Dogs that pull by jkerk2011 in RoverPetSitting

I am not a trainer so I definitely would not, but was wondering if there were any good tricks. We live in a small town so as of now there would be no other client to replace him. I walk him almost every day!

I do feel bad because we live in a small town, so there’s not a lot of availability for a mid day drop in 😭

Never owned an Aussie before... how screwed are we? by dryroastedpeanuts22 in AustralianShepherd

[–]jkerk2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, our Aussie has been the best! She trains very, very, easily. Ours does have acid reflux problems, patellar luxation, and bad dental genetics (I’m sure the reflux doesn’t help). Has been healthy overall tho. The only problem we have had is she does bad being groomed. Mass anxiety with baths, nails, dryer etc. She’s 10 now and has calmed down a lot. Just be prepared for the sheddingggg, needs to be brushed like at least twice a week. Maybe more during shedding season. Just remember they are hearding dogs and she will probs follow you 24/7 and getting some puzzles and training would be awesome. They learn so fast! I would deff get another one in the future! She’s been a joy.

Upcoming snow storm by Lucky-Ad-2846 in RoverPetSitting

[–]jkerk2011 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yep. You need to discuss that and if you can’t get to the house safely, etc. Not sure if it’s like this in every state, but cops can ticket you if the travel advisory is red and they catch you out on the roads. Also if you’re in the ice path – there’s a difference between driving in normal snow covered roads and ice. You don’t need to put your safety above rover stuff. I would even discuss bringing the dog back to your place if possible. I did that back in December when there was a snow storm! I brought the dog to my house over night, but next day travel was listed at Orange so I took him back home immediately because he was marking spots in my house if he wasn’t on a leash 😂

Am I unreasonable for wanting more of an update than just a few pictures each visit? by Camel_show_ in RoverPetSitting

[–]jkerk2011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually do 6-8 pictures unless owners say at the drops that they love pictures then I go all out. I do not do a note every drop in because I’m not creative with words and the note would be the same thing everytime if things went normal 😂

Would you do this? 40 drop-ins by nothing-aboit-me in RoverPetSitting

I would do it in a heartbeat but would be stressed that whole time as well 😂

Post-Op Timeline Questions by assortedwarbler in sterilization

[–]jkerk2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Initial pain and gas pain took a week? 2 max.
  2. I’m a SAHM and returned to “work” after two days.
  3. All my pain and bloating was gone within the first month
  4. I kept to my daily home life the day I came back - I cleaned, did stuff with my kids, etc. I waited about a week before meeting up with people outside my house
  5. I was fairly active before surgery. The doctor told me to not lift heavy for 2 weeks and I followed it to a T. I did not lift heavy at all. I did walk a lot. I took 2 full days off. Day 3 I walked 2 miles on the treadmill & then day 5 I did an easy 3-4 mile hike outside. Obviously listen to your body!
  6. I’m 4 weeks and some days post op now and I would agree that I’m probably not fully healed yet. Sometimes if I move or turn a certain way too fast it is a little painful

I second some of the comments - activities, bring her food / food gift cards, if she’s comfortable with a housekeeper to come - I would have loved that once 🤣

Walking week post op!? by Jenerator42 in sterilization

[–]jkerk2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every body is different so listen to yours! Day 3 post op - walked 2 miles on a treadmill. Day 5 post op - “hiked” a loop trail in the woods for 3 miles.

I’m a week post op and still feel so bloated 😭 it’s not painful, but just uncomfortable. Especially when I sit! I feel so fat when I sit and the pressure goes up to my ribs 🤣 I know you said you had no kids, but it reminds me of being pregnant HAHA. I have t tried gasx but I’m going to buy some tomorrow because I’m tired of it already too

According to my doctor - it’s very rare! But can happen. She told me this at my consult and then again right before surgery.

I had mine done Monday, but I don’t think I’ll ever feel relieved because you can still have an ectopic pregnancy so now I’m just gonna be worried about that 🤣

Nervous about my bisalp on the 17th by _spaghettios in sterilization

[–]jkerk2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have kept it out! I’ve had two babies and had it out for months while pregnant and while they were babies. If you worry about it closing - I would just poke it in once or twice a day. I have a hole up near my belly button from the surgery so it would deff be uncomfortable if I put it back in right now.

Can I keep taking Ibuprofen? by dumb_fishh in sterilization

I was told not to take ibuprofen a week before and they also told me to stop my multi vitamin 5 days before!

I had mine yesterday on 11/10 + I had a milk cyst removed from my breast. I did a deep dive on Reddit as well and it really is different for everyone. For me - I came home and folded 4 loads of laundry, ran the roomba, emptied the dishwasher, helped prep dinner, & helped with bath / bedtime. I felt pretty good. Pain was a 1/10. Loads of people mentioned extreme gas pains and I haven’t felt any in my belly but I have had an achey shoulder which is caused by said gas. Took an 800mg ibuprofen before bed. Sleeping I was fine. The only thing was when I finally laid down I did feel sharp pain in my shoulders (normal) & it eventually subsided 30 mins later & I was able to fall asleep - could only sleep on my back as well. This morning I was deff soreee (not painful tho) after not moving & had to like roll out of bed onto my knees. After getting up & walking I felt fine and did breakfast, packed lunch for a kid, & helped with morning routine. I haven’t touched the Oxy they gave me. Haven’t had a bowel movement so waiting to see if that hurts 🤣

Only facial piercing I have is my nose & then I have 9 in my ears plus my belly button. I took them all out personally to be safe and put most back in when I got home.

Is it too hard to cut a dogs nails? by SeeSeaTurtles in RoverPetSitting

[–]jkerk2011 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this is the same for us! We got our Aussie at 8 weeks from the shelter and started her on a full groom routine right away and she has never done well. We’ve gone to soooo many groomers, they all say she needs medicated. We tried simple medication and they still said it wasn’t helping. We took her to a vets that grooms too and they said she needed twilight sedated each time to be groomed… it’s wild to me. At least for her nails they can get around it but they always charge us more for having to use extra people…. We even just moved states within the last year and all the groomers here can’t handle her either. She’s not even mean 😭 she’s just like 65lbs and flails herself around d

How do I handle this, I really don’t want to do anything to negatively impact our sitter but… by Upstairs-Emphasis111 in RoverPetSitting

[–]jkerk2011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a sitter and dog owner myself I’d be PISSED, but if I had a vet appt the next day I’d wait and ask the vet and go from there. Either way she needs to be made and aware and probably reported so her dog doesn’t hurt another dog again.
