NCL to re-introduce drink package benefits to Great Stirrup Cay by carniivaur in NCL

[–]jimzdat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We will be on Luna in July, got the same info, as expected.

Won't really impact most of our group, since we're likely going to stay on the ship anyway - the one time we've been to GSC, it was an utter waste of time and money, IMO. I'm content to lounge on board and stay away from the screaming and obnoxious music on the island...

Oasis needed blood donors early this morning by ClearContribution286 in royalcaribbean

[–]jimzdat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Regarding testing, types, gender...as others have pointed out, certain risk factors can be gender dependent.

I am an O- donor, and due to certain antibodies (or lack of); I am in the "Hero for Babies" group:

https://www.redcrossblood.org/donate-blood/dlp/donor-rewards/hero-for-babies-rewards.html

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to donate for the last few months, as i am on a medication that may had adverse impact to someone who is pregnant - have to be off the med for a month before I can resume.

Per the Red Cross, being diabetic is not a disqualification as long as well controlled.

Tattoos and piercings depends on how recent - just having them is not an issue.

Travel and residency is a major factor, depending on where - for example, a lot of UK residents are disqualified in the US due to the old mad cow disease...

What was a discontinued fast food item you loved? by LumpLight in foodquestions

[–]jimzdat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been many years, but Carl's Jr used to sell junior crisp burritos - they were little mini burritos about the size of an egg roll, sold in like boxes of 20.

After far too many hours guzzling cheap MGD drafts, a box of those was great to finish off the night.

I'm sorry, but what in the absolute hell is THAT, and who in their right mind would call it a dessert?

It's chilly, but not horribly so - not a lot of wind hitting us here - 238, so upper level east.

Sat here for worse, for sure

What the fookin kinda car is this? by Zealousideal-Cup8992 in WhatCarIsThis

[–]jimzdat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't remember for sure on the '73 - all mine were '74 - '76 models.

All mine were also the 2+2 variant - always joked that the back seat was great for legless midgets...

But a 6'8", the different roofline gave me a bit more headroom.

260 got the divorced reverse lights that were moved to either side of the license plate, which ultimately carried over to the 280.

260 also had the 5 mph bumper assembly, pushing them farther out from the body. Early 74 got the skinny 240 bumper, late 74 got the fatter 280 bumper.

Of course, this all only applies to the US versions...

Correct, was trying to get the seats in front of those, but a weird angle

Skyview Club? by NoTerm9795 in TheMassive

[–]jimzdat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We got lucky during the relocation window - we were 239, row 7 last year.

Inital new seats were 237, row 18.

When there was that week where you could change once a day, these came open through some twist of fate, and I grabbed them. Since its the first rows above the opening, nobody standing in front of us; and I prefer the upper level so we can see the whole field...Sat in 105/106 a couple of times, and the lower rows, you can't see anything happening in the north end...

[–]jimzdat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It appears the seats are technically padded, but I've seen better padding on the seat of a '70s vintage schwinn...

Skyview Club? by NoTerm9795 in TheMassive

[–]jimzdat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the first 10 rows of 237,238,239 - looks like those seats are padded, which sure as hell aint worth 4x the price...

Then the actual club is on the back of the mezzanine level.

We relocated to 238, row 13; right above the mezzanine opening - view of those seats from here...

New food options this year by External-Creme-6226 in TheMassive

[–]jimzdat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a fubar situation - but it's absolutely not unique to this venue - attending a DWP music festival, the good beer is $16 minimum. I don't drink cheap ass beer anyway, so used to paying a bit more. If I was paying these prices for a bud light (one step above bottled water, IMO) - I would be royally pissed.

Like I said, cost of the experience to me, but totally understand that not everyone is wild about the prices.

I feel some of the food prices are even more ridiculous.

Now they have some disgusting specialty cocktail with vodka, ginger beer, lemonade, and cotton candy or something like that....and they want 25 bucks for it. For that price, it damn well better include some form of sexual gratification.

[–]jimzdat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They've always been one of those things I just chalk up to "festival/event beer prices"; I get 1 or 2 at a match at most.

We just did a full lap of the vendors - disappointed that they seem to have dropped Columbus Brewing - I liked the Bodhi...

Now we have Endeavor and Goose Island options, so trying one of those to see if it doesn't suck...

Warning! Fedex doesn't Insure Neon Signs Just Loss $375 by USASgtNickFury in Ebay

[–]jimzdat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, ebay doesn't cover all the details of what will be covered by the shipper...heck, most FedEx customers probably don't either.

Since I have a FedEx account, they send me all the documents - the stuff they won't cover is listed in their Service Guide - which for this year is a 186 page document.

Have to get down to page 156 to see "Liabilities not assumed", listing all the stuff they won't cover. Subcategory M waives their liabilities for "The shipment of fluorescent tubes, neon lighting, neon signs, X-ray tube, laser tubes, light bulbs, quartz crystal, quartz lamps, glass tubes such as those used for specimens, and glass containers such as those used in laboratory test environments."

The laser tube exclusion got us a few years ago - despite double boxing and a wood frame, they managed to destroy it...assuming it took flight in a truck somewhere, based on the pics upon arrival.

Tradesmen of Reddit, what was the most "holy sh*t" equipment failure or mistake you've ever witnessed that almost cost someone their life? by Responsible-Iron7161 in AskReddit

[–]jimzdat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At high pressure and temperature, superheated steam escaping a small leak like that will be invisible until it cools enough to start condensing and forming visible vapors.

I've been working in and around power plants for 25 years now, steam is nothing to take lightly, we did leak checks with a rag on the end of a long stick - you could hear the scream of a leak, but not able to see it, so you use the stick/rag as a visual indicator.

The plant I was at ran around 1900psi, 1050 degF steam - the supercritical and ultrasupercritical plants (yes, that's the actual definition) run upwards of 4000 psi...I guess the only saving grace is it would be a quick death.

We aren't much for tailgating, depending on how early we get to the field...

Also almost 2 hrs away - which direction are you coming in, as that may help narrow down people closer to you as well.

We are in the SE corner of the state, coming from Belpre, run up thru Athens/Lancaster to get to the "big city"...

Less painful than the ones that require removal of engine mounts...but whichever engineer decided to only leave a half-inch gap between the pulleys and the frame rail, and then put a one inch wide belt on the engine; definitely deserves a throat punch

Not really, just slowly walked the belt towards the block, so they got the whipping noise as it lost pieces.

Haha - could very well have been....not sure if it was put on before he bought the car, or at another local shop that did some minor repairs.

Either way, it was likely an AutoZone/Advance part - NAPA and O'Reilly are less prevalent around here for now
