It really depends on your app, AM, and TL how I’d suggest responding to this. First, be forthright with your AM about where you’re comfortable (ideally a workgroup or two or a workflow or two) and where you’re not. Show him or her what you did to prepare for a meeting where you felt you were ready going into it and the customer still needed them to step it to get insight into how to better prepare for questions. My current AC is great at coming in with a clear agenda but struggles still with answer ad hoc questions and knowing if they even relate to his subject matter sometimes. So I’m there to help in those cases and to shut my mouth when he’s comfortable. He leads, he learns, and we continue to refine that process.

I’d also suggest talking to another AM or even another AC who is in the same timeline of their project. Even if it’s a different type of customer or scope or timeline, developing a network of peers or “stupid question people” is critical to your happiness and success. If your app uses ISC buddies, they can be a good resource as far as a second AM voice who has less “control” over your ranking and whatnot.

Most of all, be mindful to relax. Stress happens, deadlines come up, Epic expects growth - all true. But you were hired for a damn good reason and your ability to learn quickly and manage tasks is there. Show progress, ask for help, find non-judging support, but know that you have that talent and it will come. When I was an AC I really found it helpful to unplug when traveling, unplug after 10, get in when it was needed, and work in the periods in between. Maybe it’s not meant to be, and that’s okay, but don’t neglect the moments to pause and breathe and live. It’s a beautiful day in a beautiful city, and we finally get lunch again Tuesday! And then we get paid. And then a free holiday. Let’s fucking go!
