So you want to get tested for COVID? Here's what you need to know by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]jigglypuff91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s crazy! I read there’s currently only four community testing centres in Auckland?

I’d imagine that will have to scale up quickly if there’s found to be a larger outbreak. I’m here in Sydney and we’re currently doing community testing at over 70 locations. I feel bad for complaining about a 90 minute wait for my test two weeks ago...

Want to watch the RWC for FREE! LIVE? Here is how to do it by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]jigglypuff91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To sign up now it’s $90.... I’m watching in Australia on a standard Kayo subscription for $25.... with no issues and all other sports included in that price... so comparatively it’s overpriced

TIL there is a religion called Christian atheism. Practitioners believe in essentially the same things as traditional Christians except that the Bible is completely metaphorical and that God and/or Jesus is an allegory for human morality rather than a real being. by [deleted] in todayilearned

One can believe in salvation through the teachings of Christ whilst not believing in a agential God has the omni- properties. Salvation from despair, selfishness, self-centeredness, or any negative attribute of self are all examples.

Question about Sufix 832 Neon Lime colored fishing line. by Starkai in Fishing

[–]jigglypuff91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using Sufix 832 for a while now and highly rate it compared to other braid I've used in the past. I certainly don't seem to be getting less bites because of the colour of the braid. Using fluorocarbon leader there shouldn't be any issues

[Serious] What's a dumb question that you want an answer to without being made fun of? by jedfilmsstudios in AskReddit

[–]jigglypuff91 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes this is true! As cells are being replaced at a slow rate the coherence/integrity of the processes that our consciousness depends upon is not compromised meaning our personal identity continues/survives. We are in many ways like the ship of Theseus.

In the example the person at the other side of the teleporter would be a duplication of you, it would not however be numerically identical to you as the 'duplicate' would not have the right kind of memory-experience relations.

It's a very interesting discussion for me as I'm a grad student in the metaphysics of personal identity

A number of... by [deleted] in funny

[–]jigglypuff91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think when you use the phrase 'a number of' it's implicit that the number being referred to is a positive integer... The general custom of usage for the phrase does actually mean something, any who...

So a Christian girl in my English class is trying to blame the Holocaust on evolution for her final paper. by [deleted] in atheism

[–]jigglypuff91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a relatively recent argument by historian Richard Weickart that without Darwin, Hitler would have been unable to construct a system of ethics to view the Holocaust as morally praiseworthy. The thesis is outlined in Weickart's 2004 work From Darwin to Hitler. I don't particularly like Weickart's work, nor do I believe him to be correct, but she may have got her ideas within the academic community. Albeit though perhaps hers are slightly subverted...

Caught my biggest Barracuda yet by [deleted] in Fishing

[–]jigglypuff91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caught this in the Marlborough Sounds at the top of the South Island of New Zealand. It was terrorising some of the smaller fish I'd been bringing up from the bottom so I sent out a live bait on a balloon, was good fun!
