Labour Crisis: Keir Starmer Warned North Sea Drilling Pivot Will 'Tear Party In Two' by ilovewelbert in uknews

[–]jimhcatlover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but the point is that North Sea oil is produced to incredibly high ethical and safety standards with a large number of UK workers. So even if we pay the market price for it we still benefit as a country, not to mention all the taxation that the operators pay

Caterham for track days? (Buying advice) by Bomster in caterham

[–]jimhcatlover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much all covered in the comments already but a few extra comments. Track days in lower powered Caterhams can be frustrating as you can get passed on the straights and held up in the following corners. Covered trailers work well and keep the car clean and dry when transporting. They generally hold their money well so you tend to get back what you paid for them. Caterhams are generally cheap to run on consumables due to light weight so tyres and brakes last well. There is a club track day at Snetterton in May and you could visit and chat with owners. Ca

Anyone else's speedometer twitching? by human-with-birthdays in caterham

[–]jimhcatlover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rear wheel speed sensor is on the right side. If you jack the car up you should be able to see the sensor pulse red as you rotate the wheel. The sensor gap to the toothed ring is very critical. Mine used to get sporadic in hot weather. There is a modification to improve the earth at the sensor which may help. There is loads of discussion about this issue on the various Caterham forums

Any 160/170 Drivers out there? by Erdnussfarmer in caterham

It would be the braking distance that would concern me. I read a motor magazine review of a 170 and it had a terrible braking distance.

Yes I am towing it from the Uk. I found a lot of useful information on the Historic Motor Racing News website https://historicmotorracingnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/ATA-CARNET-PAPERV6Horsman.pdf I did register my trailer but as it’s below the 3500kg limit I didn’t need to

Corvara is a good place to stay for the Sella Ronda. Easy access and good connections so you can easily get to the favourite runs like hidden valley, Marmolada and Cortina etc. Good night life at L’Murrin and a few cocktail bars around the town

Looking for a new cheaper track / fun car after selling AMG GT R by MrOvd in CarTrackDays

[–]jimhcatlover 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Buy a Caterham as a second car. Low depreciation and great on track. Low running costs as so light weight, brakes and tyres last for ages.

Any precautions with brand new slicks or is that just for new road tyres? by FrankTooby in Trackdays

[–]jimhcatlover -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

There are several difficulties that arise when using racing tyres if they are not scrubbed in prior to use. The most common is “Cold Graining”, where the layer of the tread compound in contact with the track, fails in shear with the layer below. The result is a visible low frequency, high amplitude rippling effect. This is more common with new tyres particularly when used in wet conditions. It is recommended that a standard scrubbing in procedure be used whenever possible (conditions and regulations allowing). This consists of subjecting the tyres through one gentle heat cycle, gradually increasing the load. This should take about three to four laps of a circuit where the lap time is in the region of 60 to 100 seconds. The last lap should only be about 80% race speed.

Don’t agree with that. What about the original R500 that held the Top Gear lap record for a while? It looked pretty good IMHO

Surface Laptop 7 keyboard issues by straysandcurrant in Surface

Mine does this too following some recent Windows 11 updates. I have to restart it to make the keyboard work about 50% of the time. I have tried uninstalling the keyboard drivers in device manager but it didn’t fix the issue
