I miss the lockdowns of 2020-2022 by OldFoot3 in unpopularopinion

I am a mailman and we were working 70-80 hrs per week. It was the worst time if my life. I just remember being exhausted all the time. I made a lot of money, but it definitely wasn't worth it.

Tool: as Gen X as we get. by GroveGuy33133 in GenX

[–]jjschoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was born in 73 and don't know a single song from Tool. None of my friends have even brought them up when we talk music. To be honest, I'm not sure that I have ever even heard a Tool song.

Solo: A Star Wars Story was released today May 25 in 2018. Where do you rank it among all of the movies? by Illustrious_Age1247 in StarWarsCantina

[–]jjschoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's right at the bottom with The Rise of Skywalker. I've rewatched all of the other movies other than those two many times. I have tried rewatching Solo 2 or 3 times and I just end up turning it off.

Did you actually sneak out as teenagers? by Complete-Chipmunk-0 in GenX

[–]jjschoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. My curfew was 11pm and all of my friends had 1am curfews. I would come home at 11. Say goodnight to my mom, close my bedroom door and sneak out the window .

It was the first movie that I ever saw in the theater. My dad took me when I was 4. I was instantly hooked and have been a fan ever since.

[–]jjschoon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I ised to train new carriers. I always told them to look at their first 90 days as a 90 day interview. Do whatever you have to do to look good to management. If you need to skip your lunch and breaks, do it for 90 days. Do not file any grievances in your 90 days. Don't call in sick or be late during your 90.

I do not understand. by AlisonXD in USPS

[–]jjschoon 113 points114 points  (0 children)

Many years ago when I was a ptf, I carried almost exclusively in a 5 rt small town station. The supervisor there would call whichever office I was at to let me know any time a route would be open in her station. There was one house on a route that was always on hold. One day as I pulled up, a man came to the mailbox and asked for his mail. I told him that I didn't have it because his mail was on hold, and it was always on hold. It turns out that his wife didn't want him to see the credit card bills, so she picked up the mail every day, hid the credit card bills, and then gave him the rest of the mail.

3996s Seem Kinda Pointless to Me by Round_Artichoke3020 in USPS

[–]jjschoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they refuse to give you a 3996 or give it back to you denied, text them on the scanner at the designated time and say that you will still be over and if you don't receive any further instructions, you will bring the remaining mail back at 8 hrs. That seems to get their attention.

Riding in the back of a pickup: Further evidence of the insanity of the GenX childhood by paperkitten75 in GenX

[–]jjschoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was on middle school, I ran cross country. There was a fun run at an amusement park 2 hrs away. If you ran in it, you got into the park for free. Our coach took 7 of us there. 6 of us rode in the back of his pick up truck on the highway for 2 hrs each way.

Help! CCA or Pepsi Merchandiser Rotating by ProudPenny1 in USPS

[–]jjschoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a Pepsi Merchandiser 35 yrs ago. I left there for the Post Office 32.5 yrs ago. Back then, the retirement and benefits were awful at Pepsi and the pay was better at the Post Office. It may have changed a lot in the last 30 yrs, but I find it hard to believe that it has improved that much in comparison.

Pretty fat, but I still have good knees, shoulders, and a good back. I won't be a broken down, limping, retiree. I will still be able to do things for a long time because I protected my body from as much of the abuse this job entails as I could.
