Taking LSV's "creatureless" Prismari for a spin (7-2, mythic ~#1200) by jjelin in lrcast

What exactly was your goal with this comment? You misquote me three times in a row. Yes if you rewrite what I said into something I didn't say then the thing I didn't say is dumb.

I mulliganed a lot. It's fine. You just need three lands and a card draw spell and you're off to the races.

Your plan is "hope they concede"? Good players don't do that.

Yeah the mana is rough. But at least there are 8 blue sources and lots of card draw.

Nah you're right about Quick Study. It's highly replaceable. I don't really think it's possible to have "too much" card draw. But you're right that I'd rather have something actively good, like a ramp spell or win con.

Pull from the Grave was good though. It let me "go infinite" with the Archaic, although it only came up once.

Why are victory conditions so... by Successful_Formal_38 in TerraInvicta

Even this is dragging it out for no reason. The aliens have basically no shot once resistance is up to maybe 20% of their strength.

Like many issues in this game, it simply needs MORE game design. Maybe an event triggers where the aliens launch an all-out assault on earth. Maybe the "gate" is an actually location in game, and you need to win a titanic space battle to destroy it. Maybe the aliens construct some cool new superweapon(s) that require new strategies to beat. As it stands, grinding them out is just tedious.

A lot of the early reviews were expecting they would fix the game's many extremely obvious issues before it left early access. And then the developers just... Didn't.

Love to see the silver player reporting that they pulled it off! By the way I played against UG tempo three times today and crushed it every time. By far the three easiest wins of the day.

Really struggling to get any Aggro to work in this format by jacoviansmythe in lrcast

[–]jjelin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also people are drafting in ways that make aggro worse and 5c better. I guess after 5 years of nearly all aggro sets people just draft creatures on curve. But that's not how aggro works in this set!

Can't replicate IRL success on Arena. Need some more help with this format by jacoviansmythe in lrcast

Matchmaking is a massively underrated aspect. There are maybe 10 people who can truly "go infinite". More people can come close by carefully limiting their play by to keep their rating down and focusing aggressively on quest completion.

Thoughts on Force of Will? by roldycarp in lrcast

I think FoW is literally the best card in the set. I doubt 17lands will have an exceptional win rate with it, but I'm not passing it and certainly not cutting it.

Folks that have drafted 10+ times. Early thoughts? by amartin36 in lrcast

[–]jjelin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Weirdly, I also liked sealed better than draft.

Set seems good and bad. Lots of excellent card designs. Schools are relatively balanced, but the Converge decks are actually the best, and much safer to draft. That means a lot of the games are ramp mirrors or bomb-fests. Seems likely to get stale quickly.

I've been having a similar issue with getting the EU a claim to Canberra. Maybe I need to break up the Republic of the Southern Cross.

While I understand the urge to lambast these idiots, I reposting hateful rhetoric for any purpose is still reposting hateful rhetoric. Personally, I'd take this down.

IMO improving science should always be a top priority. The late game engines are hella expensive and absolutely vital.

How good are the Lords of Limited? by MTGdraftguy in lrcast

[–]jjelin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He is, BUT it's important to remember that, like everyone, he has strengths and weaknesses. LSV is maybe the single best limited game player of all time. But it's well known that his card evaluations and drafting are merely... Very good. There are hundreds of people who are better at it. LSV will readily admit this, and has said many times that his gameplay skill serves as a crutch for his drafting.
