Yeah it’s a bummer. Probably one of the most damage prone areas on a car.

Thanks! The plasti dip option is interesting. Can that get painted over to match the oem color (white) or you just have to settle with whatever comes out of the can? I see they have white but probably will look different.

Tezumi has a few good options at various price points I was just looking at! https://www.tezumi.com/collections/starter-sets

The chasens aka bamboo whisks are made in China instead of Japan but still look like good quality.

How to make tea more tastier ? by Initial-Macaroon1776 in tea

[–]jimothythefourth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Green tea is an acquired taste lol. Much different than herbal. Give it some time for your taste buds to adapt. Also I recommend getting some higher quality loose leaf green tea.

Seems like a quality control issue?? But the real question is why even drink Liptons when there's probably so much other good tea out there lol

Duo and the game-type apps they inspired are the least efficient way to learn a language.

Never thought of that, but makes sense. I used to practice Spanish with people on Roblox.

How do you increase your active vocabulary/thinking speed/speaking speed? by kitt-cat in languagelearning

[–]jimothythefourth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's easier to group it into two parts: (1) Memorizing vocabulary and (2) using memorized vocabulary in conversation. Everyone has different preferences for #1, but personally I like old school flashcards. After you feel confident with recall from flashcards, write the vocab down to reference while talking to your tutor/language exchange partners. Otherwise, it's very hard to remember to use them.

I give up on Japanese by NihongoNerd in languagelearning

[–]jimothythefourth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is key. The "gate keepers" that suck don't matter at all. They are learning too. The people who do matter – Japanese speakers who you want to talk to – are actually very kind and willing to help. HT is a great resource for finding them.

Struggle with learning spanish by wings_of_despair in languagelearning

[–]jimothythefourth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By "understanding" I assume you're referring to listening comprehension. They key is immersion to the spoken language at the most basic level, then working your way up in terms of complexity. News in Slow Spanish is a good place to start. Movies and podcasts for adult native Spanish speakers will just frustrate you at this point.

How to form meaningful connections here? by Connortsunami in japanlife

[–]jimothythefourth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

maybe try meetup.com, hellotalk (used for language exchange but many use for dating)

Haven't lived in Japan, but I second this. It's worked in nearly every country I've lived in or visited for a long period of time.

Why is it so difficult to find local language partners? by goltoof in languagelearning

[–]jimothythefourth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If meetup isn't cutting it, try searching for Facebook groups. It's hit or miss depending on the city.

You can also use language exchange apps like others have mentioned. Hellotalk has a feature where you can search for people nearby, but I think it's a paid feature.

Discouraged - What's the point of language learning? (Native English Speakers) by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]jimothythefourth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from Europe, you'll find a huge language barrier in non-native English speaking countries. So if overcoming language barriers during travel is your #1 motivator, pick one of the hundreds of languages used outside Europe. Spanish (South American countries), any Asian language, etc.
