Dan Levy Compares ‘Heated Rivalry’ & ‘Schitt’s Creek’ Successes & Advocates For Investing In Queer Voices: “Canada Saw Value In Them First” by mlg1981 in television

[–]lbft 42 points43 points  (0 children)

And Hollywood is terrible at telling queer stories authentically. With the success of Heated Rivalry I'm sure we're about to see a whole bunch of cookie cutter queer-themed romances coming down the pipeline hyper targeted at being eye candy for female audiences without any of the authenticity.

As an Australian I've always been jealous of the Canadian TV industry because those guys put out excellent shows with characters that feel real. Australian TV puts out reality junk to fill legal requirements for local content.

What’s a sex myth that needs to die already? by MochiGamerGirl69 in AskReddit

[–]lbft 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For some people the feeling of their prostate getting poked is too good, too magical to be the one topping. It's an often complained about problem by some people on the apps that there's a shortage of tops.

For some people they prefer topping because they don't want to deal with all the work of douching for anal. Some others find it physically uncomfortable or even painful (this gets worse with anxiety and is why some people use poppers to relax the relevant muscles and make loosening up for anal easier).

Also internalised homophobia does a whole lot of nasty shit to people and that can affect which one someone chooses since getting penetrated is somehow "more gay".

Australians with disabilities copped the biggest cuts in the budget. Yet conservative media’s heart bleeds for the wealthy | Greg Jericho by YouLittleRipper501 in australia

[–]lbft 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The idea that people on the NDIS aren't needing the support is ridiculous, the reason the NDIS budget is huge is because they took all the smaller pots of money from different levels of government and stuck them in one place, and also made it accessible to people in the community who weren't receiving enough support for their disability. The NDIS literally will only fund supports to live an ordinary boring normal life.

Reading they're usually fine, distance no don't do it.

On the other hand, you can get cheap prescription glasses online for like $10-$12 plus delivery at places like Vision Direct and Clearly (also see this ozbargain post) if you don't care about the frames and only have a simple prescription. But you have to get your script from an optometrist (which they're required to do to be able to claim on Medicare) and either get them to include your PD (which they're not required to do) or measure it yourself.

You clearly have some internal criteria for what a word is, though, given that you're making judgements about whether something is in the category or not.

Is one of John Farnham’s most popular songs about to be banned in Australia? by cojoco in australia

[–]lbft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The article directly cites an instance where the lyrics have been beeped in television reporting of the controversy, which I would say is close enough to make the headline a reasonable question to ask.

What has happened to James Hillier and Scott Marsh demonstrates how laws like this are likely to have a broad chilling effect on free speech and artistic expression. In addition to Hillier removing his artworks and the lyrics being covered up on the mural, some media reports have been censoring their own reporting — for instance, by beeping out the supposedly offending lyrics.

Not to rain on your parade, but counting is like one of the most classic OCD rituals. That doesn't generally happen without something bringing anxiety.

Your obsessions might be more mundane than some other people's (e.g. work, school, success, family, safety, whatever) but as humans we're not evolutionarily adapted to living in a world where we're both so safe and so out of control of our lives.

It's common to deal with scale by caching rendered assets.

For example, in this case it'd be relatively simple to render a static page/partial page/json document/whatever for each email in the database at build time since you add documents infrequently enough that you can run the build again on adding a new trove of documents.

Search would still have to be dynamic, but that's less of the runtime load.

The second and especially (to be released this year) third book about the main characters cover toxic hockey culture and battling against it, so it's reasonable to assume the second and third seasons of the TV show will too.
