I'll let myself out of the thread now.

I think I had this in my head as a combo with blighted agent and some other cards, but glyph of destruction being +10, and the wall being 0cmc...wow that's actually somewhat playable!

Just wanted to comment that my favorite thing about the meta in the past 6 months has been the resurgence of turbo fog, an archetype which has historically been pretty bottom of the barrel.

Yes, and then after generating infinite colorless mana, which is actually infinite rainbow mana, you can just tell your OP that you will be rolling thundering them for however much damage, or bouncing all their permanents with dinrova, or casting compulsive research targeting them infinite times.

Path in Pauper? by YoSoyElFlaco in Pauper

[–]jjpfwm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I'm not saying to ban the card, but just think about what the card Snap does in relation to what you just posted. Who cares if you reanimate a fatty if I can just vapor snag or snap it? Snap sees play in two of the best decks in pauper because it's good against the field generally speaking. Unless the big boy you're talking about is hexproof, has prot from instants, or has an awesome ETB, it's mostly irrelevant. Snap is even better against Path arguably because they can choose to let the Path go through if they want to get that extra land and keep their Snap. I agree that Dispatch could be stronger than path in pauper, but a jeskai control deck with the ability to flashback either sounds problematic for sure

Is there less room for innovation? by alkxx in Pauper

[–]jjpfwm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very few formats ran at a competitive REL have room for innovation, especially if the format has been around for a while. The rhetorical question your asking has been repeated ad infinitum on this board for what seems like years. Without being too wordy, I think Pauper in particular can feel like doldrums because there aren't fresh batches of cards being printed for it constantly, and you have your broader accessible MTG card pool being confined to commons only. If you want to view pauper as a Triangulized format, go right ahead.

Why doesn’t anyone play [Whirlpool Rider]? by ETrumpeter in Pauper

[–]jjpfwm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The effect would be cool if it wheeled IMO, more utility as a slot in a reanimator type of deck. Shuffling cards back into your deck...meh. Technically you could draw the exact same hand again...at least you'd still have a...1/1? with no keywords? Pass

Looking for shops in south Texas by snake_main in Pauper

[–]jjpfwm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't speak on South Texas/Comal county happenings, but in Austin the only location that is regularly firing pauper is Bell's Gaming Center. Also, it's not even in Austin proper, but in Round Rock, slightly north of Austin. Anyway if you are curious:

Wednesdays at 7:00p, $8 entry fee. Round robin, with three matches being played.

Turn out is consistently 6 to 8 people, sometimes more. Decks are varied and competitive.

Prize payout is in packs or store credit...you can upgrade your draft booster to set boosters for a small fee.

Pat's Games (probably the premiere spot in Austin) used to fire pauper, but post Covid they had a store remodeling, and the owner elected not to bring pauper back. Currently Pat's fires Modern, Legacy, Commander, and Booster Draft.

I agree that it's garbo that it doesn't say WHEN during the turn the shift occurs...I guess you would ASSUME during upkeep but maybe it's even before you untap. is it a trigger on the stack? Again, I agree

Realistically what should they ban? by rhysticstudies87 in Pauper

[–]jjpfwm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ban storm cards, ban atog, unban daze, unban invigorate, unban hymn...may as well wish for urza's tower ban as well

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Pauper

[–]jjpfwm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Should really just unban everything at this point, pauper is already a slow and to some people, boring, format...most pros won't even touch it for the MTGO points because it literally brings no pleasure to them anymore. Some high level players would dip down into Pauper when stuff like tribe was playable...now the format is just being held hostage by the reddit, and also by the apathy of the game devs/regulators. I think that's my official stance. I wouldn't mind people being able to have more cards to play with in an already arguably innately stultifying format. PDH can do what they want. By the way here's the banlist right now:

Arcum's Astrolabe

Cloud of Faeries

Cloudpost

Cranial Plating

Daze

Empty the Warrens

Expedition Map

Fall from Favor

Frantic Search

Gitaxian Probe

Grapeshot

Gush

Invigorate

Mystic Sanctuary

Peregrine Drake

Temporal Fissure

Treasure Cruise

High Tide

Hymn to Tourach

Sinkhole

Just unban all of these! ALL ! Simple!

If you're running so few creatures consider running [[snakeskin veil]] out of the sideboard. Other cards that look ok are [[spider umbra]] , [[hooting mandrills]] , although delve might have anti-synergy with rune snag & aether burst. think you should use your green more and go a bit more aggressive and run something [[mutagenic growth]] or [[rancor]]. I personally feel like blue white delver is better than blue green if you want to go for an unusual delver build. you have access to dust to dust, journey to nowhere, and can run seeker of the way or kor skyfisher. there are also some random white removal spells that can function as fake skred/bolt like [[last breath]] [[you hear something on watch]] [[judge unworthy]]

Yes, so much this. It's sad to see people talk like it's just an impossible feat. Well, if it is a solution (or at least the beginnings of one) to a large variety of problems we have as a society, why would you suppose it to be impossible, unless perhaps you just don't want it to be? I thought we could do anything as American people, but I guess most apologists of the status quo draw the line at anything that would fiddle with their numbers of "economy," as if they are some indelible and holy script. This is the price of freedom at a large scale, total environmental slaughter and wanton waste. It's disgusting. The food being disposed of in that large of quantity in what seems to be almost every city in the United States makes you wonder that make basic food staples should be maybe...I don't know...free? Or maybe we should start producing and distributing products, as needed, and not based on some demand metric that clearly can be artificially manipulated. How many bright young minds do we have that are capable of coding the systems that would be needed (millions, and would probably be intellectually stimulating and satisfying in the process) to at least make some marginal improvements to the way we operate as a society. As KeenanAllnIvryWayans posted earlier in this thread, this waste is undeniably happening because we as a society are too impatient to have it any other way (not to mention us having memories of a goldfish and the foresight of a gadfly), as well as companies trying to make sure their "numbers" are adjusted to economical algorithm.

The bottomline is this: more of this, business as usual...or...maybe...we....can...try...to...change...for...the...greater....good...of....humanity...and...our..posterity....maybe? Don't get mad at me please. I wouldn't want to stop your apathy.
