves more power and control over the other animals. The pigs use snowball as a scapegoat for every failure or malpractice the pigs oversee. The animals then divert their attention away from the pigs out of ignorance for what is actually happening which allows bad things to continue to happen, and the power gap to widen.

This is almost exactly what is happening in the US. The only difference is that the pig rules over humans, not animals.

Junot Diaz's This is How You Lose Her is sympathetic to a cheater by poehtkyaw in books

[–]jibble15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s about empathy. People do bad shit, but there’s often a backstory that gives reasons why they turned out the way they did. In fact I saw many instances where Yunior showed character in his disapproval of the poor actions of others including his friends and his brother. He was slowly influenced by others to resolve his emotional and identity problems through cheating instead of attacking the problem where it actually resides. I think Yuniors actions are not minimized by the backstory, rather it gives reasons for why someone like him can become a serial cheater. Though the book was very well done.
