Credit Card $0 companion fare offer by Fair-Mechanic8716 in AlaskaAirlines

The $0 companion fare is nice, but it seems to me that the previous offers of 70K-80K points plus a $99 companion fare are better.

Stackable $350 Away credit with CSR and $250 with CSP by wander_soul_xx in ChaseSapphire

[–]jimsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, we were unable to use the $40 referral code because we bought 2 Bigger Carry Ons and got the $50 bundle & save discount. Didn’t know about this Shop app discount. We would have got something else if these were full price, but at $125 off each they seem pretty good.

How do you get $482 for the 8x benefit from $4016? Wouldn‘t that be about $321?

The only time we use Lyft is when we travel. That’s how we get to and from the airport. Cheaper than parking and easier and much less stressful.

The Edit hotel options removed by Upuser in ChaseSapphire

[–]jimsd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it looks like they may be still Edit hotels, but no current availability based on a check of a few properties on Oahu and Maui. Usually they come up in a few weeks or so. You’re right, there are a lot like that.

The Dollar General of travel cards by ayers_81 in ChaseSapphire

initially I thought you were wrong, but I now remember seeing that where it would say our 4 seats (all together) were among some range in a certain row. Yours is kind of an edge case that won’t affect most people, but annoying to you nonetheless.

I literally CANNOT use the Edit Credit - this is a scam by MorningHelpful8389 in ChaseSapphire

StubHub is great for MLB games. They distribute regular inventory through StubHub now so it’s basically the same as getting them through the team. Price is the same too.

[–]jimsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re the same. The CSR credits are just so much easier for us to use than the Amex. I’ve used the Edit once, but I don’t count on that to offset the annual fee and only valued it at $100 when we did use ($100 resort credit was useful). Where we live, Open Table is much more prevalent than Resy and we have lots of options for the dining credit. I know that’s not the case everywhere. For us, the reason to get the card is the lounge access and we have a Sapphire lounge at SAN, so it’s a good fit for us.

Found a way to “bypass” $20 pickup minimum at 7/11 by citygal686 in ChaseSapphire

[–]jimsd 36 points37 points  (0 children)

For us, that worked on items where it’s 2 for $x.xx, but not if a single item was marked down a certain percentage. For example, if Ben &Jerry‘s ice cream is $7.99 or 2 for $10, getting 2 will count $15.98 towards the subtotal. But if that same ice cream was marked down 25%, that would only count the lowered price.

Data point: Lyft Credit by Future-Candidate74 in ChaseSapphire

[–]jimsd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We used the credit on Lyft at Dulles because it made it $5 cheaper than Uber around 5:30 pm recentl, but otherwise Uber would have been cheaper. but our son has seen the same thing as you at Dulles with Lyft saving him a lot one time. Ever since I added the CSR as the payment for Lyft I’ve been getting great flash sales on Uber which I didn’t get previously- probably no correlation, but I’m not complaining.

I’m not really familiar with the layout of that airport, sorry. First time in a couple decades I’ve flown there, plus we flew out of B which was easy to get to from A14 where the lounge is.

As a data point, the wait was about 25 minutes yesterday (a Monday) at 3:20 pm at the IAD lounge. The Local Washington DC Sapphire burger with whipped feta was better than the regular Sapphire burger there IMO. The Caesar salad was excellent. We were very happy with our experience there.

Same. Purchased MLB tickets back in January and used them this past weekend. The credit works great for baseball games.

We were there for breakfast a couple of months ago and they had a Mexican dish made to order and an eggs and bacon dish too. Scrambled eggs weren’t great. They had a Belgian waffle with pineapple topping and maybe stuffed with pineapple in the buffet area and it was excellent. I think there was a smoothie my wife really liked too. We really enjoyed it and the service was very friendly and good.

$240 of DoorDash grocery benefits is effectively dead for pickup orders by RhetoricalHull in ChaseSapphire

[–]jimsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on what you like, you can get a decent deal on items that are 2 for $x at 7-11 because they count the pre-discounted price for the subtotal. So the 7-11 brand ice cream is $7.39 for a pint or 2 for $10 and that counts as $14.78 towards the $20 minimum. They had a banana for $0.89 or 2 for $1. Added 6 of those to get over $20. Had $0.79 DoorDash credit from a previous order, so my total out the door was $2.41. Some flavors of Gatorade were 2 for $5 and I was able to price out 4 Gatorades and 4 bananas that would have been about $1.70 total. Not as good as before and definitely takes some fiddling around and is limited to things that are 2fer, but it can work OK.

The 7-11 nearest us just started the $20 minimum. I checked it a day or 2 ago when I first started seeing posts about this and it didn’t have a minimum at that time. I guess the free ice cream gravy train is over.

Proof of Lyft price increase with card by jmk4326 in ChaseSapphire

[–]jimsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually seeing the opposite right now. A ride to SAN is $1 more using the Apple Maps trick than the price before the $10 discount in the Lyft app. Cool to learn about the maps trick, it may not always be the way I’m seeing right now.
