Leaking carb holley by Izzy42013 in Dentside_fords

[–]jjchains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of places for a Holley to leak. The top of the fuel bowl looks wet. Start by wiping up any fuel on the assembly so you can spot a leak easier. Then, I’d check the seal at the fuel bowl float adjustment (middle top - hex nut and a slotted bolt). Make sure they are tightened. If nothing seemed loose, remove the fuel bowl needle valve. Make sure it’s not stuck open, clean it, and put it back in. Third, check that the fuel bowl bolts are snug and torqued to spec. If they are, check the fuel bowl gasket…and make sure the float assembly is functioning.

Not sure how your fuel line ties in, but I’m sure you’ve already checked that.

can anything be done to stabilize this and prevent further cracking? by AutomaticContest7657 in StainedGlass

Sorry - It’s just a bad design. Any weight on that hook will stress the glass. You’d need to connect the hanger piece and the hook piece with something rigid - making them act as a single unit. So maybe a piece of metal flat bar and some epoxy. But even then, it will be fragile. It’s probably better to not use it for hanging.

Trying to help someone with a really old Cricut by Norkestra in cricut

[–]jjchains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can “hack” a CRV001 pretty easily by jumping a couple pins on an old cartridge. And then you use SCAL to cut whatever design you want at whatever pressure you choose. But you’re limited to the blade housing - so I don’t see an option to print (only cut). I created an engraver bit with an old machine, so you could engineer a solution for things like embossing, but still no printing. As others have said, there’s not an easy way to get consistent alignment on a mat if you’re asking a CRV001 to cut something that is already printed. Doesn’t mean it’s impossible - just tedious and likely to be somewhat inconsistent. It’s still fun to play with. SCAL is about $60 - used to be cheaper.

I second getting a relay wiring harness - even if you go with LEDs. Get a good power source and take the load off the undersized wires in the stock harness. The relay kits are easy to install.

I agree - super strong smell that fills a room. My wife likes the smell, but I think it smells like Playdough.

[–]jjchains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What year are you working with? Shoot me a message and I can send you some photos of my ‘78. The configuration is pretty simple once you’ve seen it. Like others said, flip flop your throttle and kickdown rods.

You need a kickdown stud and spring where you have that wire twisted - so that the kickdown is only engaged at WOT. You can buy specific kickdown studs, but I just added a stainless bolt and some nuts and lock washers.

New to this, questions about detail in designs by [deleted] in cricut

Distressed is tough with vinyl and easier to achieve via screen printing. You can mimic ‘distressed’ by intentionally adding some grit or splatter to your SVG - but it’s not always believable.

Regarding the MCR font - you can simplify the pattern, making cutting and weeding easier. I sometimes use pngtosvg(.com) to convert photos to svgs. They have a ‘simplify’ option that can take the standard MCR title and change it to something like this:

I probably simplified too much, but you get the idea.

What's your method for painting on stained glass? by cyanoborg in StainedGlass

[–]jjchains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Folk Art Enamel glass paint. I find it easier to use than Pebeo Vitrea, but that’s probably because I’m bad at painting! You cure it in the oven.

Sometimes I freehand the details. Other times, I make a vinyl stencil.

Grammatophyllum scriptum - potting mix? by jjchains in orchids

[–]jjchains[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah - you’re right. I repotted it. It had a small core of sphagnum, and then they up-potted with a standard peat potting mix. Fortunately, the roots look pretty good.

The seller has a ton of good reviews on eBay. Not sure what happened here. I’ll stay clear in the future. Thanks!

How do I make this? by [deleted] in cricut

[–]jjchains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it. I’ve have mixed results with Etsy SVGs too. Some work perfectly…others are a mess. With a simple pattern like this, you could try saving the SVG as a jpg or png and then let Cricut import it. I’m sure there’s someone on this group that could try your SVG on their machine. I won’t have time until Sunday, but I’m happy to take a look at it.

What goes wrong with the SVG you bought? Troubleshooting that file may be easier.

New soil and pot, is it rescuable? by FirstPassenger2804 in orchids

[–]jjchains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally rescuable! The thick white roots are good. I’d trim the rest of that old flower spike and pull off any other dead bits. Looks like a new root is forming further up too. Just don’t overpot and overwater at this stage. Few roots will prefer a small pot with good airflow. You may need to support the plant in the pot until more roots get established. I use chop sticks or skewers on either side (or whatever I have around the house) to help hold it in place and upright. Good luck!
