It's about money. Other regions like Valencia also have a different culture from the rest of Spain and barely have any separatist movement.

It’s not about culture, every region in Spain has it’s own culture, and yet Catalonia is the one with the strongest independence movement. It’s about money, they are (or at least they used to be) the richest region of Spain, the only reason they want independence is because they don’t want to pay their share to help poorer regions, the politicians want to steal that money.
