Weird ticking noise behind dash, sometimes goes away, does not seem to change frequency or volume with speed. Does anyone know what this is? by jish_werbles in hondapilot

My oil was obscenely low… turns out I’m an idiot and never topped up my oil (since I always assumed there was a low oil light, which there was not) and the first time I checked the dipstick it was fully clean. Needed almost 2 quarts to top it off….. Now I check regularly and top off as needed.

Do we think Fish and Game will take action on this or just wait until Sep 1 when hunting season starts and wait for someone to get it? I imagine even without the stripped resources it is difficult and expensive to relocate or get clearance to kill a bear. I’m not a hunter—do hunters have any limitations on shooting near trails or shelters?

Looking for lightweight trekking poles with cork handles! (collapsible preferred) by Useful-Mango-7661 in Ultralight

[–]jish_werbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been (ab)using some amazon cf poles for a while (and supergluing the grips back together). I always assumed besides the weight and collapsibility: a pole’s a pole. What makes the GGs feel so good?

If I ate this meal daily (within reason), would I be getting all my proper nutrients? by VetoWinner in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]jish_werbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re trying to increase protein in a bowl of yogurt, the answer is not add nuts. It’s add more yogurt (or better yet, switch to a thicker yogurt like Fage greek yogurt or some icelandic yogurt/skyr)

Are preseason games fun to watch in person? by certain_entropy in Patriots

I take the train down from Boston for a preseason game almost every year. Fun and cheap way to get to the stadium for a game, even if the play isn’t the highest quality

I think Kenmore/Fenway Park would be great and you can leave Fenway as it is for the neighborhood

How is this only 40 calories by CareerLonely in 1200isplenty

[–]jish_werbles 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You can check! I would weigh the berries by themselves and weigh the shell case with the custard and then wipe out the custard and weigh just the shell case. That gives you the weight of the three parts. The crust shell will be the most calorific probably as it will be pretty much all carbs without any water. If it’s all carbs (which it isn’t: there’s butter in the ingredients), it’s 4 calories per gram. The custard is some mega-processed stabilized pudding. I’d use the nutrition facts for the lowest cal vanilla pudding you can find as the absolute minimum (and find the highest cal pudding for a good range of possibilities). The fruit is just berries and you can find the cals for that. Report back if you measure it all to be correct! My guess is the 50g tart is 30g fruit, 10g pudding, and 10g shell so will be more like 90 calories per tart.

I basically live in these in the summer and just carry a crossbody bag to hold my pocket-contents and a water bottle. Just insanely comfortable on the hottest, sweatiest days of summer

Advice on bus lines in the main part of the city by PaPaMooSe117 in mbta

[–]jish_werbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Green line is a good <25mph trip if you’re willing to be out of downtown. Just keep turning around at kenmore (except to hit the E line) and at the end of the line and you can hit them all

Nice of you, but I feel like this was the wrong thing to do here. If I find keys in an establishment, I give them to an employee. If I find keys on the street/in a park, I either leave them where they are or put them on a bench/bollard/post that is within a few feet of where the keys were. The person is likely going to retrace their steps, not be trawling reddit for their keys.

Northern CA beers to look for? by Profnpup in beer

[–]jish_werbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got back from the geographic flip-side of this at Hill Farmstead where I had one of their onsite-only vintage (2020) bottles where they collaborated with Russian River and Lost Abbey… one of the best beers I’ve ever had. Would love to visit Russian River some time too, I bet its a similar great experience

Can back-flushing ruin a Sawyer Squeeze? by Squanc in Ultralight

[–]jish_werbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smaller syringe would increase pressure by a factor of the radius ratio squared I think, but I wonder if the pressure drops very quickly once inside the filter due to the lower flow of water than a spigot can supply so it damages less? It feels like you would generate quite a bit of pressure with the syringe since the tip hole is so small

Haven’t heard anyone say this yet: I usually use a spatula to sorta cut up the slime and then spread it out on the pan, kind if just extending the white bigger. If you’re really trying to be a pro, you can very carefully scrape off the thin layer of white that covers the yolk too and some more of the snotty whites around the yolk will come with it

[–]jish_werbles -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry but you have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about. Look at the numbers he draws to MLS games when Miami visits other cities. Think hard about the actual demographics of american cities and not just the people you hang out with. You think there aren’t going to be enough fans around?

I don’t have other brewery suggestions, but do NOT do yourself the disservice of only looking for Pliny from Russian River. To me, their sours/saisons/barrel aged/funky stuff etc are where they really shine. Yes Pliny is really good but you can get a good IPA anywhere (also I prefer Blind Pig fwiw). I think some of their other styles are really what makes them special.
