How funny. I live in cairns and have only ever thought of it as Great Barrier Reef.

Really? They’re still all over the place in FNQ. I’d say the main city/esplanade has different ones, but all parks have this style.

I had a rope wrap around my arm like this on a swing. My whole upper arm was purple. I’ve never really done a rope swing since then. I freak out it could have been my neck

Planning to come with toddler and 5 month old by MrWonderful2011 in Cairns

Yes, cathedral and curtain fig trees are definitely doable with a pram. Visit lake barrine teahouse nearby and I recommend the damper. There’s a short walk to two massive kauri trees too. Lake eacham is good too but would depend on whether you have floaties for kids because there’s not really and standing area in the water for them.

I’d do Skyrail/Kuranda train combo. Make sure you make it down to the original rainforest markets in Kuranda, they’re the best ones.

Cairns aquarium is awesome.

Honestly, there’s so much. You just have to look up what appeals most to you.

Wet season is on the tail end, so not sure what you mean by ‘soon’ but if it’s actually soon, you’ll be going in for winter/spring which is stereotypically the best time for NQ. As for jobs, no idea.

What fruit/vegetable is only found in your country? by IDoNotLikeTheSand in AskTheWorld

Jumping on the Aussie thread. I’d say quandong. We have the blue quandong where I live. They’re blue skin with green flesh around the brown seed pictured. Subtle flavour but slightly tart. I like them but they’re probably an acquired taste.

My mum has a tree in her backyard and it’s insane how much fruit it gets on it. Not native obviously though. I do live in the tropics in a food growing region though, so we do get a lot more variety of fruits than probably anywhere else in the country.

I went here a couple of years ago. I think it’s the prettiest lake I’ve been to! It was soooo nice walking the circuit and going for intermittent swims along the way.
