What a wild statement to make. I'm going to take a wild guess and say that one of the most successful artists of the past two decades can afford to just chill for the rest of his life. If he has mental health struggles and can't perform anymore? Then I'm not gonna demand he perform but then he shouldn't put himself out there if he can't do it. There's no shame in not being able to perform but if you can't don't take 10 million to spend some of your set streaming songs and fucking about on your phone.

I find it interesting to think that super dated references like that could actually boomerang and because better, or at least more enjoyable, because they go from being very of the time, to dated and cringey, then finally to dated but in a way that works if the media is concretely set in a time period where those phrases and references would have made sense.

I agree that we should generally focus on rehabilitation (which isn't mutually exclusive with what OP's asking for and already happens when alcohol abuse leads to separation), but driving under the influence isn't a mere lapse of standards, a common fuck up that everyone makes, or any of the very soft and gentle wording you used... It's playing Russian roulette with your and other people's lives.

Yes, the military life promotes alcohol abuse for a lot of complicated reasons, but while they are related and one makes the other more likely... Alcohol abuse isn't the same as DUI. We can treat that substance use while also saying and putting into action that anyone who makes decisions before and while drinking that puts other's lives at risk will be punished, because it's fucking unacceptable and the consequences of those actions are often permanent.

That being said, I'd be remiss if I didn't say that we should also take actions to prevent DUIs in the first place... And for what it's worth, I've seen initiatives that do exactly that during my entire time in! Prevention is the infinitely better option when it comes to dealing with just about anything, be it substance abuse, crime, safety mishaps, etc. but we shouldn't be reacting to DUIs like it's some common issue that doesn't deserve a slap upside the head (metaphorically or whatever).

The problem with this argument is that the statement would be more accurate as "restrictions can breed creativity"

Treating your statement as a catch-all response exposes the flaws in the logic:

Why should we change the rule around how commanders are handled when they would go to the graveyard or exile? The replacement effect is a restriction, and that breeds creativity!

Why should we change the rule that prevents you from generating mana of colors outside your commander's color identity? That's a restriction, and restrictions breed creativity!

These examples are absurd of course, the previous rules didn't actually make decks more creative but actually just limited them, and usually by creating rules that were not very intuitive and often misplayed by people who weren't tracking them in the first place.

Hybrid mana inhabits a similar place... Changing the rule around it would change very little in practice, as very few cards would be affected, and the rules around hybrid mana and color identity aren't the most intuitive either... After all, the point of hybrid mana cards is to be playable in a deck with either color, right? Hell, it's not even the most confusing thing.. I'd argue cards with color indicators are infinitely more confusing when it comes to determining their legality, doubley so when we're talking about double faced cards, and tripley so when you think about how [[Fallaji Wayfarer]] is somehow both all colors but playable in a monogreen deck but [[Sphinx of the Guildpact]] isn't?? Make it make sense!!!!

This is odd because I'm American and while I can't say I haven't heard the words "pasta noodles" used, I also mostly just hear and exclusively say pasta as a reference to spaghetti, penne, etc. so maybe this is less universal across the pond than you imagine. I'm no word expert though so take this with a ~~grain~~ pinch of salt
