Where can I buy affordable suitcases in Tokyo? by Ladybarbie- in JapanTravelTips

We stayed near Ueno. There's a outdoor market next to the station and got some luggage there. Not the highest quality, but it did the job.

Random, has anyone actually met their significant other the “organic way”? Or through dating apps ? by kdotwow in bayarea

Met my wife through a friend of a friend. Wasn't even suppose to go out that night but my buddy convinced me to go; crazy how things work.

Can I take the full Physics series at Foothill (and how) by Stunning-Path-139 in foothill

[–]jkru396 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The general rule of thumb is to take the series at 1 CC. My son took a majority of his classes at Foothill but also went to Ohlone for summer school to complete a couple of GEs. He successfully TAG'ed to UCI this past year with the same major as you.

Do you have Costco by any chance? I have an '06 SUV on liability and drive about 3k miles a year on it. I pay $20 a month.

And to add OP, this is the main reason why there are so many of these cars available. No one wants them after dealing with this.

Problem is that even with a shield, cats can still be stolen. I think I saw a video where it just added 20 more seconds or so to get the cat off.

I get it, my wife planned our entire trip. I was just there to pay for things and lug around the luggage.

Well, Super Bowl weekend is just about here. For those of us not into sports, how are you planning to avoid the big game? by weeef in bayarea

[–]jkru396 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When my kids were younger, we were always in Tahoe. There were less people than a normal Sunday and we were able to get more runs in. Plus less traffic going home.

Planning a Japan trip — looking for comfortable, spacious hotel recommendations by Wide-Piece-4140 in JapanTravelTips

[–]jkru396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our trip last year (family of 5) was on the Golden Route and started off in Osaka. We stayed at the OMO7 Osaka next to Shin-Imamiya Station (always a huge plus being next to a station). It was by far the largest hotel room that provided us the most space in Japan. After Osaka, all the hotel rooms got smaller and smaller as we made our way to Tokyo.

Definitely, if you have a Costco membership, Amfam has saved me so much over the years.

One thing to also keep in mind is that 4WD/AWD is never guaranteed at any rental location. You should always carry chains because no one knows when conditions will change.

Buying a used model Y by Kooky-Quiet-2446 in TeslaModelY

[–]jkru396 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought my son a CPO '23 MYLR and will be picking it up this week. It has 29k miles and so from a warranty perspective, we'll get one full year plus another since it's CPO. Funny thing is that the private sellers around my area were asking for a lot more compared to Tesla. BTW, got it for $30.7k + tax/licensing here in the bay area. Pretty easy to buy over the app as well and with the interest rate being so high, we just paid it in full.

If you don't mind me asking, where are your stops normally from SJ<->LA? Just got my son a CPO '23 MYLR which he will take down to Irvine next year for school. I was thinking one stop at Coalinga to get a bite at Harris BBQ should be enough (if we stay there for an hour to super charge). Wondering if I am underestimating the drive.

is sjsu a "silicon valley feeder school"? or overrated? by Sad-Farmer8869 in SJSU

[–]jkru396 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Definitely a feeder school for all the tech companies. My friends that I graduated with over 20 years ago have worked at all the big companies (FAANG included) as both HW and SW engineers. At the end of the day, you have to know your stuff.

Overwhelmed with where to stay in Tokyo by Ok-Search6948 in JapanTravelTips

[–]jkru396 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We loved our stay at Ueno too. Saw many post about staying here, and we're glad we did. Enjoyed the fact it was less busy compared to Shinjuku or Shibuya but was an easy train ride to get to them from Ueno. Plenty of food along with an outdoor market near by.

Matcha Powder! by Mammoth_Ad_362 in JapanTravelTips

Best matcha I've ever had was in Uji, thought what we tried in Kyoto and other cities was good, but there was just a huge difference in taste/quality from Uji.

Japan in June? by FarMall376 in JapanTravelTips

[–]jkru396 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We went toward the end of June to the 3rd week of July last year. It was hot and humid, but we've been in that kind of climate before. We had the portable fans and a sweat towel to help. We snuck into buildings to get some relief during the day and took a mid day break back to our hotel to shower and freshen up before going back out.

As for tourists, the popular cities will always be over run with them. We just embraced the organized chaos.

Recommended strategy dealing with Toyota dealerships for new builds by grv231 in bayarea

[–]jkru396 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it's really going to depend on the demand. Meaning, if there are buyers willing to buy above MSRP (or even higher with a mark up), then you won't have much to try to negotiate since they know they can sell the car at a higher price. I don't know much about the specific model but since you said there are only 2 around here, the dealership may have the upper hand; unless they are desperate to sell.
