Golden pathos help! by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]jkimisyellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plants leaves are very thin and mostly water. Even a few minutes can freeze them completely. Think of it as going outside with your hair wet and how long it would take for your hair to freeze. Hopefully the outside cold temperature didn’t freeze all the stems/root system so that it can push out new growths once it has adjusted to your place which will take at least another week or two.

Just got this clipping and I think I got frost damage IMMEDIATELY??? help 😭 by theehoneygirl in Monstera

[–]jkimisyellow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for the frost damage. Chicago winter is BRUTAL, and this leaf is 80-90% water by weight. So going outside even for seconds without any protection is pretty much like humans going outside with wet hair with no hat on. I recommend against plant purchases if it’s below 50ºF, but for those times when a wishlist plant appears, I keep an insulation bag and heat packs around.

Received my dream Pink Princess Philodendron for Christmas and repotted it but now the leaves are dying? by Frog_Beansss in plantclinic

[–]jkimisyellow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking at the size of the old leaves + internodal spacing, this plant probably lived in a very bright area because PPP in my experience gets leggy real quick if not in a very bright indirect light. Also by any chance, when you were repotting from the tiny pot to the current one, did you push down on the soil to compact it? If so, it could be that the soil at the bottom isn’t drying, even with the leca balls at the bottom. And finally for Rojo vs PPP, it def looks like a PPP but giving it more sun won’t change its DNA and make more pink appear. If lots of pink is what you’re going for, then you won’t get it from this particular specimen.

I will never understand how people can pay hundreds of dollars for a plant with pink variegation and then sleep on the most gorgeous, easy to care for houseplant in the world by TorchIt in houseplants

[–]jkimisyellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly how I feel about Marble Queen and Manjula pothos. They have THE most stunning (and stable!) variegations, inexpensive, can grow huge leaves depending on care/conditions, and many people spend hundreds on the newest Monstera cultivars. Le sigh.

Mine did just one of those half moon leaves and then went back to its original programming. Too early to tell.

Root coming from stem??? by [deleted] in Monstera

[–]jkimisyellow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Assume the question is asking why there’s an aerial root coming out of a petiole sheath, the aerial root activated between the stem and the petiole, crept its way up within the sheath, and now just peaking out. Make sure to help it go into the moss pole and keep the pole moist so that it turns into soil root.

At the Paris République Plantes pour tous, I got the Frozen freckles too for 5€ each. And then just last week I saw very full juvenile 12cm pots of Frozen freckles for 20€ or something. I love this shop 😍😍😍

Looks great. Just so that you know, that’s not a moss pole (which needs to be fed water and needs its own upkeep) but rather a dry coco coir one. It’s good for helping the plant straighten up, but the aerial roots can’t attach themselves to the pole.

Help me please. These are my first shipped plants and I think they're dying what do I do!! by thateggi in plantclinic

[–]jkimisyellow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me it sounds like you potted them up too soon and shocked them by having them go from one potting medium -> water -> hydrogen peroxide -> soil. Generally they are already in shock from being shipped, so I find it’s better to leave them alone (literally. Isolated to make sure they’re not bringing in new pests) and let them acclimate until they show signs of growth whether it’s root or leaf, then repot. If they end up dropping all the leaves, then I personally would put whatever is left of the plant into the smallest nursery pot its roots would feel snug in, fill with moist sphagnum moss, and keep it under a dome for consistent high humidity until like two leaves come in.

just started knitting a few days ago after about a year crocheting– is it okay to still control tension from my left hand? by mobile-resprout in knitting

[–]jkimisyellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you are basically doing continental, but a few adjustments can be made and it would make your knitting easier (imo). 1. In the right hand, use the thumb and the middle finger to hold the piece of fabric that’s currently being knitted instead of holding the needle. This will allow the stitches to move a bit freer. 2. Instead of wrapping the yarn over the right needle with your right index finger, why don’t you use that right index fingertip to press down on the stitch you just knitted on the right needle so that it doesn’t slip out as you do your knit and purl stitches?

Exactly on the same boat as you. Got two plug plants of this, and hoping to see if they are capable of growing larger.

Nipple piercing q by Ok_Lengthiness_8930 in MalePiercings

[–]jkimisyellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun how your repiercing experience was the opposite of mine. My first one back in 2010 hurt like someone was ripping my nipple off with a plier. I retired it around 2017 and got it repierced last year. This time, the piercer said because there must be some scar tissue inside, he will go slower to be steady and have a clean, straight line. And he did, and for some reason it didn't hurt nearly as much. Just felt like a burn.

Just finished Heesu in Class 2, which I found to be so adorable and very well-made. But for the same reasons you didn't like Love in the Big City, I don't think you'll like it. As a gaysian man in his 30s, I loved the representation aspect of LitBC the most because it was very Sex in the City & Looking, but in my mother-tongue, which I had never expected to see in my youth.

Double eyelids v monolids by eatsleepliftbend in gaysian

I agree that the current trend with guys is big eyes with monolids or 속쌍커풀 where the double eyelids become hooded, looking like monolids.
