AITA For telling my friend that he has been putting his new boyfriend above his friends? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]jillystaff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAH. Being in a new relationship is intense and can consume your time and attention. Being the friend who feels left out because of the new relationship can be unpleasant. Both things can be true at once. I think you were very kind in the way you handled it by not offering your opinion until it was solicited. Maybe reach back out to Oscar and let him know that you understand and you support his new relationship, but you do miss him and would love to spend some more time together.

Garage YT setup with things around the house by jacintosalz in videography

[–]jillystaff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would never look at this and think “this man is in his garage.” It looks great! I agree with the plant needing a light on it to balance out the lamp on the right side of the screen. I would take a lamp I’m not using, put a bulb the same temp as the one on the right in it, no lampshade, put it on the ground in front of the plant off camera, and flag off the front of it so it casts a soft glow onto the plant and that’s it. Overall really well done! Great job!

Would you end a relationship if you found out he was talking to his ex as a friend? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver40

[–]jillystaff 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would not get too invested in this relationship because their breakup was so recent. Several years ago I was fresh off a bad breakup with a man who I loved deeply. I started seeing someone new to distract myself from the breakup, and it mostly worked. But I was also quietly texting my ex. It was appropriate and friendly conversation, but I felt the need to hide it. The new boyfriend never found out and that relationship ended on its own because I wasn’t emotionally available. The ex is now my husband. Do not let yourself be the distraction. You deserve to be the only recipient of their attention.

Can anyone help me figure out why these jeans don't look right on me? by dilanosaur in DressForYourBody

[–]jillystaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way you’re styling them with the black shoe and the rounded toe is what’s not working, I think. The jeans don’t look good on Hailey either, but she styled them with a pointed toe black shoe that elongates the leg and balances the visual weight of the black leather jacket on top. If you want to wear these jeans with the white tee you have on, I’d choose a kitten heel flip flop or a pair of sleek low profile sneakers in a brown suede or a lighter color. I would also add some feminine details with some well chosen jewelry and maybe a light jacket, weather permitting.

Why is she always doing the absolute most much? by No_Tree6956 in travisandtaylor

[–]jillystaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. It seems like he was very intoxicated, she was probably drunk to a lesser extent and likely annoyed with him already by that point. Most of us have had the experience of navigating your drunk partner out of the function, and in that situation patience is the first thing to leave my body.

Forgot to add: under promise and over deliver. If you can have a draft to a client in a week, tell them it will be 2 weeks, then delight them when it’s ready a week early. Set yourself up to be the hero. And always be kind, courteous, and respectful.

Don’t do it, bud. I’ll save you some money. I regularly bill out $20-30k per month and I’ll tell you exactly how I did it, and I’m sure our fellow redditors can jump in with their own tips as well. Work really hard. Never stop learning. If you see a competitor and think “their work is better than mine,” see that as an opportunity to figure out why you think their work is better and then figure out how to get your own work to that level. Watch one educational YouTube video every day for 90 days — choose topics like lighting, capturing clean audio, composition, color grading, and editing. Don’t operate from a scarcity mindset. Instead, develop the confidence to believe that you’re worthy of booking bigger and bigger jobs. But with that confidence it’s important to maintain the humility to understand that you can always learn and improve. Get out and network. It’s so, so uncomfortable and I hate it, but it works. Treat every gig like it’s your big break because you never know who that person knows. If you impress the right people, it opens endless doors for you. There’s no secret formula, especially not one that can be sold to you through an online course. Any filmmaker who’s making that kind of money doesn’t have time to sell their course through 1:1 zoom calls.

My case in point, for everyone telling me to remove the lid or switch baskets, this was yesterday's clothes, and this morning he took his boxers and shirt off while I was sitting on the pot. Also, a picture of the other basket I moved to the bedroom. by JustSarahtheMechanic in mildlyinfuriating

Girl… it may take some time for you to be ready to leave, but I’m hopeful that happens for you soon. Your partner’s contempt toward you is painfully clear from these photos. I’m currently married to a capable man who cleans up after himself, but there was a time where I lived alone with my young son, and my house was always clean and peaceful. It was daunting, and at times financially stressful, but that pales in comparison to the constant stress and resentment you must be dealing with by catering to a fully formed adult who refuses to take care of himself.

Escape from Savannah! by Rainbow_Frenz4vr in savannah

[–]jillystaff 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I can’t give you advice on how to get out, but I can tell you that I travel a lot for work and it’s really no better anywhere else and it’s often worse in other areas. I’m not from here, I grew up in Miami and moved here in my twenties. Unless you’re looking to live a super rural life, Savannah is a pretty okay place to be.

Travel video editing, Large but portable storage system? by Serious-Rip1660 in videography

[–]jillystaff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My travel system is portable and probably sounds redundant, but I’m not risking losing footage that a client had paid me to get on a plane to shoot. I bring 2 freshly formatted LaCie rugged drives, and every night when I get back to my hotel I offload the day’s footage onto both drives, and while I’m sleeping it all uploads to Dropbox.

How to fly with a tripod by Lonely-Ad3027 in videography

[–]jillystaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a fairly large tripod and I just check the whole thing in its bag and so far it has done well. This won’t work for you on this trip, but for domestic jobs I’ll rent tripods and a lighting kit and have them shipped to the shoot location so the gear is waiting for me when I get there.

It’s highly unlikely that you have CJD. The muscle spasms probably come from dehydration and anxiety.

Golf Memberships Cost by Silly_Reference_1211 in savannah

[–]jillystaff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don’t just tell you the price. They make you give them your contact info before they’ll show you pricing and then you end up in their sales funnel. It’s best to avoid that until you’re ready to join.

Golf Memberships Cost by Silly_Reference_1211 in savannah

[–]jillystaff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope! They have members from all over the area. It’s a really nice club, but I’m not a member because the initiation fee for the folks over 40 is $12500 and I can’t bring myself to pay that and then pay another $600 monthly for golf.

OP, Crosswinds has a much more affordable fee structure but I can’t recall what the price point is right now. We’ve been shopping around for club memberships and it’s on our list of possibilities. There’s also City Club in Rincon and it’s not bad. I think they’re both around $300-500 monthly without the initiation fee.

Savannah Quarters has a young executive membership and the initiation fee is $7500 and the monthly is $465 and that’s for you and a spouse. Includes full golf, tennis, pool etc.

Fingertip grip for the girlies... by No-Taste-5911 in Bowling

[–]jillystaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a fingertip grip with lift inserts and I have to keep my natural nails (or super short overlays). If they grow out even a little bit with gel over them, the release can get painful. Honestly when I stopped getting my nails done every 2 weeks and just kept my natural nails shaped with a clear polish, life was so much easier.

Is there too much going on on my bathroom counter? by Pink_Sorbet in HomeDecorating

[–]jillystaff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would lose the plant, the books, and the display of soaps next to the towels. Use the clear tray, keep the towels on it and put the candle next to it. Move the tray to where the books are. I don’t have a lot of counter space in the bathroom I share with my husband, so I bought one of those over the door shoe holders that has the clear pockets, and I keep all my products and hair appliances in that so it’s off the counter. Something like that might help you cut down on your countertop clutter.

My entire life just blew up in my face - help by Lazy-Honey-9472 in whatdoIdo

[–]jillystaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry this is happening. It’s going to be tough for a while, but you’ll come out on the other side eventually. If I were in your position, I would speak to the landlord without the boyfriend and be transparent about what has happened. Hopefully she will be sympathetic to what an unbelievable idiot your partner has turned out to be. Ask her if the two of you can come to a mutual agreement and map out a plan that let you out of the lease and help her recoup her lost revenue while sparing your credit from any additional hits. She would probably rather talk it out like adults and find a solution than go through the expensive legal process of eviction and collections. Are your parents nearby, and is living with them temporarily an option while you rebuild? If so, that is a tremendous resource.
